Craving Red Hair

Yes, I love to have auburn/red hair... but I also want long healthy hair... the solution... extensions! Add the red extension via braids, weaves, crochet, whatever... and your hair stays healthy.

Yes red is lovely. My hair is great cos it has a strong black, then you see it in the light / sun and it has brown red tones. Love it.

The bar from Lush is great. Went in there over the summer and it smelt wonderful. I still have a packet of the powder so i didnt want to be a product junkie. I'm gona wait and try it. Let us know if you use it. I'll expect a review on your blog :)

I *love* red!!!!!! Right now, my hair is always in braids, so I always opt for red extensions with some ginger highlights. Sounds weird but looks awsome!!! :)

love red, but my hair is more than 50% gray, so it doesn't look good on me, it doesn't take equally when my roots are very white. (only 37,been gray since I was in my early 20s)

Just remember to use a conditioner the hair alot more. Red can be drying. Also, it fades fast. I love the color, but it fades so fast. So you may want to invest in a conditioner that can deposit color along with cond. too.

This is very true. Also make sure your water is mildly tepid when washing/cowashing. Exerpt from article:

Red
hair color fades the fastest of all the dyes. This trait is due to the red color molecule being the largest of all the colors molecules, and, as a result, it washes out very easily.

Do:
1. Select a red dye with some brown tones to make the color hold longer.

2. Ask your stylist (if you are getting your highlights done professionally) if he or she would like you to wash your hair the day of your appointment. Some prefer freshly washed hair, while others think a day’s worth of your hair’s natural oil protects the scalp from chemicals in the dye.
3. Invest in color-enhancing shampoos or, at least shampoos that are made for color-treated hair.

Don’t:
1. Wash your hair everyday after getting the highlights – if possible; minimize the amount of times you shampoo in order to slow fading.
2. Go too radical. A light natural blonde will have a much more difficult time achieving the Lucile Ball look than a brunette.
The large size of red molecules can’t penetrate blond hair very well and makes it difficult to get beyond a strawberry blond.

For the rest of the article, http://www.essortment.com/lifestyle/redhighlightst_sgwd.htm. While I don't agree w/everything, there are some good points.

Must be something in the air because I had that thought today. I might settle for a rinse after my next retouch. Don't know yet...

I am a red head now, always love red hair but I am thinking about going jet black, Red hair is so hard to keep up sometimes, I think that is why I am getting tired of it....I say all that to say...I LOVE RED HAIR...

Glad I am a natural blonde, so I can henna for red! I mixed 4/5th henna with 1/5 indigo for my red, chemical-free. I have decided that I'm a permanent red head!!!

I might go red in the Spring time.....i'm in a jet-black phase right now. A rinse of course....i use the Beautiful Collection by Clairol professionals from Sally's....i LOVE Sally's!! lol

Wheezy's got me eyeballin' those colorshowers!! I think I'm gonna wait until I get my hair healthy and to APL before I do any color though.

Can anyone recommend a "Permanent" brand? Please, no henna my hair doesn't like henna. THanks

bumping.. name your red hair brand and method.. product you used to get it red and how you keep it from drying out

I permanently colored my hair.

The key for me was making sure my hair was super healthy before the color. I used Softsheen Carson Hi Rez in Scarlett Splash. I still wash and condition my hair as usual. I use Joico Kpak products, Giovanni, Kenra conditioners and WEN. I refresh and play with my color by using semipermanent rinses.

I've got blonde highlights now but I will probably add a few red streaks next summer. I tried it this summer but it faded. :ohwell:

I used Dark n Lovely, color Red Hot Rhythm. The color was amazing. When the sun hit it, it was so pretty. This was before LHCF so i have no pics of it. ;)

I'm coming to the red family.. on Friday!! Hopefully my color showers will be here.. I'm mixing Mahogany and Cobre..and having Eisani on speed dial..lol! I'm not ready for a full head of just red yet.. even though once my stylist gave me some Keyshia Cole looking highlights ..lol..after he rinsed it with the brown it was HOTT.. but I couldn't do the "RED" like the crayon red look..

How well do the colorshowers show up on naturally near-black hair? :look: If it's just gonna be a "when the sunlight hits you" thing I won't even bother.

If you need me, call me!! Before you do anything, look at the Cobre and follow up with me! Better yet, snap a pic of it and send it to my phone . What are you doing, just the top of your hair or pieces, like chunks or highlights?

PM Wheezy, I think her natural color is very dark.
