I'm going to steam tonight. I'm going to use my Molton Brown's Mer-Rouge Hydramasque with my Frederic Fekkai Salon Glaze on top. Will probably steam for 30/40 minutes.

Ok...just a few updates:

I added all the new people up til this point. Please check to make sure I have you on the list. If not, let me know.

Also, for a few people in the challenge, can you please provide the method you are using for steaming....I just need to update that info. Please check your name on the first page and make sure I have a method for you, if not, let me know.

As for the announcement - I will be making that BIG announcement next week after the holiday has passed and everyone is back into the swing of things.
Happy steaming to everyone!

Can I still join? I don't have a steamer, so I will be using the towel method.

Name - BrooklynQueen
Natural or relaxed? - Transitioning to Natural (59 weeks post)
How frequently will you steam your hair??? - I have never done it before so I will start with once a week to see how it works out.

ADD me please!
Natural 4 a/b
Steaming once a week! with my Huetiful Steamer (once it gets here)
I will take a starting pic soon!

Can i join pretty please!

I'll be steaming once a week via the towel method. This AZ desert dries a sista out! I can't wait to feel the moisture I've been reading about.

I just steamed today in my mini-twists. It came out great and they didn't unravel like I was afraid they would! :)

I did my 1st steam of the challenge on 9/1. It felt moisturized after I steamed but I think I dried it out trying to get pictures :ohwell: My hair still feels fairly dry and brittle so hoping to see improvement over the next few months. I think detangling was easier but not easy. I am afraid to spritz it with cold water. The last time I put cold water on my hair, my hair matted so badly I thought I would have to cut it.

Here are my starting pics after my 1st steam and rinse.

I would love to do that. DId you put anything on your twists first? Did your hair frizz at all? What did you put on after you steamed?

Thanks!

Did my first steam of the challenge earlier. I am on a personal mission to use up my stash of products before buying any new stuff.

Washed with Aussie Moist (not my usual but I had been experimenting with cones and polyquats recently:blush:)

Steamed with Roux Mendex. I panicked as I rinsed this out as my hair felt fairly hard with not much slip.:look:

I applied KCKT in the shower and followed up with some KCCC. Hair feels good despite the shaky start but I have some poorly defined frizz in areas - maybe I skimped a little on the KCKT (it was only my second time using this product). I do like the results so far but tomorrow will be the acid test as I like the option of 2nd day hair. Part of me hopes I dont like it - its too expensive for me. I am a miser.

I think I need to lay off the protein for a while now - that's two protein steams in the last couple of weeks and steaming clearly turbo charges the conditioner as mendex has never left my hair feeling hard before. Hair feels nice and strong though:yep:

What did you use to steam? I use Alter Ego for moisture under the steamer and it is amazing :) also SSI Banana Brulee is awesome.

Hey you guys...has anyone steamed on dry hair? I'm wearing my hair flatironed right now and thought it would be a good idea to do a steam treatment using oil before I wash and DC my hair again. Has anyone tried this or something similar before? TIA

Is it too lateto join? If not...

I plan to steam weekly if possible (I have a 5 month old so my hair has been neglected lately) or I'll settle for twice a month. I usually use Kenra or Strinilla(sp?) with my SalonsRUs steamer. I will post pics when I steam.

Well I did my first steam treatment using the towel method and I don't think that I did it quite right because my hair is kind of dry right now. But I will try again soon and I am hoping to be able to get a REAL steamer.

okay, so this is an update on my first steaming session which was on Wednesday.
So far my hair seems not to be breaking as much. I have had an issue with breakage for as long as i can remember. I am able to monitor it bcause i comb my hair in the sink. well since wednesday i have had breakage but not as much as i usually do after deep conditioning under my hood dryer.
My new growth is also slightly softer, though im hoping for a much better improvement as this will help me to attempt transitioning again as my natural hair seems to go rock hard within a day of washing.

I hope that the steamer will help my to eliminate my hair breakage ( i have tried everything and have a pretty good routine) i also hope it will help to infuse moisture into my new growth since im assuming thats why its so hard.
I will update after my next steaming session which will be on tuesday or thursday.
Happy steaming ladies!

I will be steaming today. I'm not sure what I will use. I have some yes to carrots mask that I need to use up. I may mix that with some SAA and AO HSR.

ETA - I ended up spritzing my with my rosewater, glycerin, aloe vera juice, and honeyquat mix. Next slapped some wheat germ oil on. Finally added some myhoneychild molasses conditioner. L--O--V--E--L--Y!!

Is this doing too much?

1) Steamed in prepoo of oils (Olive, Grapeseed, Hemp) 20 min
2) Steamed in DC of Nexxus DC in jar 20 min
3) Steamed in combo of Humectress/Kenra 10 min

First time trying Kimmaytube leave in, then finish off with a combo of CO/SB then put in some celie braids

Today, I steamed for 30 minutes using ApHogee Keratin 2-Minute Reconstructor and Jessicurl Too Shea Moisturizing Conditioner. I would enclose a starting pic if I knew how given the site's new layout.
