Hello everyone. I'm new to the board but I have a problem.
Well it all started about 1 1/2 years ago when I died my hari BLACK. After getting tired of the color, I wanted to go back to my honey highlights. Of couse, NO ONE would dye my hair because it was colored black. Therefore, I had to wait about a year to finally highlight my hair. SOooooo last november, somone did my hightlights...and they looked pretty nice.
The problem is now that whatever that hairstylist did, KILLED my hair. I know it was her because she only did 3/4 of my head, and the part she DIDNT do is just fine. So now, the top part of my head is full of very fine, hay looking hair when i naturally have a soft curl.
Does anyone have any advice on how I can fix my dry, broken hair??????? (i.e., any really good intense moisturizing conditioner/ hot oils?)
Also, I've been reading a lot of the posts, and I'm confused as to what vitamins I should so that my hair will grow fast, nice, and strong!
THank you all!!!!!!

Hi everyone, I am going away on vacation but I wanted to post something, it's kinda long but here goes I hope y'all like it and please email me with your opinions and tips... here goes:

HI Ladies! It's been awhile since I've posted anything but I just wanted you to know what's up with me. Well I have found some really great hair products and discovered some hair care tricks (some of you probably know these tricks already). First in regards to washing and deep conditioning; I recently purchased Aphogee E.F.A. (essential fatty acids oil) this stuff is really great. I use it on my skin to moisturize, so I got the bright idea to put some of it in my UBH (Cathy Howse) deep conditioner...well, the results were fantastic! Not only was my hair deep conditioned but it was extra soft and shiny and not so tangled up.

Products

I have excessively curly hair (like a vast majority of black folks), I don't like bone straight hair so I get relaxers about 2-3 time a year just to control the curl. I found a website www.frizzoff.com that has great products for curly hair. At first I was very skeptical because the inventor of these products does not hair kinky/curly hair, and I taught that it would only work on non-african hair, but it works! The products are a little expensive but they work! After using the shampoo my hair was shiny and tangle free...the conditioner made my hair soft and shiny! I also purchased a bone comb...this stuff really works! THis comb is made of plant resin and the teeth have no seems. when I combed my WET HAIR it did not come out and I have type 3c/4a/4b hair that is extremely difficult to comb and it very fragile...I did a test and used the bone comb on one side and my regular wide tooth on the other and the bone comb did not rip out my hair.

Nasty Hair stylists

Okay so I recently got some cornrow they look cute but I went through so much to get them. I live in NJ and I went to bloomfield to get them at an African shop. THe shop was not the cleansiest but I wanted my hair to look cute. The night before I spent 2 hrs preparing my hair by washing and deep conditioning and gently detangling with my bone comb...when I arrive I had to wait 3 hrs to get my hair "did". I was not pleased...anyway this hair braider started to rough comb my hair with a brush that was not even for black hair! So I said "could you please not brush so hard I kind of have a headache" and she replies rather rudely "do you want to comb it yourself?" Not wanting to cause a scene I sat and endured the pain...it gets worst...I showed her a pic of a cute braided do and at first one braider (owner) said she could do it. THen another braider started to work on my hair and refused to do the style cause according to her "it won't look good on your hair...you hair is too thicke..it's going look nasty" then they (all of the African braiders) started to talk about me in their language (french creole) and started laughing! I was pissed... this real ugly one with nasty hair (by that I mean practically bald, damaged and thining) kept looking at me and making nasty comments in their language! So I said to her "Something funny huny?" At this point the owner intervened and told the girl to turn around and away from me, from that point on they all gave me dirty looks. Anyways I didn't even get the style that I wanted and I had to deal with a nasty braider who braided too tight and a nasty shop...I guess I get what I pay for, I am so tired of these nasty attitude, scissor happy don't listen to customers hair stylists... I think I am just gonna have to do things on my own...I am so tired of hair dressers always wanting to put a relaxer in my hair when I don't need one, ready to snip snip snip when I don't want to cut it...as the saying goes to get something done right you gotta do it yourself and I think that is just what I must do! THANKS FOR LETTING ME VENT! I AM GOING ON VACATION SOON SO I WILL PROBABLY HOLLA AT Y'ALL IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS!

Welcome Sandyg,
I would just recommend pre-shampoo hot oil treatments before every shampoo. Avocado oil is awesome. Extra Virgin Olive Oil is good too and easier to obtain. I would also recommend doing a protein treatment, with Nexxus Emergencee or Aphogee Intensive Treatment followed by a good moisturizing conditioner. I like Feria Color Moisturizing Conditioner or Mizani Moisturfuse. Also, keeping direct heat out of your hair for now is important. Hopefully the other ladies here can give you more advice.
