So when do YOU consider hair long?

I consider Full BSL+ long. My hair is currently APL and I do consider this medium length, but once I reach BSL I will know my hair is long.

Ankle length.

j/k

I think APL is long. But maybe some people have short necks or no necks so APL on one person might be a bob on another? And don't let that APL length hair be healthy and thick! You will get weave checked IRL.

I consider APL hair and beyond long. Well in real life anyway. Around these parts you gotta look like Cousin It to have long hair.

In real life, I would say full APL is considered long hair. On this board, WL is considered long hair. (IMO)

Bsl and longer. Apl is medium length to me. And sl is short.

My hair didn't feel long until it got a little past my waist.

BSL for us.
But I must admit, my idea of long for other races is not BSL, midback length for "others". I've never actually thought of it until this thread, I guess it's based on what I am used to seeing. But I have a white coworker whose hair is about BSL and I don't think of her hair as being LONG whereas when I see a black chick with BSL length hair I think of her as having long hair. Just my perception.

Hmmm. I disagree. I used to not consider BSL long on white girls/women, maybe because it was more common but they ( or women of other nationalities ) actually do. It may not be as rare, but if the hair hangs down a woman's back generally it is considered " long"

In real life APL or longer is long to me...full APL (at least at the bottom layer, not a few strands).

For thisd board, I no longer focus on length so much as I do the health. 1) Not everyone wants long hair, 2) Not everyone rocks straight styles, and 3) The majority of the pictures (not all) I run across are some crazy length... SO I now look at health.

For *ME* personally, with this new install, I am coming to realize that BSL on my body is pretty darn long. I still haven't made a decision on that just yet though.

For me personally i felt my hair was long when i could move and shake it and would still fall past my shoulders. LOL That was about full apl for me. I currently feel my hair is long and im not even bsl

On others, BSL and longer generally. I say generally because I've seen a few people at MBL and their hair doesn't look particularly long to me.

On myself, probably when it's TBL. My hair anorexia is fierce.

Regardless of race. MBL or longer. I think most AA people say APL because we don't see a lot of longer hair amongst us IRL. But *maybe* to a woman from India long is waist or longer (not saying this thought is true but demonstrating differences in culture and perception).

I did read a mag some years ago that stated that should length was medium length and anything longer than that you start getting into longer lengths. (This was a white magazine.)

On me personally, I am greedy! I am long when *I* am waist length. I am getting there probably this Jan-Mar. *grins*

Long hair starts at MBL for me. SL is short. APL- BSL medium. MBL - is the start of long hair...

I think you hit on something. Height could be a factor. On me, APL is medium. But to cover my back, I would need longer. On a shorter person APL may be just fine.

I suffer from hair anorexia BAD, so I consider APL long on other people (especially if they belong to the secret hair society that is LHCF ). However, on myself I don't think I would consider my hair long until I reach BSL.

I'm full APL and I still feel bald headed. I think my perception is warped though because when I seen APL hair on other people I drool.

In my family, my hair is considered long because no one that is full AA has hair touching their shoulders except my sister, who has always had longish hair. And I think they're all insane. My hair is short (SL/CBL). But to me, I won't consider my hair long until I'm at least full BSL, maybe even MBL. But the more I think abt it, the more I start to feel that you're not really doing anything until you're full waist length.

I do find myself having different standards for different races, but in general MBL or WL is always long no matter what race u are.
I consider APL and BSL long for a black woman because usually the women i see day to day have either chewed up NL/SL hair or wear weaves.
Anyone with healthy shiny REAL hair is impressive.

Full APL is long when I see it on others. I'm at BSL, but I don't think I'll feel like my hair is long until MBL/WL.

Depends upon how thick it is, too. 7 strands at APL does not make your hair long (and isn't actually APL), IMO.

disclaimer:
*This is just my opinion. I'm not hating, or delusional, nor in a hair-growing competition with other people*

Full shoulder length is long hair. When ever I see healthy full shoulder length hair, I drool.

SL to BSL kinda melts together as long hair.

Waist length is super long hair. That is massive, more like an alternate culture long.

I also think you have to take your statement turn it around and see if you agree.

If you think BSL or longer is long that means you consider anything shorter than BSL as short hair. That makes no sense to me, IMO.

Actually, I simply go by the general consensus for most people, according to mainstream magazines:

TWA/H to NL = Short hair
CBL to APL = Medium length hair
BSB (below shoulderblade) and beyond = long

Before LHCF, SL was long. Now I agree with the consensus that long starts with BSL. APL is probably more like the long side of medium to me.
