Maybe because my hair is fine it's different for me. But I've never kept my hair super wet to rollerset--and I'm a rollersetting QUEEN. I roll a mohawk right down the middle toward the back, I might roll the last two at the end of that up--or not. I roll the first couple of curlers on each side going back, and then I might alternate direction or just roll the ones up at the very back. Because my hair is long, too much water would take forever to dry. I keep it damp, but that's all I need to achieve a beautiful smooth set.

I don't doobie--can't, no point. My hair is too fine to release all the curls like that; I wear my hair straight only once my set has released naturally after a few days. I always get big pretty spiral curls from my fresh roller sets--love 'em! Makes the fellers stare... They're especially pronounced when I alternate curler direction.

I have found that since i straightend my hair with the flat iron i put rollers in it all night and nothing really happend. my hair didnt curl to it :(

i am not sure what i am doing wrong. mayb i should have put some water in my hair when i rolled it

I've never been able to get my hair to curl after being flat-ironed either. You probably need to use a curling iron or hot curlers.

BEcause my hair is so short I can only roll down. However, when I go to the hair dresser to get a roller set she somehow finds a way to roll my hair up and it turns out alright. I don't have skills with the rollers yet to roll up!

can i transport someone to my house to rollerset my hair? [lol] with my spray bottle handy, i attempted to rollerset my wet hair, rolling up, and it was a hot mess! i stopped mid way through. i could not get the clips to hold the rollers tight enough so that my roots would be straight. i ended up flat-ironing my hair instead. :ohwell:

Ladies, the latest issue of Sophisticates BLack Hair has a really good article with pics (COLOR) for rollersetting. It gives exact details how to do a proper rollerset, this may be helpful to someone out there.

Thanks, I'm off to the Newstand!:)

Hey to all yo ladies having issues with roller sets don't give up until you try the mesh roller with the pin that goes throught them. I was ready to quit after the magnetic ones...(which I need to post for sale btw). I tried the mesh and haven't looked back yet. Now, I will have to try the reverse rolling that has been discussed here

I did my first rollerset going up. For some reason I couldn't do it on the right side of my head though so I had to roll down.

Someone gave me mesh rollers recently and my hair tried to eat them. :( I have (not quite enough) magnetic rollers and still have yet to get it looking nice enough that I'd leave the house.

I hate to start another thread, but does anyone remember a post in which the poster drew a picture of the perfect rollerset patternon piece of paper and posted it? I searched for it and couldn't find it.

I love this thread, I took the advice of several ladies and rollerset my hair all going up. My hair :love2:it, it looks soooooo great, this is the best rollerset I have done period:gorgeous:, I wish I new about this method before. Thanks for ALL the info.:yep:

I grew up rollersetting my hair going downward. Now that my hair is 2 inches away from SL and I will no longer look like a black woody woodpecker if I roll upward, I have been rolling my hair upward.

I absolutely love it!!!!!!!

My (thin) hair has so much more body when I comb it out after rolling upward.

I rollerset going up like the dominicans because it ends up giving me more space so the rollers are not crowded all over my head. I do think its better to roll down tho because i feel like roller is being supported by a section of hair which probably stresses the hair. However, if I roll going down, I just have too many rollers in my hair.
I follow Macherie's technique from her dvd. Mohawk downward and sides upward.

I was rollersetting down but once I started rollersetting up i was hooked because it made my roots lay flat. It is especially good when you have a lot of ng.

I rollerset facing upwards. Just started this a few months ago. Gives the hair a lot of body and lays roots down nicely. That part I have down.

What I need help with is combing the curls out. I always lose the curls that I am seeking once I silk wrap or tie down with a scarf.

To maintain the curls you have to pin curl it at night. In the morning you will still have curls.

Imma try pincurls. I've been meaning to, just been lazy. Reiko has a video tutorial in her fotki on how to do pincurls. That is the last thing I have to conquer in my rollersetting technique. I'll keep ya posted. Thanks.

I rollerset the sides up, the middle going back, with trial and error you can fit the rollers rolling down on the sides if you pull the hair up and away it should work out the same as if you were rolling the sides up. hope I made sense :).
