Checking in to show some status pics :yep:

Since the challenge officially starts tomorrow I thought it would be okay to post some status and a comparison pic. I started using MT at the beginning of Dec. I chopped off 3 inches off the back of my hair and then was forced to try to even out the rest of my hair becuase it looked too thin :perplexed

I washed and applied MT to my hair and since it was already parted took pics along the way. My regimen is the same, i'm washing with Wen Cleansing conditioner in Fig twice a week. Applying MT 3x a week on each wash day and one dry day. Following up with Argan oil and coconut oil. Also, taking garlic supp. daily to prevent against shedding.

Hey Ladies will update starting pics and regimen later this evening...

I got a sew in on December 23. So I believe this will take me up to the end of this challenge....

I will update with pics from the day before I got my install...
Im off to wash my hair...and rollerset my weave...lol

Sorry I'm late. Here's my starting pic!

148pic.jpg

Here's my regimin:

In terms of products, I have a lot of products that I've had for a while, and some that a wonderful LHCFer sent me, so my goal is to use up what I have moreso than try new ones and get staples. I'll work on trying new ones and getting staples, when I've used up more.

So, right now, I (weekly):

- Pre-poo (either w/ Phyto Pre-poo, Burt's Bees Avocado, or EVOO)
- Shampoo (Infusium 23, Avlon Organics Clarifying, KeraCare Dry & Itchy Scalp, or Joico KPac Poo)
- Protein Condish (variety - Aphogee 2min and 2 step, Joico K Pak Reconstructor, Matrix Biolage Fortitherapie...)
- Moisture DC (variety - Too many to name...)
- Porosity Control
- Leave-ins
- Seal w EVCO and JBCO

I've been throwing in products w/ ceremides to help w retaining moisture.

Nightly, I massage my nape with JBCO.
I'll put Megatek on my scalp every night or every other night.

I've been airdrying and bunning lately, which I'm starting to really like. I'm going to try rollersetting within the next week or so..

I also drink a fruit smoothie with chlorella, spirulina and other power foods daily.
I take hair, nail and skin vitamins daily.
I try to drink a lot of water daily (will get back on this ASAP).

i am currently using MegaTek but I am struggling to come up with a solid regimen. i want to incorporate a clarifying shampoo and a porosity control into my routine, so i wanted to know how often do you use this regimen? I know you use megatek every other night on your scalp, but how often do you wash with clarifying shampoo and use the PC? thanks!

I do my hair weekly. Sometimes, I cowash once in between. I think my hair likes to be done every 4 days, but I do at least weekly.

I use the porosity control after every wash (weekly) as the last step after rinsing out the DC.

The clarifying varies between 2 weeks-1month. It depends on how much product I had been using on my hair. I was trying to get rid of some moisturizers that had mineral oil in them, and I felt the build up quicker, and so I clarified after two weeks. But, generally once a month. Also, if I feel like my products aren't working, I clarify.

Good Evening ladies!!! Hope all is well!!!

**Alert Alert Alert**
This is a public service reminder:

Journal Entry:
Sat 1/16/2010

I have so far kept my reggie the same as my initial post. I'm currently 12 weeks post texlax and will be relaxing at 16 weeks.
I like keeping my reggie as easy as possible and have a few products that work. I'm all about the Wen Cleansing conditioners and have been using Fig. I just ordered Lavender, i've heard some really good things about it. I love love oils since i've finally learned how to effectively use them lol. My staples are 100% pure Argan oil, coconut oil, One and Only Argan Oil (for slip & smell) and EVOO.

I apply MT directly to the scalp without mixing it with anything. After I apply an oil like Argan or coconut oil for moisture. Once applied throughout I massage for about 30sec until I feel it beginning to tingle. So far it's hard for me to see the progress since I already have a lot of new growth since it's been 3 months since i've texlaxed.

I haven't had any issues with major shedding. The last time I washed and applied I lost less hair than usual. It could be the result of my garlic supplements, I now take on application days. But so far so good there hasn't been any major differences. I will be posting pics on the day I texlax and hopefully it will be more evident then.

This process has taught me that keeping my reggie the same as when I texlaxed every 8 weeks has helped me tremendously. When I did my 6 month stretch my first mistake was washing once a week. I thought the less I manipulated the better for my hair. Wrong, my hair likes being washed every 2-3 days no matter what. Now that i'm applying MT on wash days and part in smaller sections then detangle. It has helped me a lot in keeping my new growth tangle free. I also wish I had my Wen when I did my first stretch becuase that has also played a major part in keeping my hair moisturized and manageable. I know now the next 6 month stretch I do it will be a lot easier than my first. And I will be able to reap the benefits of the stretch instead of feeling like I need to cut off 3". So the positive is i'm learning even more about my new growth and how to manage it. :) *Sorry, so long ;) *

Journal entry for 1/15/10:

This week I have been kind of lazy, but I put my mixture of OCT/Biotin Creme/Castor oil on my scalp on Wednesday and Saturday. I am currently in extension braids and that makes it easier for me to reach my scalp. I am trying to stretch until March the earliest or April, I'll see how everything goes. I am currently 14 weeks right now, and this stretch will be my longest stretch.

I am not sure why but for some reason after I applied my OCT mix today my scalp was itching soooo much, normally that never happens before, So i dont understand. I'm going to watch out for that and see next time i use OCT if it will continue to itch that much.

But Apart from that everything is good. I didnt have to do much to my hair this week since I am in braids except getting to my scalp. So that keeps me motivated. We'll see how next week goes.

Journal Entry 1-16-10

My regimen has basically stayed the same except for adding another cheapie cowash (Vo5) and also deciding that I need to wash my hair 2x/week instead of only once. The Kenra MS is really gentle on my hair so I think it should be ok. I also have cut back on using the MT every night because my shedding was starting to kick up like no other. Normally, I really don't get that much shed hair beyond detangling. But I was getting noticeable shed, which was freaking me out. (I started using MT 12-27-09) So, I cut back to using every-other night and that has helped. I also have been taking an extra garlic pill every couple days.
The massage process I use to distribute the MT into my scalp seems to be helping with my growth, although I think it's too early to tell... But my scalp feels alive and kickin after the 5-10 min massage.

I am ordering some shea butter and avocado oil online and should be getting it soon. I am trying to see if I can get to using mostly simple and natural products because my hair LOVES coconut oil. If it doesn't work out for my hair, I will just use it for my skin.

Today I realized that the piece of hair I pre-tested before I relaxed the last time has broken off right in the middle! It's definitely not noticeable but it does scare me and is making me think twice about getting my next relaxer. I did my last one at home ( no-lye) in September and was planning on doing my next one in march. That was before I joined lhcf and came up on all this info... I am not going to trust myself to relax anymore so I'm going to my mom's hair dresser and will be using lye only in the future. But know that I found this breakage, idk.

Other than that, everything is going well.

Journal entry # 1 1/16/10

For this week I have tried using Ayurvedic Powders (AMLA, BRAMHI, SHIKAKAI) with garlic powder, honey, fenugreek powder and my hairveda DC. This was the craziest mix ever, after I rinsed it out after having it in for an hour my hair felt sooo soft!!
This is a must once a week!!
So being that it is the first week of this challenge, i don't have too much to report, except that because I am like 15 weeks post, my hair is B R E A K I N G really really malo (bad). So I will have to either put some big box braids in my hair or get the texturizer ASAP. This breakage is NO JOKE. so to retain my hair growth that I have I will be trying to decide!!
I love how BestBlackgirl has stated that her hair is in braids and it helps get to her scalp!! Thanks 4 the idea!!!

Hello Ladies!!!

Hope all is going well so far with your challenge!!!

The poll results r in, SO WE WILL BE POSTING OUR WEEKLY JOURNALS ON SATURDAY!!! YEA!! :dance7:

I can not wait cause ladies I have somethings to share!! Some juicy things!![/QUOTE]

What's the juicy things you have to share. I have actually been waiting to hear them:ohwell:

i'll be lurking in this thread! i just put braids in and have a bottle of barely used MT... i might be making some concoctions to spray on my scalp and this is giving me ideas... :)

subscribing! good luck with the challenge, ladies.

Sideliner checking in...

Regimen:

  • Wash hair once per week, and alternate types of conditioners that I use (protein or extra moisture, depending on what my hair is telling me.) Saturday night is now wash night.
  • I use a new L'Oreal sulfate-free shampoo and it's companion conditioner, both with ceramides to help with moisture.
  • Garlic pills to help with shedding internally.
  • MT on scalp Saturday (after the wash), Monday, and Thursday. I put MT on my scalp after a fresh wash because it seems like my pores will be more open to receive...
  • I also put aloe vera gel on my scalp after the MT.
  • Scalp massage for as long as a feel like it after applying the MT and AVG. I have done for as short as one minute and as long as 30 minutes while watching TV.
  • Multivitamin (chewable children's gummie bears...lol)
  • I stay in twists and will now be doing micro twists so I have low mani during the week.
I used MT in December as well (for a total of about 2 weeks). The end of the month, however, was too busy, and my regimen lagged a little. I am back on track now, though.

Sept., Nov. and Dec., 2009 comparison pics

Comparison.jpg

I can clearly see more thickness, and my hair hangs differently in the last pic

I am excited to see where MT will have us all for the Feb update!! I like the rules as well...and I have to admit I am glad I am a sideliner participant. I will probably do stretched length to show growth so I can avoid heat.

HHG to us all!!

Journal Entry 1/16/10

Today was wash day. Quickest I've ever washed my hair after a relaxer - 1 week. I wanted to DC on dry hair then shampoo, but my hair felt coated from the JBCO I sealed with in the middle of last night. So, I decided not to be lazy and shampoo first.

So, I pre-pood w Burt's Bee's Avocado, Shampooed with Infusium 23, did an Aphogee 2min treatment, then DC'd w a mixture of AO HSR (cut the bottle open to get the last of it, Motions Moisture Plus (don't really like, so trying to use up by adding a little w other things), and Phillip B. I also mixed in EVOO and Honey. The results were awesome. I will always put EVOO and honey in my DCs. My hair felt wonderful.

Then, rinsed with Porosity Control. Leave-ins: Matrix Biolage Fortitherapie and Salerm 21. And for the first time ever, I rollerset my own hair watching Macherieamore's DVD. I'm so proud of myself.

This week, I put Megatek on my scalp using an applicator bottle on Weds and Fri. Since I had a fresh relaxer last Saturday, I didn't want to put anything on my hair too soon. I also massaged my nape and edges those days too. Next week I'll shoot for every other day for both.

Journal Entry 1/16/10

Every night I have been baggying my hair with moisturizer then oil. I put the Megatek in an applicator bottle to make it easier to apply I also diluted it maybe 10%. So 90% Megatek and 10% aloe vera juice in the bottle. Every other day I apply the megatek to my scalp after cowashing. Then go about my normal routine. I still cowash daily though.

Normal routine after cowashing (megatek applied every other day) is to apply a water based leave in, then a heavy leave in then an oil product.

Ladies I am feeling very optimistic about this hopefully next week my journal won't be so bland. I am just trying to keep it simple. :)

Journal Entry 1.16.10

This week was a low key week for my hair, as every week will be.
On Wednesday I cowashed my hair with Herbal Essence Hello Hydration. I love that stuff. I laso use it as a semi-moisturizer during the week. I take a dab of that and some coconut oil and run that quickly through my hair. Since I condition 2x per week I find that I really don't need to moisturize daily. I just dip my fingers in a bit of coconut oil if things seem dry. I also use castor oil on my ends.
Every night I plait my hair and use a silk scarf. I was doing this on and off in the past but now I realize this is imperative.
Tonight I used Chocolacio to DC and I will wash it out in the morning (I usually DC overnight to save time)

This week I will probably be picking up more DC (can't resist the urge) and I will get a spray bottle (I basically DC on dry hair but I like to spray so water on it a bit to dampen it)

I have been using my castor oil and megatek every night. I have also come to the end of the two week use of steriod cream on my alopecia spot..I will go two weeks off before I start another two week round
