So when do YOU consider hair long?

bald to shoulder: short (even when I had shoulder length hair before finding hair boards, I considered it short)
past shoulder to past apl length: medium
bsl to waist length: long
past waist length: super long

I always wondered for people who consider shoulder length long, what they think short and medium length hair are? Also, what are bsl and beyond?

on another black woman: healthy APL.

now on me: I won't feel like I can say "i have long hair" until i'm MBL. call me paranoid but i've seen how folks have gotten shut down here (usually folks are slick) or youtube for prematurely claiming long-hair. with healthy MBL my hair is irrefutably long.

Full, healthy hair past shoulder-length is long to me. I guess I'm a "typical African-American." I've been on this site for years and it hasn't changed my perception.

i agree. Anyone with hair past shoulder length is long to me. always been ..even after being on this board for years. i remeber when i was growing my pixie cut out, it took blood sweat tears and forver to finally reach SL, it was long again to me... and when i reached i was so happy i didn't care if i stayed that length forever lol.

For me APL, and for some others too depending on their height, size of their head and physique, but for most other women BSL is long. Even Caucasian and Asian women. I saw an Asian woman today who had BSL hair and it looked really long. I'm thinking it also depends on the thickness, density, and things like that.

When I was a teenager, I had my feelings hurt by a long-haired black lady who described my hair as short. I was sad, because I had been taking care of my hair to grow it to almost full APL. I could understand medium but short...Anyway, I think full APL looks long on anyone.

Nope she was trippin' :lol: I've heard tons of non AA girls say 'OMG! I'd DIE if my hair was shorter than---blah blah blah--length!' and usually it was like apl they mentioned, which my hair was. :ohwell:

At first I kinda took it but after awhile I was like 'ur mama. i look fly no matter what length my hair is. Guess some of us don't have that problem.' :lachen:

i know, mean, but seriously some girls need to chill out! :grin:

Probably BSB. My hair grows to SL and APL without TOO much heartache, so that's always been normal to me. My mom's hair is APL now and that's the shortest I've seen it in years. Her hair has always been BSB or longer, and I've always thought her hair was long, so I guess that's what my frame of reference is :yep:.

On other people, BSL seems pretty long, but my hair is APL in the front, BSL in the back, and I don't think it's long.

Maybe at WL I'll feel like I have long hair, but I certainly don't now.

I have such a severe case of hairnorexia.:perplexed For me, MBL or longer. Now on the other hand, I can look at someone else who is APL or BSL, and think, wow she has nice long hair. Go figure.:ohwell:

I didn't read all the responses but did someone already mention thickness?

I think BSL and beyond is long to me....UNLESS you have really thick hair. Cause then you get more leeway.

E.g., - Thick APL hair looks a lot more impressive then thin BSL hair.

Because I've transitioned back to natural...looking at my old APL texlax pics, I can already tell that when I reach that length again next summer it's gonna feel a lot more substantial.... just cause my hair will be bigger.

As women of color our hair doesn't just grow down, it also grows out.

Think of Chaka Khan...even when she was only just past shoulder length folks used to be like "dang thats a lotta hair!" :spinning:

APL = medium/long (If the longest layer is APL, then it's "getting long" but not quite there. If the shortest layer is APL, then more likely than not, it's long.)

BSL = long

WL = :drool:

For me its BSL.....hopefully I will get there within the next 2 years considering that I am not at APL yet. I was told that my current length is CBL.

Cause I can't say "THANKS" enough!! Get out of my head Ms_CoCo37

...And, honestly, even though I am MBL now--I still don't think that my hair is long...Could be because family will look at my hair and say--"it was so much longer when you were younger"--so, I truly think that I will have to get back to HL before I consider my hair long...

When my hair is as long as my clip ins which are 16 inches. That's full mbl on me. If most of my hair was at this level it would look long to me.

Janet', EXACTLY! Those are my mom's words!!! Her hair was WL, my grandmothers was TL, and I was WL. Maybe that's why I don't consider my hair long at BSL or MBL.:ohwell:

At least I know I'm not alone in my insanity.:grin:

/\/\ Agree,BSL to MBL is long to me, APL is longish, WL or HL is too long (for me). Yesterday I saw an asian woman with thick WL hair and although it was beautiful it made me realize that my goal is truly MBL, not WL.

I also agree that when the hair is thicker or in a blunt cut at BSL or MBL just looks amazing to me.

Full APL was long to me, now I consider BSL long...but my ultimate length is full WL. I would love to see this length coming from my scalp that I grew and maybe cut back to full MBL.
