I am afraid to up my protein intake. I've noticed several side effects while taking about 30 g of protein. My body gets very hot, lost weight (good), sore scalp, longer lighter cycle, and it clears up constipation almost to the other extreme. Does anyone else have these side effects?

Maybe I should added 1-2 eggs a day to the whey shake, which would give me about 42 gr. I should be taking about 72g a day but I might catch on fire. LOL

Those are some interesting side effects.:scratchch Is most of your protein coming from dairy sources (incl. whey protein)? Do other dairy products effect you the same way? I'm inclined to believe that maybe your body just doesn't like whey protein for some reason. I don't believe I've heard of high protein affecting the menstrual cycle (but I'm looking it up right now:) ).

I had to modify my high protein diet. It had my insides twisted and I can't have that. I purchased some digestive enzymes to help me process the additional protein. You gotta balance a high protein diet w/ lots of fiber & fluids. (I'm sure someone has said this but I didn't read all the pages)

Good point about the digestive enzymes! I personally don't take them often (only when I eat something bad for me, LOL), but they can help. gn1g, perhaps you should try some of these. You can easily find them at any vitamin/health food store. You take one or two capsules before your high-protein meal. Your symptoms might be due to the fact that your body isn't properly digesting the protein.

this has helped me tremendously. I take the super digestive enzymes from GNC specially formulated for high protein, high carbohydrate, & high fat diets. Two pills after your meal. Plus, I add benefiber to everything I cook. This helped me adjust to the high protein diet. HTHs

Hi ladies!

I am still getting my groove on with the high protein. Hope everyone is sticking to this challenge! I defintely think that my hair is reaping the benefits of incresed protein intake!

I always take digestive enzymes.

I take the whey protein, I am thinking about Naturades mile and egg protein.

A word of caution:

I read on the internet that taking digestive enzymes can be dangerous in that they can disolve your organs, so ladies please be careful.

Well, I made a trip to the Vitamin Shoppe and stocked up on a couple of things relative to this thread. I purchased Twinlad Amino Acid, Muscle Milk protein powder, and some digestive enzymes. As for the amount of protein taken today, it goes as follows:

Tuna-39gs

Shake-32gs

I don't think I am finished for the day so I will edit this later.

Eggs, fish and milk. Eggs fish and milk. I freaking dream about eggs fish and freakin milk...................... and long, long hair:lachen: .

I haven't done eggs in a couple days. So today I had 2 shakes, fruit, and some chicken. I don't eat that much nowadays and I attribute that to the shakes. I would say my intake was probably around 75gs.

I have about 1 scoop left of the JR Whey protein. I think I am going to try Naturades egg and milk protein next. I went to smoothie Kings yesterday and they had a 45g protein shake!

What's ya'lls hair doing?

I thought about getting off the challenge because of my side effects but after checking out my mane . . . I think Not!

My hair has improved tremendously, It is sooo thick !

My hair does feel thicker, but that might just be the new growth talkin' (I'm 10 weeks post). I'm probably going to relax on Sunday, so hopefully I'll be able to tell any significant difference in length or strength then.

I have unofficially been doing this. Can a high protein diet cause break-outs? I have been blemish free for a while now and suddenly I have pimples. I have been ingesting about 70-100 grams of protein daily. I drink lots of water. Any insight?

None for me dear. My skin seems to be florishing right now though I'm not quite sure why. I also ingest around 70-100gs. Good luck!

good challege :yep: I naturally eat a lot of protein so this one aint too hard for me to get down :) at work I generally eat 2 tuna sandwiches...which contain about 50g of protein all together. I LOVE boiled eggs so thats anpother 10-15 g right there depending on whcih eggs I eat. Today I had baked beans mixed with ground turkey and onions, I dunno the content of that but it had to be a lot.

Yea, I eat a bunch of tuna also and that turkey with beans sounds good. I am still going strong! I've been at it for a month counting today. Its become a habit to remind myself of my protein shakes and anything that will give me extra protein. I had newgrowth before I got my weave done on Feb 14th and now my braids are already L-O-O-S-E. It usually takes a month or so before my braids start getting loose. I am also losing weight (not that I am trying). I have also caught off caffeine, soda, and all meat except for fish and tuna (this is really helping my hair) because I gave up some things for the season of lent. I think thats all I have to report. I am really looking forward to posting pics from this challenge at the end of April. You know the best proof of growth is in the pics!!!

I just drank my low carb protein shake. That's 28g down. Now a few questions:

How do I know if it's going to work for me? What does more protein in your diet do for your hair exactly?
