Kimmay's flat ironed pic

Well, my hair is nearly hip length, so no excuses needed here, yet I still say torso length matters because I see the difference in torsos between, for instance, my sister and myself (there is a nearly 5" height difference). Just because you don't agree doesn't mean that people who point out what should be obvious to anyone are making excuses.

Waist length is 30" for me. Most women who mark waist length don't have anything near that length of hair. So, when a woman for whom waist length is 22" says that she reached it in x number of years, does that mean much to me and my hair journey? No.

i just measured.. i'm 29.5 or 29.75 from crown to waist......

but actually,
these days the problem is i don't have much of a waist:ohwell:

You know whats funny, i showed my mom her hair(yt video) and this was her face..:droolings...She asked me why was her hair so thin!? All i could say was "Well they said she knows what shes doing":lachen::ohwell:
Your mother's reaction is mine. I heard of Kimmaytube only in the past few weeks, after endless threads on her were created here. I ran over to her youtube to see what the hype was about only to find a woman with thin ends, sparse edges, and hair that looked as rough as mine did back when my hair was at its worst because I was abusing it with heat. I do understand that many women here have never had long hair, so any long hair will appeal to them. The fact is, however, that Kimmaytube needs to progress to the next step of her hair journey. Longhairdontcare2011 is someone who gets this next step and we see the difference in the two's hair. That step involves doing more than just holding on for dear life (and publicity) to every single inch and requires actually paying attention to more complex milestones such as thick ends, full edges, ridding oneself of layers that came about due to breakage. Yes, I said breakage. Regardless of what she might say, Kimmaytube's sparse ends speak of breakage. Not all breakage prevents one from reaching hair length goals; medium amounts of breakage just create stringy ends.

My hair looked like Kimmaytube's almost three years after I went natural. Rather than thinking I had something amazing, I saw that I still had work to do. I held my hair at the same length for about a year, trimming 1/2" every month until my hair was thick from root to tip and every single layer hit midback length. Then I grew it out more. Right now, the very back of Kimmaytube's hair might be midback (she's not waist regardless of what she says), but I wouldn't be surprised if her crown is only armpit length, thus contributing to the thin ends that we see now. All of this might be blasphemy to those who care about length and length only, but Kimmaytube is going to need a lot more work to impress those who know the difference between hair like hers and hair like Longhairdontcare2011's, for instance.

I hope people understand now why some of us are just not impressed. Even if she was sweet and bubbly, I still would say the same thing.

Kimmaytube's personality does not faze me, I do not find her hair impressive at all. I understand that she is inspirational to those who apparently watched her grow her hair out from very short to a decent length, but the wispy condition of her ends, her sparse edges, and the overall state of her hair leave much to be desired. Longhairdontcare2011's hair is gorgeous, but Kimmaytube? To each her own.
ITA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey hair is a nice length. I actually want my hair to be just that length. But I agree with everyone about the hype. LongHairDontCare and Mwedzi run circles around her and they did give any warning when they posted their gorgeous pics

Very honest opinion. The thing is with the Kimmaytube threads, when anyone critiques her hair certain individuals see it as hateration. It's like you can't say all the things that are not necessarily progress (i.e the noticeably thin edges and more) without someone playing the hater card. When you also express how you are not impressed with her hair or attitude or techniques, you are flashed the card again. It's like wow? :ohwell:

This right here!!! I sometimes wonder if her efforts/ practices are being negated (by some) because she did it on her own and not as part of an online community.

Kimmay seems to have retained damn near every millimeter of hair she's grown in the past 2 years or so. How many of us have hair that's 12" longer than where we were 2 years ago? And before I get called a KT groupie, I actually unsubscribed to her after the whole Taren/ Afr.Export drama, however I can still be objective and applaud her for the progress she's made with her hair.

I'll continue to be inspired on my own.

She did use something, she has read books and I firmly believe she is a member here and if not here she has said she has read some different blogs. She just keeps it very simple, just wash condition detangle and protective style and moisturize. She may not post but she has utilized some of the same techniques we use.

I saw one of her videos the other day in which she said she read Chicoro's book and also Cathy Howse (?)--from Cathy Howse she learned about Ph balance--this is when she went from just wanting to learn to style her natural hair to actually growing it long.

:yep::yep: She has been supected of having an account here or at least blood relatives or paid assistants.

Not hopping on a I love KT bandwagon or anything, but I can't understand why people keep talking about her edges. Is there not such a thing as having naturally thin edges??

Yes! It is possible. My mom as them and she does not wear any sort of tension styles that would tug on her hair.

We know the KT takes damn good care of her hair, so her edges are not damaged by any means, Maybe what you seeing is what she was born with.

I personally don't see her edges to be a problem.

Commenting on things that she can't change or have nothing to do with is pointless. IJS

People are just trying to silence the dissent by trotting out that most dreaded and unforgivable of Black People's sins: "Hating". I also think that many are threatened by criticism of Kimmaytube because they can't achieve even Kimmaytube's rather unimpressive head of hair. So, when people come and criticize what Kimmay's supporters can't even achieve, the claws come out. :look:

What are you talking about? Did you even read what I said? I said commenting on someone's HEIGHT is ridiculous when you do not know their MEASUREMENTS....so basically what you just did was validify what I said...and included your measurements....:perplexed Just because someone is short does not mean they dont have just as long a torso as you (in the general sense) do. They may just have really short legs. I really don't understand your argument.

:look: That's quite some emotion over measurements there. Are you feeling ok? Maybe you should go lay down for a while.

It looks okay. I think my expectations were too high because of all the buildup and hype leading up to to the flat iron reveal. Then again LHCF expectations are usually higher than the everyday commoners. With the Renieces, Mwedzis, LHDC2011s, Auburns, Brittanynics, BlackMasterpieces, Creolefoxes, Pinkskates, zzirvingjs, tberry2688s and more (please give me a moment to catch my breath, their hair is gorgeous...:lick:), we are used to phenomenal flat iron results. I'm sure once she improves her technique and probably does it more, the jobs will hopefully look betterIMO.
I think she should give Reniece a call, share the limelight a little. She can make a 15 minute video just swanging that hair:yep:

P.S I wonder why she removed the natural hair guru banner next to her name?

Because she is not a guru and has caught much grief for using this term

*sigh* Length in torsos varies but it's only in a few inches. There are tall people who have short torsos, short people who have long torsos and vise versa. Height is mostly in the length of you femur bone not in your torso. Yes, someone who is 5'0 will make it to BSB faster than someone who is 6'0 but really its not much of a difference.

Thanks for your professional recommendation. I appreciate it:yep:
No one can ever accuse me of not caring about black women's wellbeing. :look:

I see your point and maybe her edges really are naturally sparse. In my experience, naturally sparse edges are uncommon, however. Most women I have come across with sparse edges have been able to thicken their edges with a change in technique.

My hair looked like that when I would straighten it. My roommate would tell me my hair wasn't straight and I'd be all "whaaaaat?"

EllePixie! I was wondering where you were. BTW, I love the new avatar pic, absolutely gorg!

I just woke up! I can always count on LHCF to give me some entertainment in the AM since I'm 3 hrs behind most folks.

And thank you! :drunk:

Just my 2 cents on Kim...I don't think her hair looks bad at all, and I can understand it not being silky straight and swanging. I've only flat ironed my hair a couple of times and I can't get it to swang for the life of me, because I won't use a high heat and my hair is coarse and starts reverting/poofing out basically as soon as I get finished. I've never even worn it out flat iron, because it starts growing it and it is BIG. If you look at my siggy I took that pic almost as soon as I was finished flat ironing and it was already almost as big as the width of my shoulders. So since she never straightens and did it herself, that's about right.

Her growth is average and she has great retention; I think a lot of women are impressed because they have trouble growing their hair past a certain length, and it's inspirational to see someone get there. However, the women who are not impressed are certainly not hating...if you see someone do something that you have already done or that you know you can do you're not going to be like...

...and there is nothing wrong with that either.

Absolutely! I'm sure she's read this and other boards/ blogs to be educated. When I said "as part of an online community," I meant as an active/ participating poster.

IMHO I think her hair looks fine for it to be her first time. It took a few tries for me to a flatiron looking like I stepped out of the salon on a completley natural head. I have done it 3x on my daughter and 2x on a friend of mine and I finally got it right by the fifth time. Its all about technique.

I hope she considers getting a small 1/2 inch trim.

Many naturals dont think they need it but a small one at least 2x a year is okay even if no heat is used. I did not think I did but when I went in to have mine done while natural my hair behaved better. I only had an 1/2-1 inch taken off each time but that little bit made all my products work so much better.
