I'm @ week 15 and I really want to cave now on this one instead of on my 'No Heat Challenge'. I'm itching to wash n' wear while it's warm (not that it's that warm these days) but I've got 9 more weeks ahead of me.

I keep telling myself to stick it all out so that I can see the rewards at end of the 6th month period.

I'm 4 weeks today psot relaxer. I've already noticed some light breakage. What can I do to stop this. My hair gets plenty of protein. Would CO washes help?

Sometimes Co washes help, and keeping the new growth moisturized. I gave myself a Dominican Blow out, and the shedding or breakage stopped then ... until after my next wash. I didn't repeat the DB.

Bumping for updates ...

I just gave myself a touch-up on 27 June. I waited 5 months this time. I used Phytorelaxer Index 2. It was nice, however, I was not overly impressed. I barely had enough to touch-up, because of all the newgrowth from waiting so long.

My sheabutter mixture helped me to keep my newgrowth somewhat tolerable. I was going to try to last all summer without a touch-up, but I changed my mind for a number of reasons:)!

How is everyone else doing?

I am currently 4 months post relaxer, trying to stretch it to 6. Things are going real well. This last stretch should be easy because my hair is all braided up!

I am currently 14 weeks post relaxer.. so far I have doubled the time I would normally get relaxer (7wks). I plan to go 3 more weeks (17wks) and then get a relaxer since school is starting. I will continue getting touchups every 16 weeks. I found that it wasnt hard to get to this point because I had cornrows for 5 1/2 weeks (two different sets).. now the front is braided and the back is in a ponytail (my own hair.. its getting longer.. woot woot!)

I fell off the wagon at 9 weeks on 7/2 when the board was down. But hey I managed to go 3 weeks more than I normally do...it was my b-day to (justifying Falon) I'm going to hold out even longer this time....going till 10/1 (12 Weeks!) or bust!

I'm on week 15 and even though I have just bought products to texturize, I'm leaning towards transitioning now....

i am 9 weeks post right now (i used to relax every 6 weeks). i'm planning on waiting till i get to week 15. this will be my first time stretching that long, so i'll just have to wait it out and see what happens.

I never joined this challenge but, I have kind of been forced to stretch out my relaxer due to expenses

.

Anyway, I'm 12 weeks post relaxer and my hair is actually doing great!!

I'm actually at 17 weeks now, and things are going well. I wash once a week, and keep my hair cornrowed for the entire week. Sometimes I do a braid out, but when I do, so much hair comes out! I feel like the amount that is comming out is entirely too much. Any suggestions?

I still need to learn the secret....
Im only at 7 weeks and my hair is shedding/breaking quite a bit. I planned to go to 12 (and will next time) but Im going home in August to visit relatives and cant look rough. So Ill relax at week 10.

The only time Ive successfully went more than 3 months has been when I wasnt wearing my hair out

I didn't know about this challenge but I'm 6 weeks post now, about to start week 7. I usually relax at week 5 or 6. So I'm struggling a little now as bad as I thought it would be. I realize that I can't comb through to the roots in the middle of my head. I should really only comb it when my hair is under water.

Does anyone have any product recommendations for softening the new growth??

Oh yeah I plan to make at least to 8 weeks this time and try for 10 if I think I can make it at week 8.

I think taking it one week at a time is key.

, bringing my tally to 3" since March.

I'm 18.5 weeks post relaxer now, I decided against getting a relaxer at 17wks, and got braids instead. I will relax at 20.5 weeks. (the 28th)

I normally stretch my relaxers using braids. I'm going to do something different this time around by using braid outs, chiney bump curls and buns. I'm curious to know how the 4a/b ladies put their hair in buns 10+ weeks post relaxer. Do you put your hair in a pony tail in the shower while its wet or do u use another method?

thanx

Hey Nic,
I'm about 10weeks post and too lazy to relax. I don't like wet buns when my hair is at this stage. I washed, and blew dry my hair and pulled it back in a bun like that with some "Let's Jam" I like that much better. I've been wearing the dry bun for two weeks now, so I've washed and blow dried once a week.

Bumping this a couple days early for Updates!

I did my touch-up June 27th I believe it was. I had a lot of newgrowth. I thought I was going to last all summer without touching-up, but that idea flew out the window within a week or so.

It seem like I don't get much newgrowth the first 2 months, and then all of a sudden it starts popping up like weeds. Does this happen to anyone else?

I made it to 10 weeks and relaxed this past friday. I had planned for 12 but I had to resign to the fact my growth rate mixed with the humid weather here is a recipe for breakage and it was! I was getting moderate breakage at the crown and along the area where my normal part in my hair is, so I have these crazy little fly aways where it broke at the line of demarcation.

From now on I plan to relax at 8 weeks, I think the only way I could go longer is if Im wearing a phony pony for the whole week between washes, then there is no manipulation for a week at a time.

Every time I touched my hair it was coming out, whether wet or dry. As soon as I relaxed it stopped. I was doing more harm than good by waiting.

I relaxed my hair on friday after 10 weeks I could not go
12 weeks this time.
I was surprised I got over little over a inch this month.
The best thing I could have done was to start relaxing my
own hair.
My hair has improved 100 percent and not thinned out anymore
because of stylist combing relaxer thru to the ends.

Crystal,

Do you blow dry your roots too? If so, do you use a comb?

Thanks
btw: back in CT?

Yup I blow dry the roots. I blow dry my hair straight. And I kept water out of it for the week so it could wear my bun slicked back. I had to dust my blow dryer off because I don't use heat in my hair but since it's time to relax the wet buns just don't look slick to me.

And I didn't use a comb.. I don't even think I own a comb..LOL I have a little one I use to part. But if you meant a comb attachment on the the dryer.. yes that's what I used.

PS.. I didn't go, I had to fly out of NYC and just wasn't in the mood to deal with the traffic to get to LGA. I went over Georgias and got her opinion. I'll let you know what happens.

I'm only on week 9. I braided my hair 2 weeks ago and plan to keep them on for another 2 weeks. I'll be 11 weeks when they come off. I like to last the full 24 weeks

We shall see

Ok, I need this thread seeing as how I will not be getting a relaxer until about 20 wks. I'm going into my 13th wk now. 12 wks WAS the longest I'd gone before. I'm ok doing buns and single or double braids but wash day is another story. It's not even "washing" that's the problem. It's dealing with it once I'm out of the shower and trying to comb it. Tangles, tangles tangles. I would do a shower bun but I can't figure out how to add my after wash products this way. I thought about just bunning it and letting it dry and then adding moisturizers and such the next day but I thought it might dry too "dry"! If anyone does bun straight in the shower, do you let it completely dry, then add your after wash/cond. products?
