October 2016: Hits & Misses

Miss: This whole fiasco with the well-reviewed yet low-end steamer I ordered.

It was sent missing the stand's piping and all screws. I emailed customer service. I could not BELIEVE their response.

Paraphrases
Email #1 from me: "I don't have the stand's pipe or any screws. Please advise."
Email #1 from them: "Can you please explain the problem, send a photo, and indicate whether the box was damaged or not. Awaiting your reply."

o_O :ohwell: Email #2 from me: "Problem: Stand pipe missing. Screws all missing. Please see attached photo. Solution: Send those. When do you think you will ship?"

Email #2 from them: "Can we send you $20 and you try to look for the missing parts locally?"

 Email #3 from me   : "Most companies do the following in this case: 'Ship another, complete, unproblematic item. Ship a shipping label and postage so that customer can return problematic item.' Can you do that?"
Email #3 from them: "How 'bout $40? Will you take $40? It is hard and costly for us to get things from the manufacturer. Awaiting your reply."

So, I paid just under $60 for it and $0.00 in shipping. These folks don't have another steamer to send me. They are out.

Sigh. If I get the $40 refunded, I will have spent just under $20 for all the parts in the photo above. Pop and hubby say they can get the screws and that an adjustable stand pipe can be created with simple materials.

I wish I had a meme to capture the look on my face right now. I've been set on having a steamer for months and months now and ordered that one in time to arrive before my birthday so I could see -- in a pampering-y birthday steaming session -- if steaming could help me care better for my hair. I had my DC ready . . . I was watching the mail every day . . . .

It's just a product--a material item--so I have it in perspective. However, I just can't form any thoughts right now about that customer service. :nono: Disappointing and weird and . . . just disappointing.

 Wow! That is just plain nuts! I'd return it and never look back.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having this horrible CS experience. The supplier/vendor sounds terrible! However, I think it's a blessing in disguise, :yep:

Have you considered getting an hair analysis? So, you can verify the porosity of your hair. You've stated numerous times that you have high porosity(hi-po) hair. I don't recommend steaming consistently for hi-po ladies. You want your cuticles to close/lay down, not open more. I highly recommend that you DC with heat and not steam, if you're truly hi-po. An analysis would confirm this for you.

Hits:
APB Ayurvedic Cleanser. I like it much better than the regular whipped cleanser. The Whipped Cleanser Creme (butchering this) is really good and cleans the hair well letting you know all the gunk is gone and you hair feels cleans but not stripped. The Ayurvedic leaves you hair clean, but nourished. And less hair fall. I'm sure it's the Ayurvedic properties. While I would recommend both, it's just a matter of preference. I'm sticking with this one.

QB Moringa Tree Detangling Ghee. Works much better for me on WNG hair. Use less too.

Continued Hit:
Darcy's Botanicals Pumpkin Seed Conditioner.

Miss:
Shea Moisture Capuacu Gel-Cream. Gel-Creams are not for me. I'm going to stick with my homemade flaxseed gel and Sarenzo Hair Jelly.

This is literally junk  Upon rinsing out my hair didn't feel soft at all yet not dry. Almost like it was just washed with some nice water . After detangling and adding a leave in and I think there is just enough moisture to last me for the week.

Side note since we are all here :look: Can anyone recommend a commercial protein shampoo + protein deep conditioner that I can find in stores? I want to try alternating moisture and protein weeks. Preferably a professional brand.

I have one of their shampoos and I use it to wash the bath. It so stripping it leaves it squeaky clean

New Hits:

Redken :yep:

Anti-snap leave-in: Does what it says, slows breakage by strengthening and increasing elasticity. I've never had a leave in do both. The slip is wonderful.

Ant-snap deep fuel mask: Great great great. Gave my hair lots of body and again, strengthened without making it stiff. I did still follow up with a moisture DC tho. Good stuff. A little definitely goes a long way.

All soft heavy cream: Its a DC but I put it on my 6 month post ng as a leave-in. Yas. Very soft hair. Honestly I'm reluctant to try this as a DC, spidey senses tell me its going to be a let down.

New Hits
APB's Bamboo strengthening spray & cherry kukui daily moisturizer.
I've had these in my stash since they first debuted but didn't put them in rotation. Awesome stuff as usual. They are now on my BF list since I don't have any backups in the stash.

SSI's green tea and ginseng co-wash. This was awesome. Didn't moisturize better than blueberry but came very close. If she starts offering these in larger sizes I'll repurchase.

You and @Miss Kane got me out here ready to buy a bottle and get to spritzing :curtain:
Yes yes yes. For so long I thought " rose water in hair is extra" boy was I wrong! Makes a big difference :yep: I keep a spray bottle on hand for my hair and face. I use it for LOC too.
I make my own for body products. I'm gonna add some to my shampoo to dilute it and see how my hair responds.

I love it for my face and body too but it's on another level of greatness for my hair.

Continued Hit:

Wetline Xtreme Gel
APB Daily Refresher Spray
Netwurks Excel 21

Another Hit:

Bel Nouvo Avocado & Shea Hair Milk - I really love this moisturizer. If I get it again, I'll most likely get it from Hattache with some other products :yep:

Many thanks! Yes: I in fact have a Komaza hair analysis on my Black Friday list. :yep: I think at this stage that's going to be a very good move for me. I'm looking forward to it! Excited to learn what I need and to see if I'm actually hipo, what the health of my ends are, etc.

I talked to some other hipo ladies about steaming, and they feel their hair is more moisturized with it even though product sinks in to their strands easily anyway. Not sure how regular steaming would do the health of my hair as I have yet to try it. Steam treatments from the salon transformed my hair! Loved it! So manageable and soft and pretty. However, I do want to be careful with steaming, though: I saw a YouTuber lose all of his gorgeous hair because hew was steaming like for an hour each of 3-4 times a week. Eek!
