October 2016: Hits & Misses

Hit but total Miss at the same time:
QB Moringa Tree Detangling Ghee.

This and the Amla Heavy Cream smell exactly the same, just this one is stronger because it's more a liquid consistency. With that said, it smells like stinky orange/mandarin mixed with fruity pebbles and I hate the fruity smells.

It goes on well but I can't detangle with this. This is just typical for me. Absorbs well and leaves me with no tangles.

Consistency is great. However, I did a twist out with 26 mini twist and each twist needed 1-2 pumps per twist. I went through quite a bit.

Comparing this to APB Cherry Kukui and SD WGBC, this is too expensive with less use. I used 1/5 of the bottle today, meanwhile, the other two mentioned I've used over 10 times and still have 1/2 and 3/4 bottles, respectively, left.

In the end, this is not cost effective when I have other products that work just as well for less.

This is literally junk  Upon rinsing out my hair didn't feel soft at all yet not dry. Almost like it was just washed with some nice water . After detangling and adding a leave in and I think there is just enough moisture to last me for the week.

Side note since we are all here :look: Can anyone recommend a commercial protein shampoo + protein deep conditioner that I can find in stores? I want to try alternating moisture and protein weeks. Preferably a professional brand.

Aphogee 2 Minute is my favorite "non hard" protein conditioner.

Initial hits:

Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Intensely Smooth Leave In

So I bought this for my daughter's hair :look: and I ended up trying it :look: and I very much like it. My hair is softer than when I use serums. I used the conditioner from this line a few months ago and was really impressed. I may try them both together next month for my pass.

Iso Hydra Condition

This is a light conditioner but my hair is strong, detangled, soft and has a lot of movement. It's not weighted down at all but it's still moisturized. I really like it and it's more reasonably priced than I thought it would be. I need to try the Tamer conditioner from this line. Thanks @free2bme for mentioning it some time ago.

In the trash Misses:
Shea something (forgot the name) spray on leave in. Went on ok, but left a white residue on my hair. Just yuck.

Sample size of a moisturizer. It was an indie brand but also left residue.

Hit:
Ouidad Melt Down deep conditioner - I tried this without a plastic cap. My hair LOVED it.

Miss: Oyin Juices n' Berries going bad, I purchased it from Target in August. I went to Target and Sally Beauty to purchase another bottle and every bottle I opened(about 7 total) had white lumps and discolored swirls in them. I am going to email Oyin and let them know. Their perservative may not be strong enough for this product to be in the mass market. I might order this product from Oyin only.

Hits
- As I Am Double Butter Cream: This will be my winter moisturizer. I used this on my hair before braiding my hair down for my wigs and it left my hair moisturized for days! I will be trying some more As I Am products

- Dominican Magic Deep Fortifying Conditioner: I like this better than the Revitalizing Mask. I liked the mask, but the deep conditioner is a thicker consistency and is more moisturizing, plus it doesn't have mineral oil like the mask. I think my hair is having some moisture overload, because it's a bit mushy and limp, so a protein treatment is overdue. I might need to revisit this once I get my protein/moisture balance back

Hits:
APB wash day after the failed wash day on Saturday.

QB Moringa Tree. Too bad it's not a repurchase.

Continued Hit:
QB CTDG  officially an HG Moisturizer

Revisited Hit:
QB Amla Heavy Cream. Excellent sealer and not greasy at all. Just doesn't leave me with as much shine as Type 4, but the way this moisture is sitting in there, I'm not complaining.

I used to use this a couple years ago and it did nothing

I think I want to try Redken's protein line. Is it you that likes Redken products or am I confusing you with someone else :scratchchin:
The only Redken product I've used is their Hair Cleansing Cream shampoo, which I do love. I also have their Smooth Down Heat Glide but haven't used it. Maybe I need to check out their protein line...:look:

Let me check the bottle I'm donating! Wow!!!! Thanks for sharing.

Hit maybe?: TerraVeda Quinoa Deep Conditioner
:D I'm just so used to being disgusted/disappointed with the performance of TerraVeda products that I don't know how to feel. Yay???
Hit: Purchasing a Neutralizing Bib from Sally's to wear during this henna treatment. I feel smart today! :cup: It's like a backwards bib protecting my neck and back.

Hit so far: Upping my henna mix from 1/2 cup of henna to 3/4 cup of henna in 1 can of coconut milk.

Miss: Two hours of detangling prior to the henna treatment. Oy!

Miss: Not realizing that henna is henna . . . you know, the tattoo henna . . . until hubby said, "You got some on your neck. You don't want a tattoo, now." To which I gave a o_O, and to which he gave a "Ya know?!?? Henna?!?? For tattooing?" To which I then gave an "ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I get it now! Henna is THAT hennaaaaaaaaa! That's why they say Body Art Quality!!!!!!" To which he replied: o_O.

Meh:

Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Shampoo

It was ok. Definitely wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be for a "cheaper" shampoo. My hair didn't feel dry/stiff/breaking or anything but I noticed that I lost more hair during the wash/condition process than when I use professional shampoos. I didn't lose as much hair as when I use clarifying or really cheap shampoos though.... So hence the meh  The conditioner from this line is still the bomb.com. I used it with the shampoo today. Nice slippy hair and softness. My hair still smells nice too.

I used three Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine products for my routine today and I liked the set together: Shampoo, conditioner, leave in cream.

Definite hit: Conair Infinity Pro

That double row straightening comb is truth and the whole dryer is awesome. I didn't try the brush but I really like the detangling and straightening combs. They worked through my new growth and made my hair very smooth.

Now, V777 you know that I'm going to need more explanation. Please be careful with your eyes.
Yes ma'am. Lol. I usually spritz my scalp and spread with my fingres since I'm in crochet braids; But in areas that are too dense, I wash my hands and spritz on my fingers. So I usually swipe my eyelashes very sparingly, and only twice a week. Then I apply my mascara. I tested on my eyebrows first and same effects.
Edited to add mascara clause
