Lawd Jesus, Im bout to give this man some RIGHT NOW!!!

I thought what he said was cute, not PC but still cute. I think some of us may be splitting hair a lil too much. :ohwell: I wonder if the brothers would have had their boxers in a bunch if the same list had been made by a black woman talking about why she dates black men. I think they would have loved it...

Welp, I can only speak for myself... but I would have rolled my eyes at the woman too.

In fact, I think I've made a few posts on here about how I'm about tired of the black-men-are-kangs "poetry" that black women put out!

But in general, it's not that serious, really. I think my only real concern was that the OP was giving this man and his character a few too many props for an Internet post. I'd rather see her making the judgments on his behavior toward her.

Also, I hope that black women in general aren't so thirsty for "positive" comments from black men that they fall for any dude who spits some "I love black women" verbal/written words.

That's all.

Well, maybe she got turned on by his prose. Anyhoo, I agree that OP should continue to exercise caution and not base her entire opinion of him on this. Actions should always speak louder than words. :yep:

Now THAT part in bold could very well be the case, lol! :)

It was kinda hot in some parts... ;)

.
yeah..I hear ya.....then...that's very different

nobody should get a free pass! who says he is?
I just think there is an overeaction .....
to his attempts to do something kind of cool
but that's fine..I still think the lines are split
racially in terms of romantic preferences

I mean ..wow....he's not burning buildings and picketing
this is a MED student ..LOL

yup. the post reads......
as I already said..I still stand by that
My sentiments exactly! Dang! You'd think his name was Osama Bin Laden :lachen::lachen::lachen:! Is it?!?! Seriously though, with matters as simple and well-intended as it appears this was, it might be better to just relax and leave all of the mental gymnastics to matters that would be worthy of it.

No need really to critically pick this apart, especially since it was done in the context of an interracial thread where whites were spewing harsh words about blacks. Sounds like the brotha's intentions should far outweigh "political correctedness" and "scientific soundness," especially in a culture where we're constantly under attack, even by our own.

That's how I saw it. I assumed this was a young guy saying young boy stuff. Certainly not a reason to give him some, but nothing wrong with him expressing himself. I don't think many young black men get put in a position where they have to defend their women, so it all seemed like a bunch of rambling to me. He loves his women, and said what first came to mind. I've come across threads in other forums that turn into black women bash fests, and among the trash spewed against black women, this would actually come off as one of the more intelligent testimonies--says alot. Now I see where the fault lies, but a well thought out response as to why he loves black women won't get any point across in anti-black women internet land. I've stumbled there--and it ain't pretty.:nono:

 I really thought this thread was about something else entirely. We should start a thread for those that need to resist temptation... :giggle:

So Ive been dating this guy for about a month. Things are great, so far.

There's a message board that he goes on which I also read sometimes. Or you can call it stalking him, whatever! lol

There was a thread posted which was about interracial dating and here's what he said:

"Let me start by saying that adults should date those with whom they feel most compatible.

Why I date Black women:

1. When I have children I want them to have more melanin, not less. Melanin is an asset, protecting against the sun.

2. African genetic heritage makes for a stronger PINEAL GLAND.. This is part of the limbic system which facilitates EMOTIONAL (spiritual) CONNECTEDNESS... that's why Blacks can dance so well and how we are able to communicate without talking (if you don't know what I'm talking about, spend more time around Blacks)

3. Brown skin is sexy in an almost primal way. You know the feeling you get when a brown girl takes her clothes off and you see ALL THAT BROWN SKIN... OMG... I live for that!

4. Black women have rhythm, which also makes for better love-making.

5. Black women are culturally compatible with me... So they can see my perspective more naturally. There are some things that ONLY A BLACK WOMAN CAN UNDERSTAND.

6. Black women are feared by other women. As a man its socially unacceptable for me to publicly check a white ***** flight attendant or inattentive waitress... In those situations its good to have a BLACK WOMAN next to me... The mere sight of my woman will command respect.... I speak from experience.

7. A Black couple is a powerful force... its like Voltron, we are greater than the sum of our parts when we connect... (look up Voltron if you're unfamiliar... my playas know what I'm talking about)

But, like I said... Do you.. This is just MY testimony!"

Jesus...im about to give him some tonight! (Im really Just Joking)

But its really nice to see that there are brothas out there who still date black women. It's very rare in the part of Texas that im in. Ive seen 2 black couples this year. Im serious!

Oh my goodness! I thought you were serious and it sounded like fornication. I come in running about to give my encouragement to "fight the good fight" and "stay strong girl!" :drunk:

girl I like that he sounds smart..but Like the ladies said.."Where are you living?..Two couples the whole year???/WHAT?lol

i think its cute...given that he wasnt trying to write an academic essay to justify why he loves black women to expect him to put forth scientific/empirical arguments is nonsensical.

Its a personal testimony of what he finds endearing in black women - i didnt read it as more than that, it didnt rock my world but it made me smile...if black women attack the very men that try to defend them is it really a wonder that maybe they just stop trying and give up...like he says do you, you dont have to like what he says but i am not sure why ppl would take offence if they know what his intentions were regardless of how ineptly he may have executed them - JMO

I don't think anyone is attacking him. He has a right to his opinion and we have the right to ours. His reasons for his love of black women lean heavily on sterotypes and some of them are not very flattering in my opinion. Being great dancers, a great lay, and other races being scared of angry black are not great reasons, in my opinion, to love black women.

LOL. Im sorry I havent responded, just been a little busy.

I did say I was just joking about givin up the drawls right?

It aint that easy and he DOES need to come harder than this.

However, I appreciated it. His reasons might be a little lackluster to some people and I can understand why. But it just gave me hope again that some black men like and prefer black women.

Gotta go, again!

I agree with what you are saying but objectively speaking love has no empirical basis and is based on emotions which lend themselves to being stereotypical...if he hadnt used the above ie great dancers, a great lay, and other races being scared what could he have used that would have been good enough if it was taken empirically...

ie we're strong? (stereotypical)...beautiful(yawn...)..clever(no empiriacl basis and racially superior)

i guess maybe as black women we're not used to men takin up for us and when it happens you either expect it to be phenomenal and worthy of our greatness or just respect the intention and spirit which it was done in regardless of how clumsy you think the execution is given how few black men do it!

He could taken up for black women without objectifying them. How about saying black women make good companions, are loyal and supportive, and we know how to appreciate a black man. Also true, but so much deeper than what was stated. His defense was weak and based on negative sterotypes. Like I said before, I am older (over thirty) and it takes alot more than that for me to be singing praises. He gets an E for effort but fails on his reasoning and presentation. And for him to be in med school I would expect that he would have little trouble expressing himself -no he said what he meant. How can we expect men to stop objectifying us if we praise them for doing so so long as it is "in our defense"?

I'm sure most of us know the following poem, one of the most notorized & respected poems ever written. Does it not ring of the same sentiments expressed by OP's friend?? I mean if Maya Angelou can "generalize us" and we call ourselves "phenomenal" based on said poem which is partly based on some of our attributes- why is it that black men(specifically this black man) get criticized for respecting & doing the same??

Finding fault in what he said is kinda strange to me. Characteristics are great like loyalty & such but sometimes what some would consider to be mundane is what others find to be so very beautiful. The phenomenal woman as written by Maya Angelou touches on both. Some people just need to learn how to take compliment.... geez!!!

PHENOMENAL WOMAN
by Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing of my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them,
They say they still can't see.
I say
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
The palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
