I just ordered a bunch of samples from Chargin Valley...I can't wait to try them!

They also have lotion bars which I am curious about

i used to use a Lush bar (back when i was at Uni) but i cant remember the name;-(

............... off to Lush's site for abit of a shop lol.......

I have a couple Swastik Shikakai Bars that I bought for 99 cents at the Indian store. They do leave my hair squeaky clean feeling, but I haven't really oiled well before. I'll try again tonight :yep:

They last a really long time.

i still have a bunch of chagrin valley shampoo bars that i havent used. actually this weekend i was planning on trying the carrot milk and honey bar. i guess i will have to pre poo with conditioner and oils to make sure it doesnt strip my hair.

no need to pre poo... i haven't used carrot milk and honey but the other bars i used did not strip my hair. I felt like I could skip putting conditioner on my hair, it felt so nice! That's just my opinion...

The Anita Grant Bassou bar is absolutely gorgeous. It lathers up immediately on touching the hair, and it feels so moisturised.

I need to order some more, but it's so hard to go on her website and not order other things! :ohwell:

I don't think there is a need to pre-poo with these, but I do have to use ACV as a rinse afterwards.
I like Chagrin Valley a lot, I think it will stay. The bars are cheap and last a while (at least for me)

favs
Olive Babassu
Babassu and Marsh Mallow
Mud and Clay
Extra Honey Beer and Egg

IA with the other ladies that said there's no need to pre-oil w/CV soaps, the ACV rinse is highly recommended after use.

Chagrin Valley Shampoo Bars are all that and a bag of chips for my hair, never going back to commercial shampoo, my nettle bar and acv rinse is all I need for cleansing and shine. LOVE Chagrin Valley...I use her soaps on my body, occasionally my hair.

I'm addicted to Chagrin Valley soap bars. Been using them for years. My faves are Marshmallow Babassu (favorite) and Nettle (2nd fave). I also like Summer Sunshine.

They last forever if you cut them into small squares. I keep one square OUTSIDE of the shower stall in a little tin container (that came with my Lush Cosmetic coconut shampoo bar one time-- I love that poo bar too but much more expensive), and the rest of the cut up squares stay in the brown baggie in my closet till I need another one. Lasts FOREVAH! I use them several times per week and don't feel guilty about pooing too often.

i just used my chagrin valley carrot milk and honey shampoo bar today for the first time. i loved it. i was told that i should drench my hair in oils before hand so i did. i used vatika frosting and evoo and lathered twice and my hair felt sooooooo soft.
this one is a keeper. i also have an olive and babassu one and an herb garden one.

Have to get me one this week any recommendations/

honestly, i think all of them are good. I've tried 3 of them and I've never heard anything bad about the others. It seems like everyone likes Babassu and Marsh Mallow. My other favorite is Cafe Moreno...it has coffee in it for dark hair and is sooo moisturizing as well. Those two are my fave.

I just received my chagrin shampoo bars in the mail today just in time for wash day. I had cornrows in for 3 weeks and I couldn't wait to wash my hair. I prepooed with some indian oils, washed my hair with the nettle bar from chagrins. It lathered well but after my hair felt like there was a thick coating of film on it so I did an acv rinse like the website says and my hair felt very clean and soft. I then dc'ed with ORS replenishing pak for 20 min applied my leave ins and did two stranded twists. These shampoo bars are definitely a keeper.

(Stupid Question Alert)
Can I use Porosity Control after Chagrin Valley Soap instead of the ACV rinse. My hair doesn't respond well to the ACV rinse and I would love to try the Chagrin Valley bar.:ohwell:

I use the shampoo bars and will NEVER go back to using regular shampoo. I love the way it makes my hair feel so soft and conditioned. I will never, ever, go back to using liquid shampoo.

If you've not tried it, don't sleep on it! Trust me, you'll never go back to liquid.:nono:

I like using shampoo bars. They are pretty much the only form of soap I use on my hair. They are convenient and very healthy for hair and scalp (I like Chagrin Valley's shampoo bars). The only thing I don't like about them is that they are slightly basic, so I have to follow the use of them with a mild vinegar rinse. Not everyone does, but I find if I don't my hair doesn't feel as silky. But other than that they're great :). I've heard that some people (not me, lol) don't even need to use a conditioner after using certain shampoo/soap bars.

I don't see why not?? Porosity control and acv serve the same purpose, to balance the ph of the hair, and to help the cuticle lay down smoothly. I am learning how to include porosity control as the final step in whatever I am doing to my hair (washing, dc'ing, henna,..). It should work well as a final rinse after the shampoo bars too!

Thanks for the reply. I have several Chagrin Valley Soaps that I have been waiting to try, and I love my Roux Porosity Control. I didn't want to add ACV, too.

Karen's Body Beautiful has a pretty nice shampoo bar. http://www.karensbodybeautiful.com/product_p/1011.htm

I use the Juicy formulation for moisture. It lathers well and leaves my hair clean and soft. I do notice sometimes that I have the waxy feel, so after reading this thread I may just try a very diluted ACV rinse after use (alothough the juicy formulation already contains some ACV) bc I do know I have hard water at my home. Even with the slightly waxy feel after use, I still really like it. Right now I haven't found anything that makes my hair feel better than my Ancient Secrets herbal shampoo (contains sulfates) and conditioning rinse, though-
