Girlfriend you know you got some nerve to be approaching waistlength with those curl/waves. Chalk it up to ignorant crab mentality, mine is only shoulder length and I've had frenemies do that. I was to naive to no what they were doing at the time (checking for tracks). Anyway rock that healthy hair!
 
I think it's the thickness that made them doubt you, on top of the length.

Not to excuse their behaviour, of course. That was totally unnecessary. :rolleyes: But your hair is gorgeous OP - I love the pics. You looked too cute! :yep:

Girl, your hair is gorgeous! It is thick and healthy and will draw stares and comments. Generally ignore ignorant, doubting people but if you can put them in their place, do! I really don't think I would have been as accommodating especially in the second situation but you handled it with poise so good for you!
 
When I saw your pic I was thinking haters are gonna hate!:grin: If these type of women are the type that think you need a relaxer to have long hair or the ones that think only mixed girls have long hair,they are going to think that.:rolleyes: These type of chicks are not worth the time to even acknowledge! The women were being disrespectful on both occasions. The friend had no right to put their hands in your hair. But, to answer your question: the reason people are so quick to second guess whether or not a black female's hair is really hers is because A LOT of black women will blatantly lie about a weave, going to all out extremes about it. Some will make very shifty comments if you ask them about their style regimen. Some will straight up avoid the question (although I would never outright ask). Some will pretend to the ends of the earth or get offended that you ask, although their edges are chewed to death. Quite frankly, it is pathetic because if its obvious that it isn't your hair, why lie? Everyone is wearing them nowadays, so....:rolleyes:

I would never go as far as to touch someone's hair and do a feel test, but I can see why some women would want to take it to that level. It is childish because they are obviously looking to take you down a notch. But, I guess liars make them want to go to that extreme.:lachen::lachen::lachen:

They are just mad cause your real hair looks better than they Remy...lol

Oh yea, to answer the question....sometimes when people are being that ignorant I tell them I've got fusions....or I say "girl this that ten dollar hair.. 1b" .....lol... whatever. let them think what they want. they won't believe me anyway so I like to play devil's advocate.

You are so pretty. Walk on with your head high as you handled yourself beautifully. I'm afraid the ghetto side of me would have come out in that circumstance. :)

But you know, prior to this site, I have never known AA women with such long and healthy hair. I hardly ever see an AA woman walking down the street with the hair I see on this site. Generally if hair is down your back, it's fake. I think it is just a stereotype that unless you are "mixed", you are supposed to have short hair. It's a shame but true.

Gurl, you, your hair and your outfit are "carrying on bad" (= off da chain) like we say here in the Bahamas. I understand you getting upset with the scalp rub cause I pull away when my Mom touch my hair (my hair is a joke to hers) so you can imagine strangers!!! I am rarely out of a bun so I haven't had any violations in years.

I would just chalk it up to "ignorance". Ignorance because they may have been truly uneducated and may have never seen a black woman with long hair down her back that is NOT a weave. Not that they have seen you and still don't want to believe it can happen, then I call that "stupid". (when you know and just act like you don't know)

Now if you were around a group of women that hung out on LHCF, it wouldn't be far fetched to believe that it could be your hair and it could be so long and that's simply because we are educated that we can grow our hair to great lengths.

As far as the caressing your scalp? Um, that would be a no-no. I had a co-worker of my mom's to once "stroke" my hair and it didn't dawn on me until later that she was trying to see if it was real, (and my mom had to tell me what she was up to) but I have to say that if she was so blatant as to massage my scalp, she probably would have pulled back a nub!

Nevertheless, your hair is absolutely beautiful and sad to say, this won't be the last time you will come across some non-believers.

I feel you: i actually decided to wear a curly wig to my best-friends party and since I can wear my hair curly w/o a wig, my friends never question if thats my real hair but someone at the bar pulled my hair and before I could turn around: i heard: "it aint". Lol. Ooo they lucky i was tipsy.
