Those who have suffered from protein overload:
I have a theory that I would like to test.
Please take the poll. I think the results will be interesting.
When you did a protein deep conditioning did you...

The one time I've suffered from a protein overload was when I used Aphogee 2 step. This was at the beginning of my journey, and my hair was really overprocessed, so I know I needed the protein. I followed the directions to the letter... I just didn't have a really good moisturizing DC in my stash yet ( I used Elasta QP DPR) and that wasn't moisturizing enough for my hair after such a strong protein. I had quite a bit of breakage for a few weeks until it was corrected. I haven't attempted that one again, I now prefer to give my hair constant smaller doses of protein.

I had a slight protein overload b/c I left it in my hair longer then the recommended time (i got distracted) after rinsing it out my hair was hard as a brick. I dc'ed w/ a moisturizing conditioner and I thought it was better until the next day it was still hard. I used the aohc and sealed w/ jojoba oil along w/ wave nouveau and co-washing w/ suave humanctant(sp) to soften my hair up. It took about two weeks for it to get back to normal.

I got it from using aphogee 2 min for every deep conditioning session when i first started caring for my hair a couple months ago. I didn't know what i was doing! :/

my answer isn't up there. i get overload just using protein period if i dont need it.
i always condition with it for the recommended time and use moisture afterwards, but if i don't need it, i'll get overload no matter what

The first couple of times it was because I was completely ignorant of protein, moisture, etc. I just thought I was doing a good thing by DCing twice a week. I used several different conditioners and they all left me with hard tangly hair. I look back now and realized I was just using too much protein.

The last time it happened its because I started getting my DCs at a salon and I didn't question what they were using. Turned out to be too much protein.

I left it in for the time recommended.

I just think my hair cares not for protein. I just avoid it. I have given up on the idea of balancing anything.

The last time I remember suffering from protein overload was with Lustrasilk Placenta and Jojoba Oil Cholesterol. I left it in for like....30 minutes? I can't remember if I used heat or not, but when rinsed so much hair came out.

That's why I'm done with protein. I'm just gonna stick with oils if I feel my hair needs it. I think oils are more beneficial to the hair than proteins.

I had overload from using a protein when i didn't need it (didn't know how to balance) and from lack of follow up moisture. Now whenever I need protein i spike a moisturizing DC with Aphogee 2min or carrot oil.

carrot has protein in it? didn't know, cause when i was natural my hair LOVED itself some carrot. it would get so soft! that's weird considering even my relaxed hair hates protein.
