Pic Updates...One month later... :)

Well you're ever in town chica I will escort you there personally. I trust this woman. And it's a good thing too - because my Mom was trimming me for a while which was wonderful - THANKS MOM (she lurks /images/graemlins/grin.gif) but my hair lacked some shape. Sandra gives me shape without hacking of an uneccessary inches.

My last relaxer (she does those for too - BUT FYI was NOT responsible for the rollerset results in these pics - that was somewhere else) was also done by her. It was painless and well done. I like her a lot. For relaxing and trimming she's phenomenal. I amy consider BRH stylist for relaxers the next go round but we'll see....I'm reluctant to change ANYTHING now - y'know?

Thanks girl. I will let you know when I'll be coming up (ahead of time). It'll probably will be in the April/May timeframe (I need to grow it out a little more). Maybe I'll get a relaxer too /images/graemlins/grin.gif.
Don't change a thing girl...if it ain't broke don't fix it /images/graemlins/smile.gif
Talk to you later.... /images/graemlins/wave.gif

Hey Tar...

I knew I missed sumbudy! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

The B5 is ABSOLUTELY what I attribute the "thickness" to. My hair used to be totally see through on the ends. You can see it a little in the "Beginning pics" when my hair was mostly dark with just a few highlights...the bottoms of my hair you can see my shirt through - well the whole bottom half of my hair looked like that 3 years ago. Really! And then JADE (1,2,3 altogether now - /images/graemlins/kisses.gif for Jade! ) told me about B5 and you see the effect. My hair is pretty much one thickkness throughout the strand and my only thinnish spots are where my layers are in the front. AND I NEVER took them consistently! I would do it for about 3 months diligently and then nothing for 3 months and so on.

I'm going to try a loading dose soon beased on your skin recommendations...so keep me posted, k!

Good Luck nenita....let me know how you're doing. :

Tracy, what exactly is a loading dose?

WTF????!!!! /images/graemlins/mad.gif

This is like day 3 that I havent been able to view your pics, Tracy!!! Is it my computer????

Well, anyway, I've seen the pics earlier and I, too adore the color, the shine and the health of your hair.

Simply gorgeous, dahling!
/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Tracy babe,

what do you use to color your hair and is it professionally done? how much B5 do you take? /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Tracy your hair is SIMPLY FANTASTIC!]/b] Whatever you're doing, don't quit! I've read your threads about the cellophane and fantasia line. You are absolutely right. I've used these products, along with henna also, and always made sure to add some type of supplement for nutritional value to these cuticle sealers to make sure the supplement could be sealed in as well for added conditioning /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Keep up the great work,
<font color="purple">Amethyst</font>

It means taking way more than the recommended dose to quickly get the body up to speed on that supplement and fix any deficiencies you might have quickly. So the levels increase rapidly in the blood to produce a desired effect faster. The loading dosage for skin problems according to Tara (aka our beloved cookie faced Iggles /images/graemlins/grin.gif ) is 10,000 mgs of B5.....

I don't think you can do this with ALL vits though. The B's should be ok. For instance - I think the dosage many of us commonly take of Biotin - 5mgs. - is a loading dose.

I think this is a decent explanation (Jade if yo're around help me out here! I am a novice!).

Tracy I'm glad the B5 worked for you, cause I know the fineness (is that even a word /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif) of your hair was one of the things you wanted to improve on.

The ends of your hair, are they actually physicall thicker or is the new thick growth causing the rest of the hair to appear thicker? In a nutshell does it change the entire strand of hair or just the new growth?

/images/graemlins/wallbash.gif why do I go round the houses, when I ask a damn question /images/graemlins/look.gif Never mind me I think I should change my name to crazydiva

Crazydiva, /images/graemlins/grin.gif (girl please I'm the queen of "round the house" questions and a ridiculous amount of superfluous verbiage - see there I go again.... /images/graemlins/laugh.gif)....

After three years of on and off use, my strand is INDEED one thickness all the way down. My roots and ends are roughly the same. When I first started using it - the roots thickened first. Then the rest filled in as the new roots slowly but surely became older ends....

But I noticed a difference in the appearance in about 3 to 4 months or so. The more and the longer I took it, the better my hair got.

HTH.... /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hey Tracy!
I wrote in your guestbook bc I can't post on this board from home. I just wanted to know where you go for your wash and sets. I'm in NYC and need a dependable place. Also, does getting your roots blown help you extend your time bw tups and for how long ? i really want to wait longer but i never do because i like to wear my hair straight.
Thanks
cara

Tracy---that's one of my favorite things about you---your superfluous verbiage!!!

In fact, maybe you can help me on something. I need to write a strongly worded letter about soemthing that happened to me today (why does it always have to be me? /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif).....but I digress...... /images/graemlins/drunk.gif

Tracy your hair looks beautiful. You're an inspiration.

Questions, where do you get the Monoi de Tahiti Oil, how long do you wait btwn relaxers, and what is your vitamin regimen?

aww, you are SO sweet! i just basically try to stay out of God's way and let Him do his thang!

anyway, i remember last year on the old board when you were really frustrated and wondering what you were doing wrong. you also had the bad experience with the woman that scratched the scabs. remember that? /images/graemlins/shocked.gif

AND LOOK AT YOU NOW! YOU ROCK, GIRL!!!

Thanks for the response Tracy. I'm going to pass the B5 info onto my boyfriend's sister as she wants to gain thickness and I recommended the B5 to her. I've now got a full time client (and I get paid in fried chicken /images/graemlins/grin.gif) and I take care of her relaxers (my first time, so Pandora when you're in town next time I can hook you up in return for a 3 piece and 2 ribs /images/graemlins/smile.gif) her cuts and this summer her color.

Thanks again. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

ooooh I love KFC chicken. /images/graemlins/lick.gif The relaxer turned out VERY well. She was previously a NO LYE girl and I lent her the Shamboosie book to read up on it and the differences in the relaxers. I explained everything I was going to do, just like one of those stylists that we all wish and hope for **flutters lashes** &lt;---- Hey, Nikos we need a flirty female icon here /images/graemlins/smile.gif lol I use Affirm Lye mixed with Extra Virgin Olive Oil whipped it all up real good. I based her scalp with vaseline and it took over an hour. Girl this was my 1st time and I was prepared to make sure it went as smoothly as possible and didn't miss a bit of scalp.

I gave her an aphogee treatment to stop the breakage where she has the no lye and then a DC with ORS Hair mayo after that. She was ESTATIC with the results /images/graemlins/clap.gif and vowed never to go back to the No Lye ever again. All she kept saying was WOW WOW WOW.

I trimmed or dusted her ends a little and took off minute pieces and showed her each time I trimmed so she wasn't afraid, and then showed her the end result of the trim in the mirror and the little piece I took off all around made her hair look so much thicker.

I'm pleased with results and I'm even more pleased that she's pleased with the job I did. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

wow that sound excellent. did you refer her to the boards. i wish that i had someone like you when i started my hair journey!!!! she probably wont ever have to worry about stylists till she or you move far away. well done diva /images/graemlins/clap.gif

Thanks Pandora. She hasn't got internet access at home. I had to print out adrienne's hair journey pics at work cause I knew they would inspire her and everytime she turned the page she was like /images/graemlins/shocked.gif /images/graemlins/shocked.gif /images/graemlins/shocked.gif /images/graemlins/shocked.gif Her goal was only shoulder length something she'd reach in a few months. After seeing Adriennes growth she's upped that to waist length. My girl was covering her head with her hands in disbelief at her (adrienne's) hair. She couldn't get over her growth in 3 years.

Sorry for the delay Robin - I'm still trying to catch up. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I do still use the Adore. Been refreshing/toning the color down with either Adore, Jazzing or Clairol Natural Instincts.

Underneath all of that is the Textures and Tones color I used last summer - in lightest blond. So the "base" color that my hair lifted to is like a strawberry blond, and then I use the rinses to keep it a more coppery color. The color actually looks darker in this set of pics than it actually is.

Actually Azul - I'm not sure what effect the steaming actually has. I know my hair comes out way softer, smoother and shinier at this specific Dominican salon than in many others. I always attributed that to the products they use (mixes of their own making that I suspect contain high quantities of Olive Oil) but I've gotten so many questions about the steaming that I'm wondering if this is why my hair comes out so unbelievably smooth and soft when I go to this one particular place.

So I guess the answer is I'm not sure exactly what the benefits are, but normatively speaking, I would imagine that steam heat is a better option than dry heat when you can get it (sort of like how some of us would rather use caruso rollers than curling irons? although this isn't a great example because that difference is a bit more remarkable I would imagine) because your getting moisture in the form of water along with the heat that is causing the conditioner to really penetrate to it's maximum potential. I have done it after a relaxer - yes. But I would make sure they are sure to really rinse and neutralize you well. The theory there is that I would imagine steam has a greater ability to open the pores than does dry heat (don't ask why - this is just a gut feeling rahter than some sort of scientific fact /images/graemlins/wink.gif ) and so any realxer left in the hair (already a big problem) would be much more damaging to the scalp if heat and open pores are thrown into the mix.

Mindymouse,

Hodge Podge a la Tracy /images/graemlins/wink.gif see above for the actual breakdown as best as I can give one.

Thank you for the compliment.

Pandora,

I do it myself. T&amp;T permanent color, and any number of rinses in any number of shades....

Adore: Ginger, Yellow

Jazzing: Red Hot, Gold

Sebastian: Cinnamon, Ginger, Glorious Gold, Honey Wheat, Reddisimo

Natural Instincts: Suede (a light golden brown), Desert Sunrise (a bright copper)

I have used any and all of these together and alone at some point or another. I basically just add and subtract what tones I need to keep it a bright coper color. I never mix forumlas (permanent, semipermanent, demipermanent) - I only color using two different shades within the same formula type and brands.

HTH

Caralexis,

GURL! Long time no "see"!
Missed you chica!

I go to Sandra's on 138th &amp; Broadway. Sandra does my hair. I base before I go and I bring Motions Oil Relaxer in Mild. Blowing my roots at Daisi's (the salon where I get the steam treatments in Brooklyn on Malcolm X and Chauncey) extends my touch ups by about 3 weeks. I can normally go about 7 with ease...Daisi's blowing the roots ONLY allows me to go to about 10 weeks. After that I wear my hair airdried into curls and then in a bun fashioned from my curly ends. That gets me to 12 if I want to go that far.

Fashionista,

Thank you much! I buy my Monoi de Tahiti (in yummy scrumptious Vanilla scent) from http://www.tahiti-iti.com . /images/graemlins/grin.gif

See above for the relaxer info.

My vit regimen is shody but here's what I purport to take... /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Vitol Great Hair
Vitamin B5 - Twinlab, 1000mgs. a day
EFAS - 300 mgs. a day, Twinlab
Biotin - Country Life, 5 mgs.
Powdered Vit C. - 2000 mgs. a day
Silica - Kal, 1800mgs. (roughly)

See it's success stories like yours that keep me coming back!!! Your mane is awesome and it does make you want to run out and get color. How many times a year do you get the permanent color done? /images/graemlins/drunk.gif /images/graemlins/drunk.gif /images/graemlins/drunk.gif

Tracy,

Oh Hair Color Guru, have you ever used Feria (I know you didn't list it), but it's supposed to be really gentle and what not. I want to dye my hair soon &amp; I really like the color that you have, I want something in that family, but I plan on giving myself highlights or lowlights not an all over color. I was watching GLOW on the style channel and they were showing how to do it at home sooooo, that's the plan! Also, the March GLAMOUR has a good article on hair color (not that you need it)....now I'm rambling!!! /images/graemlins/drunk.gif

oh okay i see. i saw steaming offered in this salon i go to but i have never seen anyone actually get one so i wasnt sure what the benefits were. i may give it a try i have seen some ladies here who make their own steamers so i am assuming its a benefical to your hair. and the proof is in the pudding your hair looks gorgeous so it cant hurt. /images/graemlins/smile.gif God bless you all.

Ms. Kenesha :giggle and baby voice: I'm not a guru - I'm just a girl! /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif

My sincere advice is to stay away from Feria. Many of the people I know wirth damaged colored hair used Feria. I myself, have only had negative experiences with it. My rec. is to go with Textures and Tones. It is possible that Feria could be fine on your hair -especially if you only use it to highlight your hair - but on mine is was a disaster. My hair was dry and brittle within days of using the color, and it broke considerably.

Sorry I couldn't give you better news. Some of their colors are so beautiful - but the formula leaves much to be desired. /images/graemlins/frown.gif
