2021 Twist, Braid, Bun Challenge - No Hiding Your Hair

I'm just lurking in here. I had a set back last year and was unable to do twist. So I did wash and goes last year through mid April this year. I've been doing 2 strand twists since mid-April and it is such a relief to having a break to doing my hair. Will stick with twist for a while and just try wash and goes on my weekends I color my hair for now.

I cleansed and conditioned this morning. I will twist it up tomorrow.

I'm sorry to hear about your setback, but glad to hear that you're back at a length where you can do twists again.

Do you think it may be the water or maybe minerals or residue from the pipes? Do you have a chelating shampoo or a shampoo that removes mineral deposits that you can try?
i dont have a chelating shampoo but i may have to invest in it because i do think the water here has something in it. There's like a white residue that we have to clean off the dish drying thing too so i dunno whats going on with the water here but i think its some type of water softener or something

My finger coils held up pretty well. I will try them again when my hair is longer and I may use Kinky Curly instead of UFD. My hair seemed a little dry and frizzy when I took them out. But it wasn't too bad.

I shampooed, conditioned, put in a leave in and then used UFD to put in 2 strand twists. Nothing special. Next time I want to try doing twists with a cream instead to see how that works. And I also want to try a leave-in and mousse.

I tried a wash and go mid-week and it didn't turn out. I spritzed my hair and put in twists and will keep these in until the weekend. I plan to primarily stick with twists with an occasional wash and go to try to get my technique down. If it fails I will just put it back up in twists.

I have been wearing my hair in plain regular old cornrows for the past 2-3 weeks because I can't be bothered to do twists or mini twists. I just lightly mist some water over the braids and apply a moisturize from the Camille Rose brand and that's it. I will re-do the cornrows this weekend one by one to maintain the parts.
I think my new growth is now at shoulder length so my hair is happily growing while I keep my hands out of it. (The full length with the relaxed ends is pass APL.)

I took the cornrows down so that I could give my hair, especially my scalp, a good wash. I had scratched my scalp really bad so it needed a wash to start the healing process. So now I have been braiding my hair at night and when I go out I take those down and put my hair up in buns. Usually two buns on either side of my head.
I know its a kid hairstyle but I like it, and it keeps my hair out of face and off my neck. Not sure what style I will do next. Maybe some braids with extensions. My hair becomes super frizzy really fast because it is so hot and so humid right now. I'm not sure anything without hair added would last for very long.

I've seen some ladies wear the two buns and it looked really good on them. If you have the confidence to wear them, roc them :yep:

I want to join this challenge but I'm scared :nervous2:I've been protective styling for a week, and that's like the longest I've ever lasted:laugh: .

@snoop Can I commit to just a month for now? And the style has to be in for at least 5 days, so washing and restyling every 3-4 days would be against the rules?

You're too cute! No need to be scared.

This is my first time hosting so I'm not sure if the rules are such that you can't join. I would suggest that if you are changing your style every 3 days then there is a little less protection and more styling which may defeat the purpose. :drunk:

Join and take it week by week.

1. What is your primary style (twists, braids, bunning, etc.)?
Buns! But sometimes I'll throw some twists or braids in (I'm actually starting this challenge with mini braids)
2. What is your style maintenance regimen?
(Tentatively )
Shampoo and DC for 1hr every wash day
Turbie twist to dry my hair to damp
Apply leave-in and cream as sealant
Gel
I don't plan to remoisturize my hair in between wash days
3. Are you natural, relaxed, transitioning?
Natural
4. What do you hope to achieve from the challenge?
My hair grows pretty fast, but I also experience breakage all the time. I would love to see if protective styling actually makes a difference.
5. How often will you restyle your hair?
I'm going to try and make style lasts anywhere from 5-7 days
6. Include Starting Pic

Had wash day yesterday and it was pretty great!

Cleanser: MJ Honey Harmless Shampoo
DC: TGIN Repairx Deep Hydrating Hair Mask (1 hr)
Leave-in: Obia Hydrating Spray, Curl Moisture Cream, and Sweet Almond Heavy Cream
Styler: EcoStyler Gel Olive Oil
Style: 2 flat twist with a side part pulled into a low bun (after drying for 10 mins)
Total time: 2hr 30 mins

My hair was so soft when I took my braids out! I was pleasantly surprised by that. I noticed that I had more long hairs coming out when I detangled which freaked me out for a second  . Putting this style in was so easy!! So I'm happy :)

Thanks for joining the challenge! Your twists are beautiful!!!

I actually started getting compliments on it. I still like so much that I'm going to keep doing the style even when I'm done putting these twists in.
Ugh. I have to get a mirror to do the double mirror because I cannot part the back of my head correctly. I tried using the bathroom mirror and my the photo app on my phone. Fail. lol

Feels good to be back in twists. I was shocked by how much my hair has grown over the year. Glad I didn't cut off the relaxed ends just yet but by the end of the year it will be time to bid them adieu.

Now to figure out what to do with my baby hairs. I didn't try to add them to the twists because all they do is slip out. Maybe try to slick them down? I don't know, I've actually never done that to my hair before. I think it looks cute on other women but not sure what it would look like on me
