did this happen to anyone else-
when i went natural, i had been wearing braids for a year straight or so and before that i had a perm. ( i wore braids for about four years with the occasional perm in between) i never did a "big chop", all my permed parts ( about 7-8 inches ) just reverted. so when i was first natural, i had alot of hair! i havent really heard of this happening to anyone else. i thought it might help transitioners who are scared to chop.

THat happened to me- when I first started wearing braids, it was because I was sick of dealing with the hassle of a relaxer. When I finally decided to go without the braids a couple years later, my relaxed parts were clearly no longer relaxed and there was no evidence they ever were. I relaxed right after that, and all the women in the salon were in AWE of the length and luster of my hair- almost brastrap, I'd say. Once again, though, I couldn't stand what I felt was drudgery and being a slave to my hair every day, so the braids went back in, and stayed in that style for about 4-5 years, When I took them out and kept my own hair free, I was past bra strap, WITHOUT a good press, just hitting it with a regular curling iron. I was so surprised, I decided to leave it out for a while-did a few trims over the course of a few months, but have never been tempted to go through the day-to-day hair drama associated (for me) with relaxed hair. If I don't press (when not braided, obviously), I just wash and go, some days it curls real pretty, somedays it kinks, some days it does some weird combo of both- and I'm fine with it because I dig the ease of it, but there is no sign I ever had a relaxer, all the way to the ends.
