Kimmay's flat ironed pic

I think, like some of the women on this board, she has soley focused on length retention and not aesthetics. B/c of her business and how public she is I do think that she should have held off on this kind of "big reveal" until june so that she could work on her edges, end, etc. Then again, she wanted to prove like Cathy Howse that 1 year= 6 inches. If ur familiar with the cover of Cathy's book her ends were rather thin too. :look:

Maybe this year she'll work on the stuff you mention since she said this was her goal length.

Your mother's reaction is mine. I heard of Kimmaytube only in the past few weeks, after endless threads on her were created here. I ran over to her youtube to see what the hype was about only to find a woman with thin ends, sparse edges, and hair that looked as rough as mine did back when my hair was at its worst because I was abusing it with heat. I do understand that many women here have never had long hair, so any long hair will appeal to them. The fact is, however, that Kimmaytube needs to progress to the next step of her hair journey. Longhairdontcare2011 is someone who gets this next step and we see the difference in the two's hair. That step involves doing more than just holding on for dear life (and publicity) to every single inch and requires actually paying attention to more complex milestones such as thick ends, full edges, ridding oneself of layers that came about due to breakage. Yes, I said breakage. Regardless of what she might say, Kimmaytube's sparse ends speak of breakage. Not all breakage prevents one from reaching hair length goals; medium amounts of breakage just create stringy ends.

My hair looked like Kimmaytube's almost three years after I went natural. Rather than thinking I had something amazing, I saw that I still had work to do. I held my hair at the same length for about a year, trimming 1/2" every month until my hair was thick from root to tip and every single layer hit midback length. Then I grew it out more. Right now, the very back of Kimmaytube's hair might be midback (she's not waist regardless of what she says), but I wouldn't be surprised if her crown is only armpit length, thus contributing to the thin ends that we see now. All of this might be blasphemy to those who care about length and length only, but Kimmaytube is going to need a lot more work to impress those who know the difference between hair like hers and hair like Longhairdontcare2011's, for instance.

I hope people understand now why some of us are just not impressed. Even if she was sweet and bubbly, I still would say the same thing.

It looks like she pushed all her hair to the front so girlie what you see is what you get:look::look:

She always does this. Parts in the middle, and let her sides hang to the front. Same thing with the blow out. She particularly loves stretching that back tail of hers, even though most of her other sections are considerably shorter than the tail.

Overall, its nothing impressive.

Absolutely! I'm sure she's read this and other boards/ blogs to be educated. When I said "as part of an online community," I meant as an active/ participating poster.

Got it. She did not have to be one all she had to do was a search many questions have been asked and answered by many here

I think her hair looks nice flatironed. Very pretty, thick looking and healthy. At least there's a pic so we know it actually happened. Now a video, that's another story...

Well, my hair is nearly hip length, so no excuses needed here, yet I still say torso length matters because I see the difference in torsos between, for instance, my sister and myself (there is a nearly 5" height difference). Just because you don't agree doesn't mean that people who point out what should be obvious to anyone are making excuses.

Waist length is 30" for me. Most women who mark waist length don't have anything near that length of hair. So, when a woman for whom waist length is 22" says that she reached it in x number of years, does that mean much to me and my hair journey? No.

Do you mean 30" from front hairline to waist length? That's about my measurement, too, and I'm 5'2.5". Most people's front hairline to waist length measurements are 28"-32". Height difference isn't always in the torso, it's frequently in the legs. My legs are short. :( Over on LHC, that is the normal way to measure hair, so it's easier to get an idea of the average length to waist length:

Anyway, from what I can tell from the picture, her hair looks nice. That's a pretty good job for doing it yourself and for hair that had never been straightened before. It's quite long. It looks waist length.

But she is definitely playing folks in the buildup. She got us hooked and adding to her pockets. It's kind of funny, actually.

Near 100% retention per year is 'unimpressive', y'all are funny :lachen:.

I guess most of LHCF (me included) needs to stop posting their yearly updates, swanging their hair like they did something, in that case.

I just woke up! I can always count on LHCF to give me some entertainment in the AM since I'm 3 hrs behind most folks.

And thank you! :drunk:

Just my 2 cents on Kim...I don't think her hair looks bad at all, and I can understand it not being silky straight and swanging. I've only flat ironed my hair a couple of times and I can't get it to swang for the life of me, because I won't use a high heat and my hair is coarse and starts reverting/poofing out basically as soon as I get finished. I've never even worn it out flat iron, because it starts growing it and it is BIG. If you look at my siggy I took that pic almost as soon as I was finished flat ironing and it was already almost as big as the width of my shoulders. So since she never straightens and did it herself, that's about right.

Her growth is average and she has great retention; I think a lot of women are impressed because they have trouble growing their hair past a certain length, and it's inspirational to see someone get there. However, the women who are not impressed are certainly not hating...if you see someone do something that you have already done or that you know you can do you're not going to be like...

...and there is nothing wrong with that either.

That right there is the truth. Granted there are few things that I am personally not impressed with her as far as her hair, but there is also her discipline and focus to get to her goal length that is certainly admirable.

She seems to be a go getter and someone who is on top of her finances, health, nutrition and business. It's that tenacity that attracts more people to her channel. When she does a video, you can't help but notice her toned body, the organization in her home, the editing skills of her videos and more. It's very admirable and inspiring. I just don't let that blur any blips (kimmaytude) that I notice about her. I give credit where it's due but if there is a side of negatives I will say something about that too.

 I LOVE THAT! that's cute... and kinda fitting

that's her new name:yep::yep::yep:

How many people saying she's hyping it up are subscribed to her?

I would not know anything about her flat ironing video/lack of one, if it wasn't for the members of this board that keep posting about it. I don't see her hyping it anywhere.

both sides go so hard it's scary...y'all about as worse as that other forum with talking about folks smh

wow i must have advanced short waistedness...Or I am doing my measurements wrong.
There's people in that thread claiming to be 5'2 with a short waist and they have a 30 in measurment :perplexed
I am 5'5 with a short waist and my measurement is 21 in. :nono:

Was her main focus on retaining length or overall health because I've seen plenty of ladies on here and youtube who have retained length while keeping their hair healthy but people seem to go hard for her. Im not hating just wondering what's so different about her.

Nice length. I am fanatical about ends so I really want her to get a trim. As far as the lack of bone straight hair from a flat iron, I can't talk. I can't get this mess bone straight for my life. I need professional help. I kinda like hair with texture though.

I still confused why the constant comparison of her hair to longhairdontcare? The latter obviously has naturally really super thick hair and kimmay does not.

Not everyone can/will have hair like lhdc2011. Some people have naturally thinner hair and thin strands. I know some people who say " When my hair grows up, I want my hair to be exactly like X" when in fact (sometimes) it won't be genetically possible. We should strive to have hair that is as healthy as possible.

With that said, Kim hair looks alright. She could use a trim though.

lol am i the only one that thought the pic of kimmay was a photoshop and about to get mad

I didn't photoshop it. All I did was blow it up and take off the sides...same pic. It's on her u2.

I'm kind of disappointed. She waited a while to show us flat ironed hair through a picture (not a video) and then the results are quite mediocre and not as good as it being professionally done. Nonetheless, her hair is still quite a surprise seeing as how many females on this board thought her hair would be thin. Looks thick to ME and healthy.

Her main focus was both. Healthy hair is hair that can retain length. And she did it through facts and informative videos that actually had proof. Most youtubers can easily say a certain conditioner is the ish because of this and that but they don't have any facts to prove it, no government websites or ph testing or anything. I believe that's why people do go hard for her. She backs it up easily.

Her u2?? You mean short for youTUBE? YT? you too? :lachen:

Her hair looks fine to me. She mustn't feel a way about her edges, in fact she was up in the camera in her flat iron video inviting all of us near and far to look at it lol. I honestly think they're naturally that way...

I know techniques that have worked for many who thinned their edges out with mistreatment...but is it possible to change what you're born with (sorta like thickening up thin strands and I don't mean with henna...it seems almost impossible)

Does her hair REALLY look as bad as some say or is it just this miraculous expectation many had? It looks thicker than I thought it would (yeah, I know someone mentioned all was pushed over her shoulders) and it's a great length. She could use a trim for the unevenness factor but they don't look unhealthy to me.
