I'm freshly releaxed, and because I have dry scalp I will wait 5 days, and 5 days only LOL......my hair feels fresh and clean, and I love the relaxed feeling, but I hate what it does to my scalp if I wait too many days lol...

Definitely with braids! I've been braiding/twisting for 7 years and it's gotten me to MBL length once (before a cut) and I'm almost back to BSL because of it.

My hair was barely growing until I started wearing sewn ins. Now, between the weaves and the growth aides, my hair is growing out the kudzu!

My hair has thrived with it. I was able to mist my hair everyday with moister spritz, and by the time take down approached my hair grew and still felt moist. I love them! I took down my sew in recently, and I am wondering how soon to put it back it. They have helped me, thus far!:yep: My sister has gotten tremendous growth with them, while I was wrestling with myown hair.:wallbash: So she is far in front of me with the growth.:ohwell:

I wouldn't say it grows "faster", rather "better," meaning, its easier for my current time situation. Plus, less manipulation!

Hey ladies

Does your hair grow better with or without extentions?

I didn't vote for any of them because I don't think extensions enhance or hinder my hairs growth rate, I will say that with extensions, I can notice the growth more so that without extensions but either way my hair grows at the same rate.

IMO ALL EXTENSIONS WILL GROW HAIR IF PROPERLY DONE AND IF THEY ARE REMOVED IN THE RIGHT WAY DONT GET ME WRONG I HAD SOMEONE OTHER THAN MY USUAL BRAIDER PUT THEM IN AND I HAD TO TAKE THEM OUT THE SAME WEEK B/C THE HAIR LINE WAY WAS TO TIGHT SHE TOLD ME TO SPRAY WITH WATER BUT I WAS NOT RISKING MY EDGES!!!!! MY STLYIST HAS BEEN BRAIDING MY HAIR OFF AND ON FOR 10YRS+ I AM ABLE TO GROW OUT QUICKLY OR CUT WHENEVER I CHOOSE I TAKE MY TIME TO TAKE THEM OUT WITH A LITTLE COND FOR EXTRA SLIP. I KEEP THEM WELL HYDRATED AND USE WGO ON MY SCALP. NEVER RUT BRAIDS IN IF YOU ARE RELAXED AND I ONLY HAVE HER BRAID ABOUT ONE TO TWO INCHES SO IT LOOKE MORE LIKE A WEAVE INSTEAD. OR IF I DONT WANT TOMANIPULATE AT ALL I DO CORN ROWS

I don't know if some's posted something similar already (haven't read the entire thread) - but I've found that I gain/ retain more length in braids but I gain more thickness without them.

My hair thrives without extensions, I know this, but have I listened to my hair? No not until now.

Over the past four years I've worn braids and weaves consistenly eveytime after take down I would have thin edges and very damaged weak and broken ends. I would swear off extensions, but 2 months later I'd have them in...sigh.

After really reading and paying attention to the forum in 2005 (I found it in Dec. 2004 but really didn't start following the advice until about last March) I tried the crown and glory method thinking that would make a diffrence....it really didn't, broken hair again.

The thing is I have fine double processed (relaxer and highlights) strands. My hair needs deep conditioning with a light protein weekly, and I can't with braids or weave. Furthermore my edges have always been fragile and extensions serve to weaken them. I also don't believe the pulling on my stands caused by braids is healthy for my fine hair.
These things weakens my hair and leads to breakage for me in the long run.
I am jelly of the ladies who have success with extensions, because I really love the versatality they afford. However, after taking out a weave to a hair disaster 2 months ago, I made a pact to abstain from them for at least a year.

I need to work on building my hair back extension free. I will be doing this my going to the Dominican salon weekly for a wash, set, and deep conditioning. I will also cowash once weekly at home.

I had the same problem but I was in denial for about two years. My ends are see through. I have natural hair but I cannot do twists or braids because it showcases the thinness. I have to wear my hair in an afro and if I do some kind of twist out, I have to lift the roots with a pic to hide the thin hair. Like Intelligence is beauty, I have fine hair and I don't think it can handle weaves and braids.

With extensions.

I find that my problem is that even if I put my hair in a protective style, I start fiddling with it too much anyway. On top of that, my hair gets too matted and messy without extensions after about a day. My hair is not the type to get "revitalised" after steam in the shower either. Therefore, I end up having to re-do my hair in about a week.

With extensions, I don't play with my hair, the style lasts for a decent amount of time and my hair retains length.

I wear braids every year over the winter. My mum does them for me and my hair just thrives. I have a very delicate hairline and she knows exactly how to braid to protect it. That is the very reason I am hesitant to let anybody else do my braids but if I do, I make them leave out parts of my hairline and to take larger sections at the sides of my hairline and this helps a lot. I also keep my hair moisturised and my scalp clean. I can rarely keep them in for very long because my hair just grows so fast in them.

I'll say without. It's not the extension/weave itself that breaks my hair, it's my lack of knowledge on how to really care for my hair in extensions or weaves.

I hate them because of my frail hairline, but I get better length retention in braids. I am learning to braid my hair without braiding the hairline though to help out with that. But I could never completely give up my braids because they work so well for me in helping me to retain length.

Definitely without.

I only attach my Ponytails occassionally,... so they don't really count.

I think my hair grows at the same rate but I just retain more. I may look like my hair grows faster becasue of the dramatic difference when I take them out I am like whoa! I love my braids and I have been doing the Crown and Glory challenge since Sept of last year and I love the thickness and length I am able to retain. I think I will continue until I reache MBL or WL. Heck I am on mission so dont laugh! :look:

While relaxed.. I retained way more length w/the help of extensions. I'm sure it's because I really did not manipulate my hair etc.... As a natural I can't say yet; still new at this and currently wearing extensions.

My hair retains length and moisture better in braids period. I usually just do extensions with them anyway.

I just got out of pencil braids, not only was my hair super moisturized when I took them down but I also retained all my growth.

My hair is so picky about everything. It definitely does not like extensions--of any kind braids, sew-ins, etc. But before I learned good hair care practices I would force my hair into braids and sew-ins (long found out that glue and my fine, thin hair was a BIG no-no) thinking it would help my hair grow. I'm so much more hair wise now. :)

My hair grows faster in braids, but I am so tired of fake hair that I refuse to use it. So I am just taking good care of my hair and just letting it grow naturally without extensions.

I cannot say right now. I feel my hair grows better with extensions BUT I only just learned how to care for my hair in extensions- last year. I've been in and out of extensions for the past 3 years. I will know by the end of december because I'm taking my extensions out @ the end of july.

I honestly feel extensions can work just as long as you know how to maintain and look after your hair. Many women lose their edges due to lack of education.

The best thing I did was learn to do my own braid extensions. I now know what works best and can braid my extensions very loosely around my edges without any breakage.

Moisturising and washing is tres tres important.

I haven't noticed much of an increase in growth from extensions like wefts of hair/tracks, (b/c I've only worn them once in my life sewn-in) but my hair definitely sprouts with braided extensions like cornrows/box braids. I am doing an experiment now to see if wearing a little piece here and there makes a difference in retention. As far as growth, not necessarily an increase in the rate, just great retention from the low manipulation.

Well, I couldn't really answer the poll question because my hair grows the same with or without extensions. BUT, I would say that my hair retains more growth with individual pencil-sized braids...maybe a smidget bigger than pencil-sized but you get the idea.

So, yeah. My hair grows the same amount with or without extensions, but with braid extensions there seems to be more rentention. Matter of fact, I know there is more retention.:yep:
