Sweet Jesus! My hair....

Re: Ok, here are my after pics.

I guess you really can't tell from the pics but the ends are so dry and feel very wirey. Everytime I put a comb through it a big ball of hair came out.

Wow, those pics are too big. I'll try to create a web page for them. Be right back.

Re: Ok, here are my after pics.

I see what you're talking about... I wonder if it's an internal problem? I think you may be too young to be stressed or maybe it's just growing through it's natural shedding phase? but I do see why you're concernd.... Have you gone back to your original routine?

And about your pics... If you open your editor and to to resize and enter about 400 for width and 350 for length it would be a lot easeir to view them. They're kind of big... or you could reset your format on your digital camera and go for a smaller byte size

Re: Ok, here are my after pics.

It looks dry, but not severely damaged and in need of a cut. Just my opinion. Deep condition and find a good, creamy daily moisturizer or go back to what you were using before. Wait a month and then re-think the whole haircut thing.

Re: Ok, here are my after pics.

Sorry to see that your hair has been suffering. If it makes you feel better even though your hair is damaged it still looks pretty healthy and thick. Your hair length is my goal. I hope you have better luck in the future.

Re: Ok, here are my after pics.

Okay silly me, they are right above my post. I guess MissJ did it when I was typing it

Re: Ok, here are my after pics.

MissJ,

Just saw your pics. Looks like shedding from here, but even if your hair is breaking, I just wanted to tell you that you're still way ahead of the game.

Go back to what you used to do before you started having problems. You should really be fine.

Re: Ok, here are my after pics.

Miss J, do you use a no-lye relaxer? If so, you may want to consider a "corrective relaxer" if a month or two of deep conditioning and moisturizing doesn't do the trick. A professional (please, please, PLEASE don't try this at home!) will comb a lye relaxer through to the ends. I had this done in 1995 when a new stylist refused to apply my beloved Hawaiian Silky No-Lye to my crispy little strands.

Re: Ok, here are my after pics.

I agree with Sassygirl...there is some dryness, but no severe damage.

Make sure you use a moisturizing conditioner often, and stay away from products with protein listed as the first few ingredients.

Re: Ok, here are my after pics.

Miss J- Im not going to sugar-coat you, I'll be honest.

You do have a nice lenghth. But to be honest, whats the point, if its not healthy. Your hair doesn't seem to be shedding. It seems to be falling out, abnormally. Too much hair manipulation may be the cause. I have to go back in this post and see if you listed your regimen.

Re: Ok, here are my after pics.

Ok, thanks everyone for the help and suggestions. I'll try to incorporate them into my regimine.

I was like responding while reading, so this was my old routine:

Wash once a week with VO5, but I stopped because it has SLS.
Condition with LeKair condition, which I still do.
Then I'd untangle and comb my hair with a pick.
Let air dry loose.
Then I'd grease my scalp.
And I'd put it in a ponytail and roll the end.
I'd grease my scalp every 3 days.

Also, I'd like to thank everyone for their kind words.

Your regime sounds a lot like the one i'm doing right now (except for the shampoo part).. complete with the lekair, infusium and grease every week. just go back to what works for you, I did.
I dont devalue any of the info on this board but this just goes back to the principle that what works for one (or even the majority of women on the board at times) many not work for YOU. I've learned this the hard way as well.
Miss J your hair was and still is very pretty, you just need a good trim maybe 1-2inches the most, and to go back to your regilar routine. I'm sure yout hair will flourish

Ok, I just put it on my own webpage, pretty primitive, but I just did it in these few minutes.

My After Pics

[/ QUOTE ]

That 2 me looks like more like breakage than shedding. I experience this when my hair is dried out from using too much protein, when i shampoo my hair less than once a week, or when there's too much product / "gunk build-up" in my hair. A deep conditioning treatment, some jojoba oil and air drying the hair in a bun usually helps remoisturise the hair.
Good luck girl!

MissJ-

I am a little late to this thread. You are really cute. Your hair is a nice lenght. I think you just really need a good trim judging from the after pictures. I think you need to lay off the S-curl activator. I have had problems with the activator. It makes my hair too soft. Someone on a previous board says it may rot your hair. I only spray it lightly on my new growth after a deep conditioning. My hair is a lot stronger now that I don't use it that much. Someone else on this thread said you need to take the information with a grain of salt. I don't rush out and buy every product that is mentioned here. I try to use products for several washes instead of switching products. I find it easier to rule out products by using them for several washes. Are you also using a clarifying shampoo? I think it is good to use every few weeks to clean out the buildup in our hair.

Hair looks great it just needs a little trim. Like everybody else is saying use what works for you. I am doing just that. I am going back to glovers as soon as I find some.

Well, it's been fine since I washed it on Saturday. I even used the Infusium 23 on it. I haven't been wearing the protective styles this week. It never gets dry like that anyway. Maybe that's the problem. I don't know. I am planning on using a clarifying shampoo this week.

Re: Sweet Jesus! My hair....

lwilliams1922, do you mean the Fantasia Leave-In Moisturizer Hair and Scalp Treatment? I have the Extra Dry Hair Formula Enriched with Aloe Complex.

Well, I don't have an after picture. I've been using the protective styles for like a month, and I do just like a few of the ladies said. Wash, put in leave-in, let partially dry in ponytail, and then put up in a bun to leave moisturized. Well, everytime I do this my hair gets so wierd and dry and is already broken when I start to comb it. Gosh, I thought this worked that's why I used it. Maybe I should just wear my hair like I always did and not in protective styles. I reached bra strap length without that. Now, I'm gonna have to cut it. I thought that I would reach mid back like some of the other ladies by doing this.

I used the S-Curl a few times, and it did nothing for my hair, so I went back to the grease. For the past month, I haven't greased my scalp, and I've noticed that not only is my hair coming out, but it's coming out from the root because it has the little bulbs on the ends. Oh brother, I don't know what to do.

That could take in a lot of things, I mean Wash with what?, Condition with what? What kind of perm, hair type, etc a whole lot of thngs come into play. The picture is not that clear but it looks as if your hair was tangled in the before pict and not really healthy.

You should really figure out your regimine and from their, see what works and what needs to be changed.

I'm late posting here, so how are things been since this thread in june???

Wow, you resurrected this thread?

My hair was not tangled in the before picture. It was curled.

Also, I have posted a couple of my after/after pictures. I'll find them on my computer when I get home. I'm in the library at the moment. I should be getting a touch up this week, so I'll probably post some more pics afterwards.

Ok, these are the pics from my last touch up in June. My mom cut the damaged part, so I'm no longer bra strap length. These are just pics of my air dried hair. I have others after I combed it, but I haven't uploaded them yet.

wow Ms MJ....your hair is the BOMB!!! Watcha worried 'bout gurl?? Looks like brastrap to me...unless your bra is near your butt!!! (Just joking)

Thanks, but I was wearing a tank top, not a bra. I think it's getting closer to that length now, though. I'll see when I get my touch-up this week.

MissJ, Maybe it was the s-curl. I think one of the others ladies mentioned it also. I used s-curl for like a week and my hair although was soft when dried, I noticed I started getting hair breakage. I figured it was the s-curl because that was the only new product I added to my regime. S-curl works for some but not for all.
