My option wasnt really there. But I do single twist, then twist it into a bantu knot. I wont get good twist out results, until my hair is longer.

Without putting it into a bantu knot, straight twist seem to look "electrified" on me.
I gotta try this one day....

I do twistouts only when I take out my twists, I haven't tried them for just a daily style. I agree that single twists have a weird look to them though, I'm gonna try the bantu knots one day.

For the ladies doing flat twists, how do you unravel and fluff without messing up the definition? Flat twists stretch my hair out better than doing 2 strand twists, but when I try to blend the rows together, the waves are gone.

I always do twistouts from single twists. I love the look.

I haven't tried them with flat twists. I gotta try that.

I like twistouts better than braidouts.

Usually when I do a braidout, I do single braids and then comb them out. I get a more uniform look when I do braidouts from cornrows which I do not comb out.

I do about 8 cornrows all going back for more definition for a braidout. Twistouts don't give enough definition. I have short hair.

Does your techinique depend on whether you're relaxed or natural? For example, do single braids or twists tend to look better on natural hair, and cornrows for relaxed?

Well, I've been doing flat twists for my twistouts and I like the results! After unraveling the flat twists, it resembles my hair texture more unlike the single 2-strand twists.

I haven't had a twist out in quite a while. But I used to get them at the salon in hs when I was growing out my short cut. She used to flat 2 strand twist my wet hair with setting lotion. I sat under the dryer and once it was completely dry she plucked it out.

I mostly do braidouts with box braids. I haven't mastered doing cornrows on my own hair yet.

Two french braids (or I guess two big cornrows) for braidouts and individual twists for twistouts but I'm going to try the flat twists soon.

My hair responds really well to twisting.. I could twist a section and take it out two minutes later and the definition stays. Odd since my hair isn't actually thick but works for me.

I used to strickly do cornrows straight back...4...with perm rods on the ends for a tight curly look...the length is camouflaged.

Last night I was playing in my hair (bad frankie) and I did about 8 two strand twists after putting some conditioner on the ends...didn't plan to wear it as a style, but I took them out and it was wavy this afternoon so I wore it like that today. I pulled the sides up and pinned them with a strategically placed bobby pin and let the back hang loose.

I do the 2 strand twist at night with leave in conditioner and take it out every morning. But as of this week I wash and go I don't put anything in my hair not even leave in I just wash and go and the thing is I just put the towel on my head take it off and go out the door. As my hair grows it gets curlier. I think doing the 2strand twist was wrecking havic on my ends. I had to give it a break. Anyway when I do the twist I kind of pick my hair with my fingers so the lines disappear and it looks like a curly afro if it looks to spiky looking I wear a handband and it looks even better. I always get compliments when I wear my hair like that. I love my natural hair I never have a bad hair day. If I don't feel lke being bothered I wet it put some moisturiser and leave in and put the band on and go. When I was natural I always had to bring out the curling iron. Glad thats over. I don't know if I know how to use the thing now. Its been over a year, since I stopped.

right now i have my hair in box briads 21 of them, i feel like a little kid even tho i do plan on wearing it like this for a few days then doing a briad out. i want to do twists but i am afraid it wont work right on my hair, i guess i need to get the right gel, and i dont think i could flat cornrow or twist my hair cuz i am not that talented

for braidouts: i like 6 cornrows- 2 on each side by the ear, 2 in the middle top, 2 in middle bottom

for twistouts:
i prefer ind. b/c my hair is 2 thick 4 twists a la "cornrow style"

i think i prefer braidouts cuz my hair comes out really fluffy!!!

:D braidouts are my everyday lawd-i-don't-feel-like-being-bothered-with-this-stuff style of choice. twistouts don't really blend my textures as well as braidouts.

i'll do anywhere between 4-6 braids. 2-3 in front and 2 or 3 in back. sometimes instead of making vertical parts in the back (braids lay ontop of each other), i'll make them horizontal. i've got alot of natural wave so it really doesn't matter though.

wash, condish (or deep condish). rattail comb to make the sections. spray each section with elasta H2O, detangle with denman and braid it up. (eta, yall know it's the OTHER end of the rattail comb, right LOL).

one thing about the parts is i don't really try to make straight parts. that way when i unbraid, there's no part to cover up.

products used after that really varies. sometimes i'll just add a bit of oil on strands and a lil shea butter on the ends.

sometimes i'll use lottabody creme wrap as i braid (i like this alot) and lil shea butter on the ends.

at the end of the day i'll spray a bit of the H2O and lightly rebraid. i can do this for about 5 days before i feel like i want to wash again. i also find that after a few days my hair starts to straighten-out too much so rewashing is a necessity.

oh yea....i found out here the way i braid my hair is called french braiding when i thought i was actually normal braiding. my mom did it that way and i didn't know the difference until coming to the various hair boards. so now i switch up the directions from french-style to regular braid style and get a slightly different type of wave.

ETA for pre-coffee typos ;)

My preference is not one of the options in the poll. i love coil-outs. i finger coil my damp hair with gel and unravel a few days later. i have really thin hair so with the coils i dont get parts showing on my scalp.

Ive done it all the ways mentioned, my hair comes out better when I flat twist (for my twistouts) and cornrow (for my braidouts). Individuals still come out pretty good but dont seem to last as long.

I voted twist-out singles.

these work great when I am post relaxer.

My technique: After my wash/dc w/heat and after my rinse out conditioner is out I go ahead and twist and braid while water is still flowing over my hair. Then I get under the dryer for a little bit to get most of the water out. I keep each twist/braid pinned under. Dab some sweet almond oil or EVOO on my edges so the heat from the dome dryer straightens it somewhat.. I also spray my hair with my UBH dew. Then I tie my hair down with my scarf. The next morning I take down my twist/plaits, moisturize and seal with oil and lastly I throw on a headband! A great easy yet stylish style which usually last for a couple of days. hth:)

ETA: boy my style changes through out the months!!! Now my fav. technique is bantu knot style... then the next day I take down the knots and voila! nice curls!

I actually created my own technique. I part my hair from ear to ear and then i double flat twist(corn row style) the top in about 6 twist and the do the back in about 4 twist the same way i do the top. I do it this way because my hair is layered/uneven(by accident lol) and I love the way it looks!

That's a very pretty style!

5 french braids downward (didn't vote because french braids isn't an option).

Twistouts....about 10 single twists, but I want to experiment with flat twists since my twistouts always look like wash n gos.
