I am still in the challenge at 12 weeks. I have been wearing twistouts constantly. CD Hair milk has helped to keep my hair moisturized as well as Hot 6 oil.
I'm still in the challenge, i'm currently at 6 months and I'm getting braids for 4 months next week. my newgrowth is surprisingly very easy to handle. Check out the newgrowth: http://public.fotki.com/JenniferMD/transitioning_new/
That's a lot of new growth you have there, Jennifer. Will you be relaxing it at some time, or are you transistioning?
I'm only three and half months (14 weeks tomorrow) past my last touch up, but so far, my new growth has been a breeze to handle as well. I'd love to have six months' growth under my belt.

Same here. I don't worry about it, though...right now I like looking at the inch and a half or so of natural hair that I have. I'll relax when/if I get tired doing that. Meanwhile, I just go with the flow...

I'm planning on relaxing in May. Then it will be 10 months of newgrowth. I don't know how or why I started stretching out my relaxer, but I know I don't want to be completely natural.
I didn't post for the challenge but I made a personal goal of 16 weeks. The longest I have gone is 15 weeks and it was pretty bad those last two weeks. Next relaxer will be on April 1.

Jennifer,
Thank you for showing me the pictures of your new growth after using surge for 20 days.
i can not wait for tomorrow morning to run, NOT walk to the store, they open at 10:00 I will be there at 9:59 am. Tomorrow is my con wash, so that will be a extra treat for my hair.

Oh, your hair is looking good!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that there is a huge increase in newgrowth since using surge. I forgot because I can't really see the difference in length due to the shrinkage.
As for myself, I am 3 months and 4 days post relaxer. It's not as hard as I thought it would be plus my little tiny waves(new growth) is starting to grow on me.
The only thing I'm doing differently is my "New CO WASH EXPERIMENT." I apply conditioner to dry hair and leave it in for a while. I rinse it out in the shower, apply another conditioner, leave it in while I shower, and proceed as usual. Wow, this is a keeper for me ... at least during the winter months.
I haven't measured my newgrowth, but there is more. I was doing the No Measuring Challenge/Journal, which I'm not sure is still going on ...anyone know?
I'm starting my 10th week post-retouch. I would like to go 5 months. The CO washes are helping a lot and I've also started saturating my hair with oil(evoo or essential) prior to the CO wash.
I will be 12 wks on Wed. So far so good. I think my hair has been growing slowly thus I haven't had a big problem with the my new growth. I have notice though a little breakage going on but I think it's because of a bad experience with a product (or products) that caused me to shampoo more frequently than normal.
If my hair continues to grow slowly I might need to stretch out my relaxer a few additional months.

I am currently at 8 weeks and very proud of myself. If I hold out for 10 I think that I will be doing very well.

I just don't know. I am currently in braid out but the strange looks I get from other students keeps me from wearing it much. If I can keep a braid out for 2 more weeks I will relax or get braids.
I am starting week 11. It's getting a bit difficult, but I want to get to 13.
That's my record and it also corresponds with the full moon for a touch-up (I don't know if there's anything to that whole lunar cycle for hair care thing, but I figure it's worth a try).
Ballet bun, GREAT TIP about starting off the conditioner wash dry. I'm going to try that today. Coconut milk is another thing that's been helping me manage the new growth. I don't even try the whole thing with the limes, I just keep it in the fridge and once it seperates, I add the cream to my conditioner.
Wow green, I have to try that coconut milk thing. I have pure unrefined cocnut oil and it works great at softening and even straightening new growth. 12 is the longest Ive ever gone and the last 2 weeks were torture. But I admit that I didnt try that had at keeping the new growth under control. This time, I am trying for 12 weeks again but I will wash more often, conditioner wash (armyqt's method), and use my coconut oil on the newgrowth. Wish me luck! My hair has been growing slowly lately so I wanna see some length next touch up!

WOW
6 months!! I didn't even make it to my goal of 12.
Oh well 10+ weeks is as long as I've ever gone. I think I could of gone longer but the surge was causing flakes and when I stopped using it my hair became harder to manage so I caved. Oh well, I'll make 12 weeks my goal again right now I'm about 3 weeks into my relaxer.
Thanks ladies for teaching me I shouldn't relax my hair so much
i just finished week 12 yesterday. 12 weeks was my goal, but i'm TRYING to transition, so i went ahead and did my first Clarifying shampoo followed by my usual wash with CON and deep condtioning with Queen Helene Cholesterol. when i got back from the gym today i parted my hair and sprayed my new growth with Sta Sof Fro (usual dont need to spray again until my next wash), put vaseline on my tips and into a bun it went. as my new growth grows and i see more of how my hair looks, i have some very wacky stuff growing outta my head--i'm hoping to hear of other 4a/b ladies with hair like this--it's definitely 4 type hair but it is growing out in these tight little pen spring size shirley temple things with like 8-10 hairs each clumped together...it looks wierd but unique and cute at the same time--anyone out there dealing with this please let me know what you are using to manage your newgrowth. the problem is even when i comb (i only comb after shampooing) the hairs that are grouped together all stay clumped together so i'm not sure if i'm doing more harm than good--any tips appreciated
Ok. Since I just had a relaxer on 08Jan04, I'm going to enter the challenge and try to make until around April 8th which is a longtime for me since I can usually only wait 7 weeks. We'll see...
