The 2012 Wedding Thread

Congrats to everyone! I'm claiming that I'll be engaged on New Years Day 2012:cupidarrow:

I want to go to a sample sale!

I'll need some sort of shawl though. I want it to be a very traditional church wedding with a lavish reception after.

I love the dress down to the knee....I prefer fewer layers at the bottom.

That dress is gorgeous! See. That's why I had to stop looking. loooove it.

What about instead of a shawl some type of shrug or capelet (just another thought on the subject as the shawl will keep slipping down). You could keep it on or take it off for the reception.:

well that's just me (but maybe I'm living vicariously through you. It'll be too hot for a shrug/capelet) for my wedding
:yep:

You might as well imagine the whole look while you're at it to make it come true!

Congrats bimbabe! I see you're working a Grecian style. What are you going to do with your hair? Any ideas?

Eek! I had a nice post and it got deleted...
At the bolded: I know exactly how you feel. My sis loves to tell me about her accomplishments and new ventures + my congratulations but when I told her about my engagement she congratulated me through gritted teeth (and I actually wished she had not said anything at all...) and hasn't mentioned it once to me ever. She has not even asked to see the ring although I have caught her STARING at it at multiple occasions. Then I heard from my mother that she was ready to be my MoH and spend her money on my wedding. We are not close like that and there is a reason why we postponed the wedding date: we are spending our own money so we could control it! She's a control freak and would turn it into the dream wedding she never had. :nono:
The people who really love you or hate you reveal themselves during the best and worst moments of your life. Weddings are one of these moments and I totally agree with you when you say that you will not deal with b.s.

I love birdcage veils, too! I'm hesitating between the latter and cathedral veils..yeah, I go from one extreme to the other, because I don't like what's in the middle.
I wanted to have an updo but my edges have failed me and although I've been babying them I don't think they will be ready for the wedding. The rest of my hair (locs) is shoulder length and I should be at APL or below by next year so I have other options. I originally wanted something like that:

Instead, I may have to settle for curls or a twist out like this:

Forgot to ask you MrsS what are you doing for your edges? Do you wear a lot of head bands, etc? Any topicals? Tried castor oil or any other treatments?

bimbabe Congrats! I love that dress!
luckiestdestiny I'm working on those edges with Castor oil and an oil mix my mom gave me. I just realized that I messed them up by wearing winter hats and not protecting my scalp. This caused rubbing, itchiness, and my silly self scratching until the hair fell out.

I understand. I had to work on my edges for a while because of head bands. I see all the ladies on lhcf wearing them and I just can't...unless they're all silk and really low tension...even then I can't wear them on a daily basis or else my edges start breaking. Perhaps it's because I have thin strands of hair (fine), though I have tons (density). So I have to treat them extra careful.

Hope the castor mix is working:yep:. I used growth specifics on that section, and sometimes castor oil or emu (or a mixture of all of them) to help it get back to normal, and just calmed down with head band (though they're cute). I like that it's whipped like a balm so it doesn't drip

I hope it's growint in nicely.

These are such a great idea! Debating on getting a dress with sleeves.

I keep on having wedding nightmares (wrong color, cake, dress, etc; ) and somehow I was reminded of this thread.

I am still fixated on doing the gold/champagne theme, but I don't know if I should add a neutral like brown or something. Here are a couple of ideas below.

Here is my favorite dress from David's Bridal. Everyone knows that David's Bridal dresses can be a little boring and unoriginal, but I am in love with this one. Plus, it's just under $1000!

I like the third one. It fits in with the princess theme more, but runner up is the second one for me.:yep:

Thanks luckiestdestiny. I really like the centerpiece for the third one, but I don't like the chairs.

Any constructive thoughts or criticisms? Should I go with a different color scheme? I really don't like brown, so I'm hoping that's not an option. Comments are freely welcome.

I am a March 2012 bride! I am so excited and I can't wait to be Mrs. Him.

I have not decided on a dress yet...but I am not actively looking either. We plan to secure our venue this week. MY plan is to start dress shopping soon. I spent WAY more than I intended on his ring...so yea. I am trying to pay that off before I been payments on my dress.

I am SO excited...but my gosh...it has been overwhelming!

I'm planning a New Year's Eve 2011 wedding! I'm thinking about these centerpieces, rather than traditional floral arrangements. Do you think I should stick to all ostrich feathers or mix n' match with flowers like the pic below. All thoughts/opinions are welcomed!

Missed this one lilpooky. I agree with you. THat was the one thing throwing me off in the pic. BuT it's easy to change the chairs with chair covers....

not sure what help I could offer in color scheme as I'm not sure your fav colors, etc.

I'm really feeling this...I love it when the couple throw their own "personality" into the mix. I like the idea of mixing them (flowers with feathers).

Or maybe like in the last pic where it's just feathers and goblets (for the white and red) but perhaps decorations around the room could incorporate the flowers, like on the bride and groom's table (feathers and flowers to distinguish it from the others whereas the others will just be feathers...and then you can have the feathers and flowers around the cake cutting area as decorations, and throw in roses other places, like at the door in centerpieces, etc. Just another thought. Either way I think the whole ideas very sophisticated, fun, and festive while at the same time luxurious.

And the red and white is very festive for the time of year:yep:

Ooh, so pretty! I really like the idea of white ostrich feathers and the red flowers. I'm thinking you can alternate with the tables. Have one section of tables w/ the white feathers, the next section red flowers, etc.

^^^LilPooky & Luckiest, I think I'll alternate between the flowers and the feathers to break up the room up. Thanks for the suggestions!!

Oh yeah...I'm subscribing! My projected wedding date is in Sept. 2012 in Las Vegas. We currently live in Atlanta but I am having THE hardest time finding any venue we (I) like in ATL. If anyone has any suggestions on a unique, young, urban location in Georgia that won't cost us an arm and a leg then I'm all ears

Besides that..congrats to all the other Soon to be Mrs. :dance7:

I'll apologize upfront if this question is too personal....but I'll ask anyway...

What is the average budget everyone plans on spending for their wedding? I get overwhelmed everytime I think about the cost! :perplexed

Ceremony & Reception breakdown (I'm planning for aprrox. 125 ppl):

Ceremony Package: (venue, chairs, aisle runner, arch, blah, blah): $1600
Reception -
Food: $58 - $75/per plate
Open Bar: $20 per person (1 hr), $25 per person (2 hrs), $30 per person (3 hrs)
Hand Passes Hors d'Oeuvres: $325-$375 (per 100 Pieces)

Plus "All prices subject to a taxable 24% Service Charge" !!!!!
:blush::blush::blush:

We haven't even got to a dress, photography, invitations, DJ, decor, etc.

Please give it to me straight and respond with "honey, this is what we're all paying (if not more)...Get over it!!!!" or "Oh no, that's a bit much, you should shop around"

I realize geographical location plays a part but Is everyone is in this sort of price range? It's very hard for me to wrap my mind around the $$$$.

My parents are going to help but I don't expect them to pay for everything. I'm budgeting for a 50/50 split. I don't want to go into a large amount of debt to pay for this. :ohwell::ohwell::ohwell: but I can't stand the thought of having a "cheap" wedding!

I guess my real question is how are you guys finding ways to "cut back" but still carry out a WONDERFUL, GLAMOROUS, ROMATIC AFFAIR??????

HELP!!!!

Hey Mane Event,
will be able to answer in a couple months after i know the exact costs of everything as I keep changing stuff. :drunk:

Your prices dont' seem high especially for the U.S. Destination weddings could go much lower.

I understand your concern though about having a glamourous wedding. In my case I just don't like to pay more when I could pay less. U.S fireworks are $10,000 whereas destination in the islands and mexico it runs $1,000-$2000 with the exception of Jamaica where the price is close to U.S (because they have a monopoly on it so the prices can stay high). So why would i pay more when I could pay less and still get the same effect? I'm all about saving money but I won't know how much I'll save until I finish. Which is why I'm driving everyone crazy because I like to check around and compare prices. I don't care how much I have, I'll always be this way. I will say I do want quality though, just at a cheaper price. But quality is first and foremost.

What's the place like with these prices? Or are you just quoting prices in general?

At the bolded, this makes me feel better. I told his mother about the dinner/drink prices and she was completely shocked :blush::blush:

My mom was a little taken back, as well...maybe it's a generational thing...
I always hear about ladies getting that feeling when they find the right dress. I got this "feeling" when I saw the property! I don't want these two crazy ladies to talk me out of this venue, if I'm in the "average" price range :look:

Honey this is cheap for such a beautiful venue!! In Massachusetts you would pay $100+ per pp.:nono:

Congrats to all the future Mrs!!!

I'm happy to announce that we have a photographer. We met her two days ago and she is so sweet! The price for her work is 40% to 50% less cheaper than average because she's only been in the industry for 3 years, and she takes beautiful pics. I loved the fact that I saw pics of a black couple she took! Will post the link when I get home.

Hello this place is gorgeous! Uhm...you should just break out that checkbook unless it's too expensive for you.

Congratulations to you all. I love reading about and helping to plan weddings. I got married a couple of years ago down in Miami. We were going to get married at a big hotel and pay 200.00/person until I found this place. It's all inclusive, so the planning was a breeze. The flowers were gorgeous and the
photographer was great. We had butler passed hors deuvres and 4 hour top shelf open bar. Their website is WWW.bestmiamiweddings.com. They have different venues and packages to choose from and everyone thought we paid waaaaay more than we did. I'm not sure if any of you are in Miami, but if so I hope this helps.
