Wash And Go, To Grow And To Dazzle 2020 Challenge

If your hair and scalp is doing so well until now, I would not change anything and keep on using the moisturising shampoos. Your hair has never been dry again and if it's getting longer and longer, it obviously loves what you do. I've used co-wash cleansers off and on. The ones from As I Am and Boucléme are nice, but I like to see them as a refreshment in between. So something I would use in summertime if I want to wet my hair scalp daily or for very sweaty workouts until the actual hair wash.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it
My regimen is good, but I think that it could be great. I have a faster than average growth rate, and I know that I'm not retaining all the length that I could be. I'm greedy for them inches :lachen:! And I want to make those changes now at this length so that I have my regimen down pat when WL comes.

Today was the "let's try new some stuff" wash day! New things I tried:

1. Cowashing (Don't Want No Suds) out of the shower. I wet my hair in the tub, but applied the cowash in sections in front of the mirror.
2. I finger detangled each section first and I used my tangle teaser brush instead of my Felicia Leatherwood brush.
3. After smoothing on Leave-in Condish, I used the prayer hands method to smooth Coily Custard onto each section.

I love how my curls clumped!!! I also didn't lose hair during my styling process when I usually lose tons of hair. Cleansing to styling took about 30 mins!
@GettingKinky I mentioned that I lose a lot of hair on wash day. Today was no exception. The only difference is that I had less breakage this time around, so this is pretty much 5 days worth of shed hair.

Clarified and deep conditioned today, then did a quick WNG to prep for coloring the gray around my perimeter this weekend.

Feel like I haven't posted my mane in a while. The first pic is from me straightening my hair back in November. I was happy to see curly cuts we're still doing me good and I didn't have crazy ends. The second pic is from today. I got a trim and a color retouch.

@oneastrocurlie your hair is beautiful curly and straight. And I love the color.
What is your technique for straightening your hair? I tried to blow out my hair with a comb attachment in November and it was a disaster.

Thank you! I used the Revlon paddle brush to blow dry and then the tymo straightening comb. That was my first time using the comb. I like it but will need to find a way to get my ends a little straighter. It's the best straightening job I've been able to do so far.

What products did you use before you straightened?
Did you use a lot of tension when you were blow drying? I was so paranoid about heat damage that I think I didn’t use enough tension to get good results.

I have that brush, but my hair is so fine, I felt it was pulling on my strands. I would like to purchase a Revair or get another Silverbird by next year for me and my kiddos. I love your color by the way. I had that color before!

What products do you use? I like the DE lavender collection. It gives a lot of protection to prevent the hair from cooking. Fantasia IC heat protectant serum and/or spray is good too! Oh and DE serum, I forgot the name I gotta look at the bottle.

I’m going to try cowashing either this week, or next.

Did you use a lot of tension when you were blow drying? I was so paranoid about heat damage that I think I didn’t use enough tension to get good results.

Shampoo and conditioner was Adwoa Blue Tansy (can't remember if I used the matching leave in. If I did it was probably a tiny bit).

Before using the paddle brush I used this: https://www.target.com/p/ogx-protecting-silk-blowout-quick-drying-thermal-spray-6-fl-oz/-/A-52520844

And then went straight to using the comb straightener.

Tension wise, I don't want to say I used a lot. The paddle brush is designed to do all the work so there's tension because of the brushing but I'm not holding my hair taunt while using if that makes sense.

Also I feel you on the heat damage but I honestly think we take care of our hair so well with frequent washing and conditioning that our strands can handle direct heat here and there and revert back just fine.

Thank you! I also had this color before. Covered it and then went back without realizing it at first. Smh lol.

I use a wide tooth comb on a section right before using the brush in the same section. That seems like make it glide easier.

I hi-key want to try that new tymo blow dryer that comes with a comb attachment (basically a dyson dupe). But I really don't need it. But will probably get it down the line for research purposes lol.

Today was wash day! So it's been 3 days since my last wash.

I noticed that my scalp was a little itchy and my hair wasn't as moisturized as it should have been. So I'm back to shampooing! I'm team my hair acts better when shampooed.

Another thing I did was do my whole wash day in the shower. The result? I lost significantly less hair during my wash and detangling steps. I will be back to washing my hair in the shower from here on out.

I washed with Lady's First, and conditioned with Super Sonic. I smoothed on Big Poppa in 4 sections and topped each with Mousse Def. I'm not thrilled with my results  . Big Poppa doesn't spread that well and needs to be raked in to get the look I like. Since I'm no longer going to be raking to decrease my breakage, I'll be using Coily Custard as my go to styler. I might play around with mousse just to have another option.

On Saturday, I shampooed once with Paul Mitchell One and applied my henna mix. I left this on for about 6hrs, before rinsing well and applying a mix of hydrated fenugreek and conditioner (CR Algae Renew + Sukin Hydrating con because I love a mix). On Sunday, I rinsed and applied Miche custard in four large sections in the shower. Outside of the shower, I used diluted KCCC and diffused for about an hr until dry. Tonight, I dusted some ends.

This is what my curls look like with heavy products for 2023. I want majority of my hair to fully reach my shoulders by the end of the year.

It looks totally uneven because of how I was wearing a towel to protect my shoulders and neck. It gets hot under that dryer. I’m going to start diffusing my ends first and then sit under the dryer with a mini cape on.

I took some pics today (indoors, natural light) and managed to catch some of my straggly heat damaged pieces. Compared to my predominant curl pattern, you can see where I absent-mindedly burned the curls away smh. I've come to terms with it now, but I won't lie; Its annoying that these pieces are the bits that are most exposed when I wear my hair out. Hopefully my MSM and Kiwi combo will give me an improved growth rate, so I can sprout some more curls and fast lol.

Your hair is beautiful @GGsKin. Have you tried K18 to see if could help with your heat damage?
Thank you @GettingKinky yes. I've been using Olaplex for a few years, but I bought the 50ml K18 leave-in and used it for the 6 consecutive times as directed and repurchased when I finished the first bottle. I like it, because while my coils weren't restored (I didn't really expect that to happen), I feel like it gives my hair extra reinforcement, especially with damage and the demarcation between my new growth.

So last Thursday I had my hair dyed so my stylist washed my hair, but she doesn’t do wash n gos. So on Friday I redid my hair. Since she had just washed it, I only used my moisture shampoo and now on day 6 it’s a frizzy mess. I think just moisture poo isn’t enough for me to get a good result. I don’t want to over shampoo my hair, but I also need better results than this.

I've been experimenting with different wash styles (cowashing and conditioning, shampooing and conditioning, shampooing and dcing), and shampoo+dc is still the champ :boxing: . It makes my wash day so much longer, but the level of moisture my hair retains lasts me all week. But dcing gives me a 2+hr wash day.
So my options are:
1. Shampoo+DC+Style=2 hrs once a week
or
2. Cowash+Condition+Style= 30 mins twice a week

I'm picking option 2!!
I'm going to shampoo and dc tomorrow to reset my hair. Then I'm going to cowash and condition for two weeks straight, and I'll reset on week 3. Also my hair doesn't tangle up, so I'll brush through it once a week.
Imma try it out for a month and see how my hair does!
