I've done braid extensions before. Never had a weave or wig.

Honestly, the more I research, the more I see that hair additions has ancestrals roots in every culture. One of my books from college has pics of wigs and extensions fashioned from different fibers and worn my ancient Egyptians/Nubians.

I used to be soooooo dead set against even having braid extensions that I have to chuckle everytime I'm braiding like a pro! I don't see weave, wig, and extension wearing as a symptom of some deeper issue in the Black female collective.

Just my thoughts,

I have never worn any either except a phony pony if that counts. I think my head would be too hot. lol Ive wanted to try it but knowing myself i would probably take it out after a couple of days.

same for me. Only a drawstring pony.

I was just wondering how many here has never worn a weave. I know alot of women feel as if a weave is just another hair style option. I am just trying to see if I am the minority here.

You can vote for more than one item/option in the poll also.

I've never worn a weave before. Once I had my hair braided and the lady suggested to try some synthetic hair due to my thin hair...i ended up taking it out. Just not me...

I agree. Even once my hair grows out, I'm sure I'll still be a weavie. I like to change my styles up often. I just like having different looks.

the only time i wore fake hair, it was a weave that i only left in for a month cause i hate fake hair! no wigs, weaves, or phony ponies for me. i don't even do cornrows.

I have worn it all ponytails weaves and wigs. Even when my hair was BSL. Why? Cause why not, Why should I destroy my hair with dyes and heat and chemicals when i can destroy a horses instead? Also my hair is usually corn rowed under my weaves and usually grows a great deal. Plus I'm from Philadelphia one of the weave capitols of the us. EVERYBODY WEARS WEAVES! Only now am I noticing a trend back to natural. I use to fell it was a badge of honor to say I had never had any "fake" hair in my head (when I was like 10) now I love snaching my wig off and having longer hair underneath than the wig. Wanna piss off the haters? try it:)

   I did that two times... once for my Aunt and she was like "oh... I like your length" and once for a few close friends and they were like "why don't you wear your own hair?"...

I'm like "If I bought it it IS my own hair"

I have never had a weave , braided exstensions or phony ponies in my hair. I think it is really pretty on some people and I am amazed at how it changes or glamourizes some peoples looks like Robin Givens who is a totally different looking person with a weave and without one. I do not think my hair can take it though and I like to wash and play in my hair too much.
I am glad they came along though because now everyone can have instant long hair or a different look if they want it. I heard some young ladies say it is just the style now.

I have never worn a weave before, but I did get braid extensions for the first time last April to help with growing out my perm. I actually like them and I didn't feel funny wearing them. But I do think I would feel a little weird if I wore a weave or wig. I just wouldn't be used to it.

I never wore weave or any fake hair. I did try...but I could not step outside with it so I threw away. It looked too fake to me...and I notice it, so I thought that other would too.

It was some kind of hair schrunchy thing that you tie into your hair like a schrunchy. If I could noy do that I know that I can't wear a weave or a wig.

It was horrible. I kept wondering how could someone were this!

It's like a schrunchy. It was too much fake hair for me. I was wishing that it was thinner or smaller...then maybe could worn it.

The reason I trash it is because I hacked down to ugliness trying to thin it out.

HAHAHA :lachen: Can't wait til I get out of this TWA stage so I can do that lol

I haven't had extensions in about 4 years. Before that I had them one other time about 3 years before that. I JUST started wearing phony ponies this past Spring. I've never worn a weave/wig.

Yea, Philly is definately the Weave Capitol. I never seen so much fake hair in my life.

I've never worn a wig, but I did have a weave track once for about 1 hour. I took it out because it didn't feel right, that was more 13 years ago. My husband don't like fake hair so it's not an option now. I bought a phony pony last year and took it back because the DH hated it.

I've never worn a wig or weave and I don't think I ever will. They just aren't me. I wore braid extensions for several months about 10 years ago.

I've never had any artificial hair in my head EVER. It's just not for me...the idea of it repulses me, and I *know* that I wouldn't want to fuss with it. I don't even like doing all of MY hair sometimes so I know I'd be ready to toss a wig or a phony pony. I've reached all of my hair goals and then some without the assistance of any fake hair so I don't see a reason to start now.

I think they look great on other people, and I say more power to the folks who can use them to their advantage i.e. protective styles, etc.

I have never worn a weave. I did have braid extensions a few times as a kid. I would like to try a phony pony though. I think they are really cute.;)

On one hand......lets see

Actual weave glued in, first and last time, lost lots of own hair 1995
First braids w/ extensions, Poetic Justice (Janet Jackson style) 1994
Professionally done braids, down my back, 1996
Braids, shoulder length 1997, 1998

Those are all major weaving events in my lifetime....
I tried to make my own bun with fake hair in 2000, trying to come up with a protective style:cool: but that was short lived:eek: :D

I'm thinking about cornrows with extensions as my alternative style when I wash my hair. As you can see, braids is about the closest I'll come to wearing "fake hair".

the only way I'll even think of wearing a wig on the regular is if by some horrible event, I lose all of my own hair!

I have done braid extensions twice in my life and that was enough for me. Fake hair has always given my the creepies whenever I had to go to the BSS.

I have never worn a weave or extentions. I may be going to Africa for three weeks this summer. I am thinking about getting braid extentions to protect my own hair while I am there. I will research the forum when that time comes because I have no idea where to start or what to do!

OT...Ambitious: I LOVE looking at your progress pics. If that doesn't inspire folks, I don't know what will.

I have never worn a weave but I have had braid extensions before. That's about as far as I can go, and I don't think I'll be doing it again actually.

I just got my first weave ever and I love it! It's giving me the much needed break from doing my hair everyday and still managing to look cute. Don't knock it before you try it.
