I honestly don't think it's all that troubling. One way or another, vast majority of women indulge in some sort of enhancement.
This I agree with. Woman A may beat her face daily and wear nails but won't touch weave and Woman B may wear weave and won't catch her dead without her nails polished but doesn't wear makeup. Why is one more "womanly" than the other?

To get back to the thread title, there's someone for everyone. You may be unattractive to one person but beautiful to another. Having confidence and putting your best foot forward will probably gain you admirers.

my mother is one of the proud barefaced women. 
She runs off similar diatribes as those in this thread. it's annoying. i don't even know how to explain her half the time. Although an attractive woman, chick looks a mess, plain, boring or unnotable 90% of the time. It's a choice, evidently she must really want to look like that on purpose. which is effin disturbing to witness as a DD 
I don't get it. at this point im convinced she might as well turn in her woman card and close up shop bc she clearly hates femininity and looking feminine. I've always advocated she femme up--since about 12 years old. However she's one of those self-righteous delusional woman that would rather be right and set in her ways than improve herself. Honestly, I'm starting to feel her life undying devotion homeliness is a personal attack against me
g-d forbid she liked and felt better about herself w/makeup, that would make me right, as usual....

And I'm not anti-enhancement! I have yet to say anything against a woman doing what she needs to do to feel good, and I love makeup. But makeup is a Choice...not a Need. And for someone to get agitated when a woman takes pride in her natural appearance, screams insecurity. Sorry, it just does.

I don't really wear make-up. But when I do people act different, dudes smile at me and everyone stares at me. I am not even pretty either. All I did was put on lipgloss, eye shadow, and some blush. Anything else, I don't know how to apply. Mascara is a no no for me, it took my eyelashes out.
Woman who wear make-up 24/7 seem to be insecure to me. They act and look so fake. Most I see who wear it everyday act totally different when they don't have makeup or their weave on. They either have horrible skin and/or a short thin ponytail with the sides all sticking out. Funny how those are the same girls who called me weird and ugly.

A lot of things women decide to do are based on choice, instead of need. Universal throughout human society, women used "enhancements." That's not to say that people do not appreciate "natural" beauty though. And I honestly don't believe the root of someone's self confidence is anyone's business.
I choose to spend more money on skin and hair care products (more on the former) than make up. Make up is just one of the many elements women go to make themselves appear more attractive. I'm some what content with way I am (would like to lose a bit more weight, but what average woman doesn't?)
Anyone else who feels the same as I do about myself should allow others who disagree to be great. I was under the impression that a lot of the women here are diverse, and based on this thread it still holds true.

Girl this woman needs a chaperone. I'm not exaggerating either. No makeup, basic hair styling, old lady clothes, and no heels. She's my mother and I love her but b*sh look crazy. She's a natural redhead but now she's graying and instead of dying it, she wants to walk around like she's about to get her AARP card and chick isnt even 50 yet! Just last week, we went to the nail salon and do you know she really had just planned on sitting there staring me in my effin face while I get my mani/pedi and eyebrows done. hell naw. I've had enough of her shenaginans. After about 30 mins of literally begging & pleading, 2 manicurists and I finally were able to convince her to at least get her flinstones done. See, this is I've been doing the preschool lay-out your clothes and gotta have specifics on her planned grooming routine before we go places. Gotta watch her to make sure I'm not stuck in public with a woman that looks like who shot john. She can look ugly on her own time but I'm not about to let her embarass me. btw, do you know she was complaining about needing comfortable shoes, and the best idea she could come up with were orthopedic nurse's shoes. da ****?! nurses dont wear nursing shoes IRL. I can't deal. no ma'am. shameful.

Your Mom is my MIL and her sister to a T!! Except my MIL has good taste in clothes for others. She just cant dress herself. She's afraid of any thing that actually fits. She wears her clothes 2 sizes to big.

I'm helping folks out so they know what to expect if they end up with a daughter that's more like Harper Beckham or Suri and less like Shiloh.
I hate having to bring the topic up because I dont want to be mean or accidentally hurt her feelings. I want her to wear makeup and act like a girl out of love. I look at her like "wtf happened to you" sometimes its like I didnt have a role model of black feminity & beauty. it's sad. It hurts my feelings and makes me feel bad to see my mother like that. All women deserve to be considered beautiful and the embodiment of womanhood by their daughters. I love her but the homeliness is upsetting, we should both be beautiful together. Seriously, I want to be like no one cares about your personality or what's on the inside. *** a personality. it's overrated. don't need it if you're a feminine woman that takes care of themselves. besides, she doesnt really have personality anyway.
the least she can do is look attractive & pretty. I'm pretty sure there will be a barefaced poster or two that might remember my tragic tale for the future.....
