Well I am starting off great...I know its only one day into the new year...but the Surge thing is going to be key to making sure I get 12 by 12 (December that is)

I am so excited....but quick question...how do we keep up with the results?
 
I'm in...Might as well shoot for the moon. Even if I fall, I'm still among the stars!

12"... that would put me past my goal! When I first transitioned my hair was growing soooo fast butI don't know whats been happening lately... I was gonna limit myself to 6" but what the hey, I'll aim for the 12"!!!

Even if I don't get another 12" at least my hair will be looking healthy with the amount of care I plan to put into it and my general health

I'm in. I'm also transitioning like many others (decided to a couple of weeks ago). I am not sure of my growth rate though so I'm gonna have to start keeping track. Right now the longest part is about 4 inches but I have to do the big chop, so I'm really starting from scratch (just got a relaxer 2 weeks ago). Wish me luck and good luck to all of you!

your hair is nice and fluffy and thick, and it has a nice sheen to it. Like DelightfulFlame you have pics that made me wish I chopped instead of transitioned!
 
Can we work together? I'd like to achieve at least 12 by December as well. I'm at about 8 inches, maybe more depending on shrinkage.
 
This is not the same as "12 inches in 12 months" challenge?

Am I in the wrong challenge...I definitely want to grow 12 inches by December...and I am in the Surge challenge too.
 
Good luck! My goal for my natural hair right now is to be able to do a puff by my big chop anniversary. I'm not sure how many inches I would have. I imagine I can get 6 or 7 by then I hope. I haven't thought as far as December. Maybe I can have around 8 to 9 inches by then. Of course this is all when my hair is streched.
 
I all in. And on behalf of my daughter and my mother, I accept the challenge. My mother has the most serious issue. Her has abused her hair for decades. I remember her leaving relaxers in her hair for TWO HOURS! And no, she didn't burn. She fell in love with braids and had them in for 8 months. She took them out yesterday and ALOT of her hair come out with it. She has severe breakage and even small bald patches. I asked her how she had been taking care of her hair and she told me she had been keeping it washed. I asked if she kept it conditioned. She said sometimes. I asked what she was using, she said oh whatever I have at home. Well, what she has at home is conditioner she bought at the Dollar Tree. So my gift to her is a headful of soft, shiny type 2c curls. As for my daughter and I ( both type 4b/c) we are ready for something different. Well, at least I am and since she is 8 years old and I am the one who is responsible for her hair, she will be natural. I thought that I wouldn't be able to take care of our hair in its natural state, but after reading about what you all do, it seems like I could handle it. We are looking forward to our 36 inches of strong, luxurious volumes of natural hair.

Hi Everybody!
This is my first post. I thought this was as good a place as any other to get started. I've been "lurking" for about six months I think.
Anyway, I have about 6 inches of natural hair, so I guess it's reasonable to expect a total of 12 inches by the end of 2004 (not 12 additional inches, just 12 altogether), especially since I finally know what I'm doing.
My hair is healthier and happier, and has accumulated more length in the last year of being natural than in all my 19 years of perming, so I know I am on the right track.
I won't be measuring every month--maybe every three months (just before I trim--gotta trim!)

I've got an inch so far in some places (edges, top for example). So, 1/2 - 1 inch...that's how it appears (I'm in braids).
So far, so good!
