Am I the only one who is really annoyed by this line of thinking?

Why do some women say this? WTH does it even mean? You got a man and? you want a cookie or something?

Sorry guys I guess i'm kinda ranting:blush:. I was just on another forum and came across this ever so popular sentiment among some women and I want to know why do some women say this as if having a man is the ultimate prize?:perplexed

Women who say this get the side eye. And 99% of the time, they're with men who also get the side eye.

They are proud of their man. When I hear it, I don't take it as any shade on me. Usually the man that they speak of is of no interest to me, so it doesn't bother me.

I think some women spew forth those words in an effort to make other's feel bad, if they don't have a man. That phrase and hater is thrown around entirely too much and it doesnt bother men. I usually chuckle when I hear them.

I never thought of it this way. I thought that if someone said it they meant "you don't have a man" or "he may be horrible but at least I got a man."

I see people say this in real life. When you say how their man is a dog and ain't ****, and YOU don't have a man, they say "at least I got a man!" Girl! Well you can keep your kang! is what I say in my head.

This is usually my interpretation as well...i'm interested to see how others understand it's meaning

Lol only girls with a kang on their hands say this, I've heard this so many times I could cry :lachen:

"At least I got a man" is said in response to something. No one just comes out the blue and says "aww, my dude came home last night and cooked me dinner. At least I got a man". :drunk::drunk:

Its meant to throw shade. And 99% of the time it fails because dude is :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Lol @ "the conscious kang" ... it almost sounds ... upper echelon?

If a woman said this to me I would give her the smug smirk of her life.

If I was in a particularly no nonsense mood I'd let her know that A) she's got mixed up values; B) her entitlement is baseless because "getting a man" is a menial accomplishment, or at least it is for me; C) The men who want to marry me that I don't want are probably 10x better catches than the man she snagged on some jumpoff status. Then I'd probably sprint outta there or grab my pepper spray because I can't fight .

Yeah, so I probably wouldn't actually think to say all of that on my feet- but it was fun to writing out such a great response to foolery :lol:

I have heard this before, and I can honestly say in every single case the "man" in question was not EVER one that I would even give the time of day to (not even if he was the very last man on earth). I know it's being said to throw shade, but it still just makes me shake my head.

And I was going to actually make this exact thread!

God I hate this phrase! What are women who say this trying to say? That they're better than me because they have a "man." Do they not realize there man is in same clothes they've been wearing for three days, sitting on their couch scratching himself and STILL not looking for a job?!?! What is it about this women that makes me think that I would even CONSIDER a fool like that? Even if they aren't horrifying, but just mediocre I still feel no envy that they have someone. My best friend actually believed having a boyfriend was a neccessity and couldn't go a month without one. She put my singleness down a regular basis, as if I'd suffer some disaster because I didn't have a man. It was so pitiful.

I believe that these women suffer from low self image and cling men to give themselves self worth. If they had any self respect they'd never use that line. It just means that unless they have "a man", they mean nothing.

I guess this is something people say when they feel they're being attacked for their dating choices. Think of all the other times you say "at least I have a __" You know your job sucks, but at least you have a job in these rough times. You know your car is busted, but at least you have a car so you don't have to wait in the rain for the bus. You know your man is not so great, but at least you have one and are not alone. It's a kind of desperate defensive reply, for you try to comfort yourself when things aren't as good as you would like.

I'm still laughing at this:lachen:

I cringe when I hear a woman spew forth this foolishness. I think that a woman that makes this statement is desperate and will put up with any crap from a man just to "have a man".

Women like that get on my nerves and they are always thinking that someone wants that piece of mess with a Penis, GIRL BYE

Whenever I heard it, it was definitely to throw shade like others have mentioned.

I guess these women think that having a man validates them. Not a good look imo.
