DOWNSIDES OF HAVING LONGER HAIR

- I feel the complete opposite. It is easy for me to style my hair longer. It can be in a bun, high pony, low pony, to the side, braided, curled.... because it is long enough to have options. The shorter it is the harder it becomes to be in a hurry w/o the inconvenience of just putting it up and looking sophisticated. When my hair was shorter it ALWAYS had to be teased or styled.
*shrug* I like my hair long. - The only downside that I can think of is more products = more $$$. But, I'll keep that.

While I can understand what the long haired ladies feel, I can see your point too. My hair is not long by a long shot, but I am in here looking at different perspectives. Its funny because the longer my hair grows the more it seems I have to do to it, which I am not used to. HOWEVER, I do find it fun to style it different ways. Not as easy as the pixie I used to rock, but its def so much fun to style long hair.

I understand what you are saying, OP...but for me my shorter hair was MUCH more work. I did not have the option to bun or wear a ponytail. I always had to have a bump or curl on my ends because NL hair that is stick straight is not a good look IMO. Maybe its because my hair isn't super long yet or maybe its because I'm relaxed but my longer hair is much less of a hassle than my short hair was. The only major difference that I can complain about is that I require more product now.

I wish my hair was heavy *hmph*

For me, detangling has become a *****. I never had problems detangling before.
Mine is that it is soooooo freaking HEAVYYYY!!!

It won't stay in a ponytail (high or low) it always slides down and eats up my goodie hair tie. I have to secure it with bobbie-pins and they run kicking and screaming after about an hour! They just fall out my hair! All I hear is *tinggg tinggggggg* look down and a dead defeated bobbie-pin bouncing on the floor! RIP!

I have "Hair Webs" all over! lol My hair is so long it just feels Like I have spider webs all over my face, neck, back and arms from fly aways. HATE THAT!

Of course it getting caught onto things seat belts, car doors, freezer doors, bra straps, jacket zippers, mouth etc.

Detangling....:-/....

and ive been getting lazier with my hair because its so time consuming...

Im a big procrastinator, and I tend to procrastinate with my hair too, I'll detangle half of it, get caught up in other ish, forget and have half detangled hair the next day...

My only gripe is getting rid of shed hair.my hair loves to dread in its natural state as it gets longer.otherwise i love my length and i love showing off my hair.i cant wait until it gets longer! No shame in my game!

I say let down your hair for a few days and you will remember why you are growing it out!

This isn't really a downside to me, but it is frustrating that my hair takes for ever to air dry. I like to wash my hair at night and it is still damp in the morning.

It takes more time to wash, dry, style, moisturize.

I run through conditioner like its going out of fashion.

When I have a bad hair day, it looks worse because there is way more hair that looks crazy.

This is more of a thickness issue but I can't wear regular hats unless my hair is flat ironed otherwise they squeeze my head. O_O

Most stylists can't manage it properly (from my personal experience).

HA the same thing happens to my bobby pins. my husband calls me "Witch Hazel" (y'all remember the witch who always tried to eat Bugs Bunny? Whenever she would fly away, her bobby pins would be on the floor LMAO)

Mine is that it is soooooo freaking HEAVYYYY!!!

For me, the only downside is that my rollersets do take longer to dry now, but there is no way I want shorter hair. :nono:

This was it for me. I can't go any longer than BSL because of that. I just can't take sitting under the dryer that long, and the blow dryer zaps my hair. As soon as I get to BSL or just approaching MBL, I start thinking of stuff to do like cutting it--or going natural! LOL

They charge you more money at the Dominican salon which I don't agree with!!!! I always feel like I am in NYC trying to talk them down on the street like I am buying a pair of gold earrings....lol

I totally agree with EllePixie I love being able to bun my hair or just slap it in a full ponytail without looking like a picked chicken.

My downsides:

*My hair is very porous and the strands are fine so I need to be extra careful while detangling it.

*I end up using more products, especially conditioners.

*I have to watch my ends like a hawk, unlike when I used to cut my hair often.

Im going back to a bob tomorrow. Over long hair....for now :look:
Make sure to post pics

More hair means more work. I would cut it to CBL but I want to be at least SL unstretched. I want to reach MBL as a personal goal but realistically I don't think I can handle more than full BSL,

I'm not long by LHCF standards, buy longer hair is hot, especially around this time of year.
Detangling is not fun.
During the winter I worry about it rubbing on my sweaters. In the summer I have to deal with pulling the ends when I lean back onto chairs/seats.

love my long hair but:
-It takes a LONG time in the shower to detangle. I come out with pruny fingers.
-It takes 4-5 hrs to blow dry and flat iron.
-My shorter hair had SO much more body. My hair now lays flat as a board no matter how layered it is.
-It takes 3 bottles of black semi perm dye to get all of my hair colored.
-A 16oz bottle of conditioner is a JOKE to me.
-My bun is heavy and gives me headaches sometimes.

However......i went to get a trim and layer recently and ended up losing 5 inches of length thanks to the stupid hair stylist. Went from HL back to above WL. I found a new appreciation for my long hair :(

I'm finding just the opposite with my hair as it gets longer. I don't know if it's cause of the weight of it pulling it down or what but I just twisted my hair in record timing tonight. Cowashing, detangling and rinsing in the shower and then putting in a leave in and twisting> I didn't have to jump through hoops and hurdles for once in my life.

But I find that doing twists and twistouts or braids and braidouts keep my sanity.

Of course it getting caught onto things seat belts, car doors, freezer doors, bra straps, jacket zippers, mouth etc.
This is the biggest inconvenience for me - long hair tends to get in everything. When curly, it also blocks my vision. Other than that, having longer hair has been positive for me.

I actually like long hair on me...

*Its just that Conditioners,Sulfate free poo's,Leave-ins,Oils & Butters cost an arm & a leg......I GO THRU A LOT OF CONDITIONER...I Mean A LOT!

Happy Hair Growing!

-hair getting caught on everything
-worrying about my ends when it's out
-tangles
-the shed hair looks like a lot but it's really just the length of the hairs intertwining
- having to use sooooooo much conditioner, soooo much product, soooooo much ayurvedic powders; it's costly!!!
-the weave checks, stares and comments

BUT . . .
- i love the style versatility and being able to slap it away and it still looks good
-love the weight
- love to play with it:look:

still getting used to it. longest hair before this in my relaxer days was APL.

I think my only downside would be time to style. I'm wearing box braids that I did sloppily and it still took me close to 3 hours. Also, I can't blowdry my own hair to save my life, so the longer it gets the harder that is. Other than that, I wouldn't trade my long hair for the world!!!

I had a short layerd ear-neck length bob for a while and I hated it!! I could only wear it straight because any other way it looked like I had a poodle sitting on my head. Not a good look.

You too?! I CANT blowdry my own hair. It just gets crisp and nowhere near straight.grrrrrrrrrrrrr

It's hot as crap on when you have it down on hot days.. it just traps heat and keeps it there! Hot days = bun city for me. :yep:

gets caught in everythangggg---something as easy as strapping your seatbelt in...or getting up from a seat can potentially yank a couple strands out..snagging on things is a bishh..

cant be cute in a convertible...hair blinding you--blowing every which way--fail on the fly convertible moment...smdh
