Twist/Braid/Bun for Growth Challenge 10/1/13-12/31/13

I'm about halfway done removing my braids. Hopefully I will finish by tonight. This is my least favorite part of the process.

Back on the wagon. Just put in small to mini twists. Took forever. I need a trim seriously. I have an appointment near the end of the month. I'm planning on keeping this set of twists in until then.

Is it too late to join? I haven't done a hair challenge in like forever

I keep my hair in 2 strand twists anyway cause I workout daily: a swim almost 2 hours or more in the pool on top of a run/bike. I've noticed that I'm retaining length and each time wash and redo the twists they've gotten a tad longer.

I use Garnier Fructis Super Stiff Gel and Jamaican Lavendar black castor oil to twist. I've never left them in longer than a week and half. I'm hoping the twists I have in now will last 2 weeks.

Come on in DigitalRain. It's never too late.

I finally got all of my braids out today. Three days... :ohwell:

My hair is in a wash & go right now because I didn't want to do anything more than slap some gel on my hair after that ordeal. I'll be twisting it up soon.

I just finished getting a braid/twist combo style from my stylist. I also decided to go ahead and get rid of about 1 inch of bad ends. So I won't be seeing any growth at my reveal but this challenge has helped me improve the moisture level in my hair. I am really liking not dealing with my hair daily and just spritzing my hair twice a day.

How long did you keep them in again? I know 3 days is a long time but if I didn't have to do my hair every week, I think I could manage :yep:

faithVA I kept them for 5 weeks. I really could have gone to six if I wanted to. They weren't very tangled or anything, just tedious. If I do them again, the braids will have to be a little bit bigger.

I wore a twist out tonight. Sometimes my hair is a little too defined. When I take out my twists, the sections still just look like mini twists :ohwell: When it is longer I might appreciate it.

I put curling cream on bigger sections and retwisted to wear a twist out tomorrow and Sunday. I will probably wash on Monday and retwist.

I should color my hair this weekend before the cleaning people come on Monday. hmm

I don't like twist outs on my hair at all. Never have. They always look crazy on me. :(

^^That's odd. It seems like your twist outs would be fiyah. Let me see so I can be the judge

Idk, my hair just looks so... wig like. It's like a helmet made of hair. It makes me sad.

Here is my new set of twists.

I twisted while my hair was wet & I used African Pride Shea Butter Miracle Leave In Conditioner. It's the first time I ever tried it. I think I like it for twisting.

Post a picture of your hair at the beginning of the challenge and at the end.

Join the Challenge by Sharing:

1. What is your primary style (twists, braids, bunning, etc.)?

Mini to medium-sized twists styled in different ways.

2. What is your style maintenance regimen?

If u make sure to seal your cuticle, for my hair, that seems to allow me to keep the twists looking fresh. Also, I use my satin wrap, & pillowcases which definitely help! If I wear hats, I usually sew in a satin hair cap as the liner, so I still look cute while protecting my strands.

3. Are you natural, relaxed, transitioning?

Natural

4. What do you hope to achieve from the challenge?

Great question. I want to not have to deal with my hair for a while so protective styling rocks for me.

5. Will you restyle after [Pick One] 2 days or 3 days?

My normal routine is that my hair is restyled after the 4-6 wk period, and it's only fully out for 1 day.

6. Include Starting Pic. (You will not be an official challenger without one).

My old pic from the bsl thread. I planned to trim in the beginning of December, but I think that I will wait till January for my trim since I might flat iron.
