I am relaxed 4a and plan on steaming 1x per week. Unfortunately I do not own a steamer, but until I do I will be steaming the old fashioned way .

I agree with Janet'... I didn't see any difference in the steam. The difference in the 2 machines is that with the non tap water is that the water is heated inside of the machine and with tap water one, the heating element is located outside of the the machine (inside of the reservoir). Another difference is the piece inside the hood that releases the steam is plastic on the tap water machine and medal on the non tap water. I didn't see where that made a difference though...

i think the difference is made to the actual steamer. distilled water is supposed to help the parts of the machine not rust so guess thats why they are made a bit differently like what you have stated. it doesnt make a difference to the hair, hth

:yahoo: my steamer is here!
it came 9am this morning and i was still sleeping. I flew out of my bed when i heard the doorbell ring and rushed down the stairs. I will be steaming later so i will report back!

Ok...I have updated the list of participants. Please make sure your name is there on the list. Give me a shout out if I missed you (my apologies in advance). If you haven't had a chance to, please post your starting pics and a little bit about your regime. In the next few days, I will be updating the first post to show the post # to help you find a person's picture in the thread as it grows.

Good luck to EVERYONE! Lets get some great results.

Now, I have a major announcement coming. My lips are sealed for just a few days more. However, for those who keep up with regular updates here in this thread, particularly those who are using alternative methods of steaming (i.e. towels/hoods/saunas, etc), your efforts will pay off in a really nice way. Be creative yet tell us about your regime and results on a regular basis. Pictures are great. If you are a little shy, thats fine too but please keep us updated.

I will post my pictures a bit later today.

PS - Is there anyone who isn't participating because they don't have a steamer? If so, read my big hint above and JOIN US, we would love to have you. You might start with one method and wind up using a different method in the end. :yep::yep::yep:

i just finished steaming my hair today and will wait until it dries before i post my pic. Today was my first day with my new steamer and i hope next week it will go smoother

Yay!!!!! First day!! WOOT WOOT! lol

I'm gonna do a hot towel steam treatment later today because my hair feels really dry. No matter how hard I try, I can't use shea butter ANYTHING! :nono:

I'll be using EVCO and suave humectant.

I will be buying some coconut oil and a turbie towel today to steam under my regular hood dryer. I know this method won't steam as well as an actual steamer, but im excited to try.

Method
1. shampoo my hair
2. apply warm coconut oil to hair
3. apply deep conditioner
4. cover with plastic cap
5. put a hot soaked towel over the plastic cap and secure
6. sit under hood dryer for 30 mins

I want to join. This will be my first challenge.

Count me in please! I have the Huetiful steamer and I'd like to steam once a week. I'm in the middle of taking out a gazzillion braids and will post pictures after this process.

Just steamed today using the towel method and my hair feels good, I have some dusting to do though cuz i couldnt resist blow drying and flat ironing my hair...ugh! I really have to keep up with airdrying.

My starting pic is in my siggy. I'm gonna start off with shea butter and avocado conditioner mixed with wheat germ oil for my first steam.

I didn't see a thread about steaming in braids. Does anyone know how? I have mini-twists in my hair right now and am wondering how I could go about steaming without them unraveling or something.

I just steamed a few days ago. I plan on steaming next Friday with honey since I did my light protein this time. This challenge should work well with the HYH challenge I'm in.

... I'm intrigued by your major announcement.....:yep:

Im intrigued also. I was in the process of looking online to buy a steamer. I have been anticipating this all week. Now I am debating if I am going to wait for the big announcement or not..... I think Im going to wait...:crystalba

Either way I will steam this weekend using the towl and dryer method if I dont have a steamer by then. Happy First Day Ladies and good luck everybody....:grouphug3:

Hey ladies:wave:

I did my first steam for the challenge tonight. I am 8 weeks post and my hair was feeling somewhat mushy after I wet it so I decided to use a protein condish.

First, I washed with ORS creamy aloe to clarify and then put my hair in 4 sections and applied Joico K-pak deep penetrating reconstructor. I sat under the steamer for 30 mins. then rinse and applied Joico K-Pak Intense Hydrator for 15 mins and finished with a cool rinse.

I added Chi silk infusion as my leavein and put in 3 sections to dry overnight.

So, my hair has been feeling just blah all week. I was gonna steam today but I forgot to wash my turbie towels, so I had to do a mini steam in the shower today with AOGPB and my hair felt amazing!!

At this point my ends can't be saved, but even my scraggly ends felt a little better :)

ps. My starting pic is my avi!

I have never done a steam treatment, but have heard great things about it and wanna try it. So please add me to the list.

currently steaming as I type with a portable turbin style steamer. Silk Elements Conditioner mixed w/hemp seed and grape seed oil and honey.
Haven't decided what I will do with my hair when it's washed out...
