i was looking for them on line, i heard they are suppose to be more gentle on the hair, im trying to find one made in India, i heard those are really good, i may try the lush brand if im desperate

I've never used a shampoo bar. After transitioning for 18 months I big chopped June 2009. I have a mixture of 3C/4A hair. Like many on this forum, I've noticed that sulfate shampoos are a no no. My hair feels brittle after I use them on my natural hair. I currently use DevaCare No Poo to cleanse my scalp and hair. I deep condition with AO Honeysuckle Rose.

--For the naturals, how do the shampoo bars compare to DevaCare No Poo/ Lo Poo?

--There was some mention in this thread about shampoo bars turning some people's hair red? If you have further knowledge on this, please share.

--Lastly, having to ACV rinse after using a shampoo bar seems a bit much. Are there any shampoo bars that you have used that you've notice don't require an ACV as compared to others? And/or has anyone used AO Glycogen Protein Conditioner after using the shampoo bars? I find that GPC tends to normalize the balance in my hair.

Thanks in advance for any information you may be able to share. As always, knowing both the good and the bad helps to make an informed decision. I'm trying to keep the pjism to a minimum.

I still love my Chagrin Valley bars. My favorites are Coconut Milk, Lavender & Spice, Rosemary Mint, and Ayurvedic Herb. I also do an ACV rinse each time I shampoo, but it's not at all a hassle. It's as simple as adding some ACV to a bowl of warm water, dumping it on your head, and letting it sit for a few seconds until you rinse.

I LOVE POOOOOOOOOOOOOO BARSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
CHAGRIN VALLEY SOAPS ARE THE BEST IN THE WHOLE WORLD
goatsmilkstuff soaps seem good but I havent tried those yet

I love chagrin valley too but I hear so many people talk about acv rinsing I even bought some but must not do it correctly. How do you do yours after the poo?

--Lastly, having to ACV rinse after using a shampoo bar seems a bit much. Are there any shampoo bars that you have used that you've notice don't require an ACV as compared to others?Well, the only one that I have tried is from Mehandi.com and I never used an ACV rinse. I didn't hear about this until members that have used Chargin Valley shampoo bars needed to use it after they shampoo. And/or has anyone used AO Glycogen Protein Conditioner after using the shampoo bars? I find that GPC tends to normalize the balance in my hair. Never used this either.

I love shampoo bars....they are great and makes the hair clean without stripping it. HTH

I just remembered that I have a box of this in my stash:

shikakai-powder1.jpg

It is powdered shikakai. You add water to form a paste and apply it to your hair to gently clense:

"Hesh Shikakai Powder acts as a natural astringent for hair enhancing its binding properties. It clears dandruff and cleans the dirt accumulated on the scalp. Being a natural conditioner for hair, SHIKAKAI strengthens hair roots and promotes luxuriant growth. Hesh Shikakai powder has certain vital properties that act as coolants for the scalp. This powder has to be mixed with water and used as a paste on the hair instead of shampoo"

You can either use the full 100g box as one treatment or take 2 tsp and add it to 2 cups of water to make a rinse for your hair.

I oiled up my hair and scalp last night and will see how well it works on my hair.

I have this in my stash and do use it when I want to clarify. Be careful about getting it in your eyes....girl, that stuff burns like crazy.

It's also very messy. Put some newspapers on the floor and be careful. Other than that, I like it....it's a good product to cleanse the hair with.

i dont understand how to use these bars. like i would feel like i would tangle the heck out of my hair trying to wash it.

It was messy, drippy and gritty. In a way, much more of a hassle than shampoo but my hair feels a lot softer and more moisturized so I'll use a squeeze bottle next time :)

I have used them, right now I have the J.R. liggett for damaged hair. I like them but I haven't been impressed enough to stop using liquid shampoo. Once I am all natural again I will revisit shampoo bars.

I just wanted to add that I've tried the Swastik Shikakai bar and it is very gentle and non drying!!

I have a ton of liquid Dr.Bronner's soap but that stuff is soo concentrated and strong I'd be afraid to put it in my hair!!

I use LUSH Trichomania. I have tried some other bars but this one actually leaves my hair more moisturized than anything else i have ever used, at the same time that it literally feels sqeaky clean ( it doesnt actually squeak, but feels super clean). It does have sulfates but one of the primary ingredients is creamed coconut, which i think leads to the retained moisture.

I don't think I will ever go back to liquid shampoo, its much easier to just clean my scalp/ roots. I just part and rub the bar along the part, and gently massage until my entire scalp/roots are saturated. I usually start out with my hair in 4 sections, and once in a while i will part that section again to really get in there but usually just 4 sections and a little rubbing on the perimeter, where the parts are is enough to get my entire scalp lathered up, without stripping my hair. For some reason with liquid shampoos, i have never been able to get the hang of " just apply shampoo at the roots" thing. I always ended up with it everywhere.

I have found some other all natural bars made without sulfates and packed with oils etc. but they all felt extremely drying in comparison to the Trichomania. I think I sound like a crazed fanatic, but I have never found something I love so much. It also smells heavenly! I am going to post the ingredients to the LUSH shampoo so you guys can judge.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Stearic Acid, Creamed Coconut (Cocos nucifera), Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Cocamide DEA, Lecithin, Perfume, Vetivert Oil (Vetiveria zizanoides).

Does anyone know if the Chagrin Valley soaps can double up as soap for your body?
Just in case I don't like my samples...

ETA- meant to say if the shampoo bars can double up as body soaps.
Thanks for the response @NaturallyATLPCH
