I'm in. In the process of acquiring a steamer. I am really curious......Can anyone advice on the pros/cons of tabletop vs. stand alone steamer? TIA

There is another thread that discusses this that I will try to find for you. Mainly it boils down to whether you have the space to store it or not. Since they are similar in price, I went with a floor steamer because I have the space to store it.

I will be back to edit this answer with a link...so check back.

I would also love to join this challenge, so please include me.

Name: PJaye
Type: Natural, 3C
Method: Floor model hair steamer
Frequency: Once a week for 30 minutes

Questions:

- Which of these is most effective subsequent to using steam – spraying the hair with cool water, or allowing the hair and scalp to cool prior to proceeding with the remainder of one’s regimen?

- Should a participant post their entire wash day regimen, or only the products used during the steaming process?

- What type of starting pic should be included, wet or dry?

- How often should challenge participants check-in?

Please include me also. I am natural and I will be steaming once per week with a steamer I purchased from a local beauty salon when it closed. I am so excited!!!

I will use a combination of things
Jasons biotin conditioner w/wheat germ oil or EVOO

I am newly natural and just learning what my hair likes but I do know it likes steam! ;-)

Please add me! This is exciting. It will be my first challenge. I've had a Heutiful tabletop steamer for over a year and just recently used it for the first time. I am hooked!

Name: Blackpearl1993
Natural or relaxed: Relaxed
I will be steaming at least once a week and closely watching how my hair reacts. I use oils, cholesterol, Humecto, and I may try to do it with a reconstructor once a month.

Question: Can I add the oils and the reconstructor together and then steam? Or do they have to be done seperately?

I tried a new condish I bought yesterday called " Profectiv megagrowth strengthening..." . I was so impressed with what it claimed it was supposed to do to my hair like making it 7 times stronger, that I forgot to look at the ingredients. Anyways, I used it with my steamer (yes I know.... this is the 2nd time in a row I've used my steamer but this is the last time this week... already addicted to it :) ) and boy my hair was dry! Dry like the Sahara y'all. When I looked at the ingredients I saw that it had petrolatum in it and lots of other bad stuff!!! So I'm definitely not going to use this thing again... I've learned my lesson. I'll be more careful next time. Thank God I had the "Curls.biz curl ecstasy hair tea" because it litteraly saved my hair...

This will be easy as I've been steaming every week for the last 19 months!

I have relaxed hair and have a stand up steamer.

Please add me to this challenge! I have a steamer that stands on the floor and I steam at least once a week. I'm natural.

I chose a stand up steamer because:
1. I had the space to store it. It really doesn't take up much room and rolls, so after I'm done with it, I tuck it into a corner of my closet and leave it there until next week.
2. It's more comfortable. There's no balancing the steamer on a table while scrunching down and tilting my head and contorting my spine just to get an even steam. With my stand up one, I sit up straight and comfortable in my chair, and my steamer fits right over my head. It makes the experience truly relaxing.
3. It was easier to acquire my stand up steamer. I only like to buy from reputable dealers, and the only tabletop steamers I could find at the time were from shady Chinese merchants.

But a con of my stand up one is that when the school year is over and I go back home, I have to disassemble it, put it in the box, tape it up and drag it home. With a tabletop one, I could just fold it up and be done. And storing the empty box is honestly more inconvenient than storing the steamer.

I bought my steamer from an American company who got the steamer from a Chinese place. I had problems with it, so they refunded the money but let me keep the steamer.

Hi Ladies,

I would like to join. I am transitioning. I will steam 2 - 4 times a month. I do not have a hair steamer at this time. Looking into purchasing one. I do have a face steamer and I was looking into ways I can possibly use that as an alternative.

I came across this youtube video showing how to use your facial steamer and hooded dryer for steaming your hair. This may be helpful to others. My facial steamer does not have the attachment hers has so unfortunately I will not be able to use my facial steamer the same way however her method seems to offer a great way to steam your face and hair at the same time for those of us on a budget.

Here is the link to her video.

In this video she shows how she uses her facial steamer to assist with pre pooing for more intense results.

Here is the link to the steamer she is using. Its about $85 with shipping but I saw some as low as $47.
