Wash And Go, To Grow And To Dazzle 2020 Challenge

@DVAntDany I have some products if you want to
Buy discounted? If you’re in NJ you can come get them lol. If not I can ship. I’ll check in the am but I think I have the meringue and a few other stylers brand new
I’d love that. Unfortunately, I am all the way in Alabama. So I won’t be waltzing up there to pick up anything anytime soon. I’ll message you.

I’m on day 5 of my KCKT/KCCC wash n go and it’s still looking good. I haven’t used this combo since late 2020 - I think my hair and my technique are in a much better place than they were then. If I knew then what I know now, I may have never switched away from this combo. I need to see how it holds up next week when I have more sweaty workouts planned, but I think this will be my backup to UFD/Jello shot.

Day 2
My hair feels nice!
Ladies, what is a great moisturizing conditioner that provides slip, slick, soft, and manageable hair?
Nothing that has anything to do with strengthening, rebuilding, protect, etc..
My favorite deep conditioner is TGIN Miracle Repairx Deep Hydrating Hair Mask. Another great one is Obia Naturals Babassu Oil Deep Conditioner. It's nice and foamy and protein free.

I’m still doing wash in goes. Most days I use Innersense hydrating hair bath, ag boost with trepadora quinoa, and then ufd and ich. My hair is the softest it’s ever been and with great definition. I think the key is the amount of water and products. Getting that ratio right is important.

I notice that I used to hate the way UFD felt on my hair, like it was hard to spread and caused tangles. But now that my hair is more moisturized and has smoother shafts, it’s much easier to spread.

That’s how I felt about the Mielle custard at first.

Washed my hair today after a week of having it straight. I didn't see anything alarming, so I'm happy.

I shampooed with Suave Clarifying and Lady's First. DC'd with TGIN and styled with Bee Girl Custard. I finally figured out how to get a softer hold! I had to use smaller sections and soak each section with water using my hands. I used a blowdryer to dry my hair all the way. The downside to having a lighter hold is that my hair is pretty frizzy. If it lasts for a few days, I think I'll be satisfied.

I just pre-detangled my hair and twisted it in sections. I didn’t get around to washing my hair, since my body was feeling off and I’m dealing with a migraine. If I don’t wash today, tomorrow will be day 7. I sprayed my hair with a leave-in spray and a light oil spray yesterday and Friday, so my hair wouldn’t just completely dry out. I used a light detangling spray today, so my shampoo won’t have to work hard.

Y'all! My hair is so dry. I know better than to use Bee Custard by itself. I'll be washing again tomorrow

I was just popping in here to say how much I loved my Bee Girl Custard only WnG :look:. I think the results must be somewhat texture dependent because a few fine hair ladies I follow had unsatisfactory results (breakably hard cast and dryness), whereas my coarse hair had regular cast and no dry feeling at all. Do you have fine hair @ckisland ?

I think that my results are okay. I just like super soft hair LOL!
That's interesting, but I don't have fine strands either. Mine are range from coarse to normal. It may be a porosity thing! I remember one of the owners saying that your porosity changes the hold.

I have low to normal porosity. What about you?

I wonder if you can use the Super Sonic conditioner under it? It is a leave-in as well as a rinse-out. I would test it out on the back of my hand to see if it plays well with each other first.
I thought the same thing, but when I tested it in my hands, it was a no-go. But Big Poppa works great underneath! I was just trying it out again to see if there was any hope of it being a solo styler.

I’m enjoying my latest haircut. After my first cut with this stylist I wasn’t sure if I liked the way she cut my hair, but this cut/trim I like.

I’m getting a lot of shrinkage with my KC wash n gos, but my hair still looks good.

this make a me a little nervous about adding trims on blown out hair into the mix, but I think that’s the best way to preserve length while keeping my ends in good shape. And it’s a lot cheaper.

I swear I think Mielle is secretly listening to me. They are releasing an Air Dry Styling Gel and Lotion in the Pomegranate and Honey Line on the 13th.

I feel confident in trying out theirs because none of their other products have ever left my hair coated in white. These might be the ones you all and I can stop looking for a quick midweek styler.

Oooh. I like the idea of products made for air drying. But I have sooooo much UFD and jello shot that o won’t be buying anything new for a long time

They did say it has a lighter hold and will give a fluffier finish. It’s not even meant to last a whole week. So, I’m not sure these products are up your alley. Both the lotion and the gel come in spray bottles. These are the results from their demo.

I also bought the Curl Wow collection by Color Wow when everything was 30%off. I’ve used the pre shampoo, shampoo and conditioner a few times now. They are nice. I just haven’t gotten to the serum or bundling spray yet. I’ll have to try it on a weekend. I have no clue how it will turn out. It too looks like something that I might be able to air dry.

So what's the stance on cowashing now? Cowashing was it back in the day, but now not so much so  . Is anyone doing wash n'gos and cowashing on a regular basis? I use moisturizing shampoos, but I'm worried that I could be stripping my hair of it's natural oils too often. . .maybe. My hair's never dry, but I'm worried about preserving the quality of my hair as it gets longer. I'm at the longest my hair has ever been and I'm not trying to mess anything up :look: .

I was never a fan of cowashing because I couldn’t get a good wash n go afterwards, but my hair is in much better shape now than the last time I tried cowashing. So maybe I should revisit it.
I am also concerned about using too much shampoo because I think it probably takes a long time to see the negative effects.
I always shampoo 2x when I wash my hair AP followed by moisture poo and I’ve started not washing the ends of my hair with the AP in an attempt to be more gentle to them.

I've had good wash n'gos after cowashing, and I only usually shampoo once when I wash. I may do an experiment for a couple of weeks to see how my hair reacts to shampooing every other week and only dcing when I shampoo :scratchchin:

It’s hard to say. I see many professionals with thriving businesses in curly hair and color prescribe cowashing to their clients. So there are just as many progressionals for it as there are against it. My hair nor scalp is dry. So, I haven’t ever seen the benefits you mentioned either.

Much like @GettingKinky, my wash n goes don’t always come out too well after cowashing. There are so many thing to factor with that though. I personally would never cowash with an actual conditioner. I’d have to wash/cowash again my hair the next day. I’d use one with gentle cleaners like The Doux One Love. That would give me a minimal of 2 to 3 days before desperately needing to cleanse my scalp again.

I’m totally on board with the idea of cowashing though. In fact, I’m looking for a product that would make sense with cowashing. I’ve been pushing shampooing my hair once a week and my scalp is not cool with it. I can’t justify the long time it takes my hair to dry if I cowash and then style with a regular gel. All that effort is wasted because I’ll have to wash again in a few days. Then mousse doesn’t want to play right. It won’t leave my hair with just a cowash. On top of that, mousse wngs only last about 3 days.

I’d start back cowashing in a heartbeat if it worked with my life style.

I'm lucky that I don't have a finicky scalp. I don't go more than a week without cleansing my scalp, but I don't get any irritation in between. I haven't used conditioners as cowashes either. But I have 2 very good cowashes by Miss Jessie's and EBW, so I'm good. I haven't tried mousse after a cowash. But like you, mousse doesn't last more than 2 days for me.

I have no idea anymore. All of this product being used for a wash and go would require me to use a shampoo to remove it. It’s one thing if I were to use mousse only. I do believe a person should shampoo their hair at least once a week. I think cowashing is cool midweek.

Yeah! I have stylers that I would only use shampoo to remove (like Bee Girl Custard). But I feel comfortable cowashing when using Coily Custard because it's so light.

Hello :hiya:, happy New Year and I’m so happy to see LHCF still active and alive! Brings back so many memories! :2inlove:

  1. Please tell us about your hair (texture, pattern, porosity, length, etc) Cottony, majority is 4c o shape springs, 4b zigzag in the front, very nape 4a s curls, low/medium (I really don't know anymore to be honest), grows naturally in layers but I cut bangs and shape the back, dyed with henna

What is your current regimen (frequency, techniques, products, etc) Hair wash 1-2 a week, shampoo & clay wash, oil massage before shampoo, detangle before shampoo with a detangling brush, rotating between regular and moisturising shampoos every other week, once a month clarifying shampoo, Olaplex Treatment once a month, wash&gos mainly
    Current staples I use:

Regular Shampoo & Conditioner - Rahua Classic
Moisturising Shampoo & Conditioner - Hydrating Cream Bath
    Clarifying/Chelating Shampoo - Olaplex No. 4c

Scalp oil - diy favourite oils/butters with rosemary essential oils and others.
    Pre-Detangler - African Pride Pre-Shampoo
    Clay - Kaolin & Bentonite
Brushes - Tangle Teezer, Felicia Leatherwood, Denman
Gels as base or leave-in - Kinky Curly Curling Custard, Ecoslay's Jelloshot
Gels for extra hold - Innersense I Create Hold & Volume
  3. What are your length goals from joining this challenge? Staying consistent with length retention, ultimate goal is waste to hip length
  4. What are your styling goals from joining this challenge? Perfecting humid weather styles, using staple products for at least 6 months
  5. Any current struggles or concerns? I can become lazy and impatient very fast. I'm definitely not consistent with Olaplex No. 3. I become bored and will fall into product junkiness to switch staples :look:

I just shampoo 99% of the time and 90% of the time I only lather once. I have some oyin ginger mint cowash I'll use on mini twists. And that's because it's like a 2 for 1 in not having to shampoo and conditioner mini twists.

If your hair and scalp is doing so well until now, I would not change anything and keep on using the moisturising shampoos. Your hair has never been dry again and if it's getting longer and longer, it obviously loves what you do. I've used co-wash cleansers off and on. The ones from As I Am and Boucléme are nice, but I like to see them as a refreshment in between. So something I would use in summertime if I want to wet my hair scalp daily or for very sweaty workouts until the actual hair wash.
