Does your hair grow better with or without extentions?

My hair gorws better with extensions. I get less breakage and more fullness. I keep it clean by following the C&G method. To each, His own.

i tried extensions twice once for 3 weeks it took out my sides both times, my sister had a sew in weave, it messed up her hair.

I think we have to work with what God gave us and make the best of it

I voted on this poll a long time ago that I hadn't noticed, but now that I think about it, I noticed that I retained more length with extensions, but i lost a lot of my thickness. I'm still working on getting that thickness back and it doesn't help that my hair is overprocessed.

Its interesting because I take really good care of my hair while its out of extensions, but I guess leaving it alone in braids just lets it do its thing. I love wearing braids, but I am trying to let my hair chill for a little while by wearing a wig (in my fotki, in the last album). I don't know if it's making a difference or not, but I will probably wear the wig until mid to late March. I haven't noticed much growth since I did the BC, but that's really because I never really measured my hair. I dunno....

I've noticed that when I have braids or a weave in, my hair tends to grow faster. Now I don't know if it actually does or if it's just because I don't see my hair for a long time and when I do see it, the growth shocks me.

I guess it would depend upon how it is done. As far as weaves, I don't recommend anything but a sewn-in. Just as long as the hair is kept conditioned and moisturized and that the hair isn't braided too tight, and the same goes for braids.

Ok y'all, I took out my weave after 3 months and my hair was so thick and elastic! I'm pretty happy, I'm glad I've found an alternative to braids to grow out my hair.

I polled yes it grows better with extensions...but it depends on how it's done and if you take care of your hair while you wear it.

I did my first self installation of a weave in January and took it out End of Feb. My hair has grown quite a bit and has also thickened up.

What did i do for the last 8 weeks:

• sprayed hair daily w/moisturizer
• washed my hair weekly

Would I do it again?

• YUP!!!

My hair grows either way, but to answer the question definently with briads. When I take them out my hair is thicker and healthier. Its a good way for my hair to rest, and it does appreciate the vacation, especially from the harsh elements assoicated with winter in NYC.

Right now I am cornrowing my own hair. For 2 weeks at a time at most. I just spray it, do the MTG and condition wash once a week. Will see how it does. Feels like it is growing. I just do not have the patience for extensions, and I am not sure they are good for my fine stranded hair. bonjour

Much much better. It grows the same rate but I keep each and every inch of length when my hair is in sew ins. The biggest issue when I first started out was how thin my hair would be when I took it down(sew ins deprive your hair of the oxygen it needs to have thickness in the strands). However, since I started taking care of my hair underneath, and washing it(water has tons of oxygen in it) my hair is thick and healthy.

I use Renieces regime most of the time.

So you mean definitely with extension, I take it. Do you comb or brush your hair other than before you wash your hair or do you only wash your hair in braids? Thanks. bonjour

I am constantly in braids, and it works wonders for me! My hair is very thick and I am quite daft when it comes to styling. I also don't have the time to wake up early and style when I just shower, dress up and go with braids.

Keeping my hair in braids is also deterrant to constantly touching it and feeling the urge to cut it short.

I dont leave braids in for long enough to see the difference so I would have to say that it doesn't really benefit me. 1/2 wigs give me great protection and lead to less daily manipulation and I believe that promotes hair growth..however full sewn in weaves are beneficial as well but I haven't had one in years.

My hair is growing pretty fast (thanks MTG), but I noticed my natural ends were curling up which made taking out my cornrows harder with pulling on the ends. So this weekend I added extension hair to my cornrows so that my natural ends are completely flatten and protected.

Hopefully this help me to baby my ends!

I usually stay in braids (like box braids but not too big) and my hair thrives...sad to say its been a while since I was out of them to notice how it grows without them. Gotta follow up on that, I would guess the same growth rate as long as I used less heat and didn't manipulate it much.

Wearing a weave to grow my hair some years ago was the worse thing I ever did. After two years of doing that, I had to end up doing a BC because my hair was a mess. I've learnt from LHCF our hair will grow anyhow, it's just retaining length that's challenging. Since I've got the techniques for doing so, "growing" my hair has never been easier and more rewarding. I had a guy ask me the other day, "is that yours? I mean did you buy it or did you grow it from the roots?" I managed that without extentions.

I found my hair did grow well with extensions but it grows just as well without extensions if I am taking care of my hair.

If you take good care of your hair your hair will grow at the same pace, it's just about caring enough and taking the time to do what you got to do in order to retain length.

extentions work better for me when it comes to retaining lenght. it's the only way that I am going to have hair long hair at all, beacause it is so fragile that if you looked at it cross-eye it breaks

Def without braids or weave. I was in both for a 4yr period. What a waste of time. Only did it cos I was lazy. Well, my hair breaks of real easy with perms regardless as to how often I treat it, I just need to run a comb through it. As for growth, what I gained I lost when I permed it last year and ended up with varying lengths due to breakage. Urrrrrggggghhhh. So now I sport a real short hair cut and it’s texturized. Very nice. I think it makes me look sexy, yum yum.

Anyways, my edges, what edges, they're gone gone gone. If anyone out there speaks yoruba I look like a typical iy’eko. No edges, I'm just praying boundless tresses does the job for me.

I'm never going to wear anything in my hair again. Never, never, never.

My hair grows the same with/without kinky twists. I retain more growth however, with the kinky twists, and my hair also seems healthier overall when I take them out.

i totally aree with honey a. i just removed my micros to find my already super fine hair even thinner. needledd to say, i had to take off 2 inches to make my hair look somewhat presentable. id definately say WITHOUT EXTENTIONS! my hair grows pretty quickly, its just a manner of retaining it. ;-)

My hair has grown better with extensions, since I'm able to protect it..I don't do braids as they help to thin my edges...I have been getting sew-ins..I don't leave them up for a long time..Six to eight weeks max..i get them redone and my ends dusted... This has help me retain the max length...

i used to have extensions so much that they used to call ,me weave-on eve-on.so i definately think we is a great way to retain length,it was a perm that broke off mine once i took it out of the weave.now braids a word of warning is if you have fine hair braids will unpluck your hair clean out of your scalp,it just can not handle it, too much weight on those fine strands.but whatever your hair type and which ever you choose, make sure you keep it moisturised that is the key,only to those whose hair can cope with it.

My hair is so fine the weight of extensions always caused my hair to break. I never had growth success with extensions. I do well without!
