Steamed today with Biancaelyse's mix and my hair came out super soft as always. I also used Kimmay's leave-in mix (YT) and added Hemp seed butter to seal. It's airdrying now....2 strand twists tomorrow

What are the biancaelyse and kimmay mixes?

I steamed today for about 20 min it's all I could take. I moved my steamer to a different outlet and put filtered water in and it came right back on.

Okay ladies, don't laugh, but I bought a Conair fabric steamer for $24 at Walmart to see how the steam would work. I hold the nozzle under the hood of a regular hair dryer [the dryer is off] and voila instant steamer. It steams for 30 mins before it runs out.

Now I'm not sure if my hair is really that damaged or if I need to steam longer, but I haven't seen a real change in the "heaviness" of my hair. I do see improvement in the moisture. The only thing I don't like about the fabric steamer is, I can't adjust the heat or steam flow and it gets so warm that I have to move the nozzle from under the hood at times.

Tell me what you ladies think. I do like the steam . . .

I would check the output wattage to make sure its not more than 620W. Any higher it could cause damage over time since it would be considered high heat.

Thanks for the response . . . the wattage is 1000w, maybe I need to get one that's not as strong. The box does say commercial strength.

I steamed last night with Naked Naturals Shea Butter and Avocado Smoothing conditioner and unrefined shea butter :lick: and my hair feel so good. I can't believe how soft it is. My roller set is :yep:today. owwwww

i too did not notice a heaviness in my hair after steaming, but maybe that will come with time. I will be steaming tomorrow with keracare humect mixed with a tube of matrix biolage cera repair

That's what I'm hoping too. I used Aphogee 2 minute reconstructor. Hair feels great, but I'm dying for the heaviness.

I will be steaming this week and DC with moisture still using the towel method. Last week I used a light protein while I steamed.

I steamed today with Hairveda's Sitrinillah and then tried something new...instead of rinsing the conditioner out after steaming, I just left it in. I'm wearing a bun for the next couple of days.

I am about to do my weekly steam treatment. This week I will use my WEN remoist in fig and sweet almond mint, along with a touch of AO. I also sprayed my hair with Aphogee GTR before adding DC. For the last two weeks, I used the DC found in the natural living thread.

Hey you guys...has anyone steamed on dry hair? I'm wearing my hair flatironed right now and thought it would be a good idea to do a steam treatment using oil before I wash and DC my hair again. Has anyone tried this or something similar before? TIA

I've been wondering about this too. I keep meaning to try it. I'll post results if I do.

I steamed yesterday for the first time at home:) I loved the results and the steamer is fantastic. it does not get too hot. I laways had this prob with salon steamers.

@jasmineml,
I did that yesterday. I applied EVOO to my dry hair as a prepoo and steamed for 20 minutes. My hair was sooo soft afterwards.

Update 1:
Since I got my steamer about 2 weeks ago,I have steamed on 5 different occasions.
Yesterday, I saturated my dry hair( washed and blowdried after steaming last wednesday) with evoo. I sat under the steamer for about 30 mins. I didn't get a chance to wash my hair yesterday as planned and eventually washed it this morning and DC with steam with Aveda damage remedy. I had an unusual sensation in my scalp as I sat under the steamer this morning. The part of my hairline where I am experiencing really bad hair loss felt tingly/sore....I wonder what that was. But, I am loving my steamer. I'll put up pictures as soon as I can.
I have decided to only wash my hair twice a week, I am trying to reduce mynipulation. Maybe I'll still steam in braids mid-week without washing....Does anyone know if that makes any sense? I'd really appreciate your input.

Thank you for your response. Since I don't have an actual steamer, I just saturated my hair in EVCO put on a shower cap and two scarves. I left it on for about 5 hours. I just cowashed it out. My hair was so shiney that I didn't want to rinse it out lol!

Now I'm steaming with my beloved mixture of suave humectant, SAS, honey and two hot towels. I'm probably gonna be here for an hour....sitting with my steam treatment always makes me sleepy lol

Okay, I've got to edit this post. I felt something on my shoulder this afternoon and asked my husband if something was on me [poised to run mind you]. My hair has gained heaviness and incredible sheen! I LOVE the steam!!!!

Add me if it's not too late.
I'm Natural and I have a floor stand steamer that I have only used once and I need to get it into my routine.

I really need to buy a steamer. I attempted to do the towel steam method and this did not work as well as i intended. It was ok but it felt like more of a deep conditioning treatment them a steam treatment. My hair was not saturated they way it is when I get the steam treatment at the salon. I put my deep conditioner on then a shower cap then towel. I wanted to put another shower cap on top of the towel but I had ran out of caps. I will try it with the second cap next time.... if I dont have a steamer by then.....:yep:.

Newbie here just dropping a line. Been lurking for over a year. But I just a floor steamer fromhttp://salonsrus.com. The discount "exoticmommies" for $10.00 off your order still works. So if you want a steamer try ordering from them dont know howw long thi discount will still be able to use.
