Hey IntelligenceisBeautiful

Why do you feel extentions are no good for your hair...?

Do you experience breakage?

Please leave a brief explanation..

Thank You

:rosebud:

i havent worn a weave in years but when i did i was transitioning from a short cut and going through that akward stage and my hair grew out nicely, even using glue(ick!)

my hair grows nicely with or without a weave. getting it past the collar and shoulders is my problem :-(

these days because i need to wear up-dos, to get over the collar/shoulder humps, i am considering a phony pony and bun :-)

With or without, both work for me, as long as I take care of my hair, keeping it moisterized and deep conditioning often.

My hair thrives without extensions, I know this, but have I listened to my hair? No not until now.

Over the past four years I've worn braids and weaves consistenly eveytime after take down I would have thin edges and very damaged weak and broken ends. I would swear off extensions, but 2 months later I'd have them in...sigh.

After really reading and paying attention to the forum in 2005 (I found it in Dec. 2004 but really didn't start following the advice until about last March) I tried the crown and glory method thinking that would make a diffrence....it really didn't, broken hair again.

The thing is I have fine double processed (relaxer and highlights) strands. My hair needs deep conditioning with a light protein weekly, and I can't with braids or weave. Furthermore my edges have always been fragile and extensions serve to weaken them. I also don't believe the pulling on my stands caused by braids is healthy for my fine hair.
These things weakens my hair and leads to breakage for me in the long run.
I am jelly of the ladies who have success with extensions, because I really love the versatality they afford. However, after taking out a weave to a hair disaster 2 months ago, I made a pact to abstain from them for at least a year.

I need to work on building my hair back extension free. I will be doing this my going to the Dominican salon weekly for a wash, set, and deep conditioning. I will also cowash once weekly at home.

I'm the same way...both works for me too...the only extension that did not work for me were micro braids...I had way too much damage from it.

Oh yeah I never even tried micro braids I knew I'd never get those out of my thick curly hair, I could just see my hair growing around the micros and tangling up. :ohwell:
BTW I was looking @ your siggy progress pics, wow, good job, your hair is thick and healthy but don't get caught up on blunt ends until you've reached your goal that way you'll get there faster-no-body's hair grows in blunt and even.

i tried extensions twice once for 3 weeks it took out my sides both times, my sister had a sew in weave, it messed up her hair. I think we have to work with what God gave us and make the best of it

Don't even think about it lol....I hated micros...I had them done a couple of years ago and it was a disaster...it took days to take them out...and my hair broke off all over the place...it was a mess...

Thank you for the compliment and advice...that was actually what I was planning on doing b4...maybe I may really consider letting it grow out a little bit more and then start cutting...thanx 4 that.

My hair retains a little more with weaves. Braids are a mess. I tried that for the last time in Sept 2004. When took them out it looked like a dog chewed on my ends. And on top of this I lost more than I gained:mad:

Braids work well for me..weaves not soo much for some reason. But individual braids are what help me to retain my length the most. I think the key is to keep them well moisturized and get them around pencil size.

Without - I once wore a weave for 6 weeks and when I took it out I was like  Practically the whole of the left side of my hair had disappeared - my hair had gotten soooo dry and broke off.

I prefer to have my own hair because then I can wash it and moisturise it properly. With weave I feel like I can't get to my hair properly to moisturise it.

i relied on extensions for years, but didnt know how to look after my own hair, so in the end i didnt get any growth. :(
As soon as i started looking after my own hair, within a year i have seen more progress than i have ever had with extensions.:)
I havent gone back to them since and am not sure if it will help me in the long run.

I prefer doing my own hair now anyway

probably with because my hair is prone to split ends with the slightest heat or chemicals. i might be the kinky twist queen for the rest of the year or revisit the no hair out weave in my album even though i hate wearing weave

I love exstensions, my hair grows out very healthy with them, i'm getting way too much breakage manipulating my hair this much, i'm thinking of having them put in for the entire summer, i may even try a weave on.

I think a little of both. I am doing the Crown and Glory Technique and honestly DYING! to have my own hair out, but I want to give it some time and see the results. I have learned how to brais myself and I am still able to moisturize, wash and DC so I'm good. I'm scared of weaves, but I would try it if someone gave me proper instructions on how to do it...I'm clueless about them on my own. All I know is NO GLUE!

I used to wear sew in weaves all of the time. At the time, I wasnt really concerned with the health of my hair but rather the style. My hair would grow, but it would be very dry underneath.

Now that I have started to take better care of my hair, I prefer phony ponies or instant weaves. These styles enable me to wash, condition and moisturize my hair whenever I want AND my hairline looks great :)

I like extentions but sometimes i get lazy and assume its protected when it needs to still be moisturized and pampered to some extent, and if I dont do this, I end up with split ends and have to start cutting off hair :(. When I take care of it properly, my hair grows great.

I voted "I don't wear weave/extensions"

I've only worn weave for 1 week out of my entire life  ... and I've only worn twist extensions for 1 week out of my entire life :lachen: ...

So I wouldn't know if my hair grew better with them or not.

I think the speed of growth is about the same, but with extensions and weaves, my hair seems to get thinner and was not conditioned as much.

My hair has done much better w/o extensions or weaves - as long as I take care of it and condition it properly.

My hair grows best with extensions. My ends are tucked away and I don't manipulate my hair as much. As a matter of fact I'm putting myself on a personal weave challenge to grow out my hair by the end of this year.
