EDIT: Tutorial is here. How I flat iron my hair

So I did my hair today FINALLY after about 3+ weeks of being straight LAZY. I clarified with CON since I had used cones during my last flat iron, and then I did a protein treatment with Emergencee and Sebastian.

Then I went ahead and used a mix of some condishes that I have since they were running close to empty. Was going to attempt to flexirod, but my rollers are waaaaaaay too big, so instead I went back to my trusty blow dry and flat iron. Only this time, I used shea butter (along with my usual post-wash products) prior to flat ironing instead of Sabino, and my god was it lovely! Made flat ironing VERY easy despite me being so lazy on the blow drying portion of styling.

I absolutely love love LOVE my Sedu. My hair isn't very dense in terms of hair typing, but I still love how sleek it makes the hair. In this pic, the left side of my hair is done and the right is just blow dried.

Thanks ladies! I'm one of those transitioners who just has to use heat to maintain my hair, its waaaay too cold for a wash-n-go or anything like that. The Sedu has literally saved me! I dropped it a few months back and wanted to cry because I thought I broke it

Your results are so pretty.

I wish my hair liked the flat iron..:ohwell:.

I have alot of fine textured hair and when I was relaxed and tried to flat iron my hair..it just laid there looking at me.

I am about 20 months post and tried flat ironing a while back..same results.

Did u ever try flat ironing and then pin curling to get some volume? If I was to just flat iron my hair like above and doobie it or leave it alone, it would be bone straight which I personally don't like. Pin curling gives it some definition and volume for me and creates Farrah Fawcett waves that I lurrrrrve :lick:

I am also transitioning with like 3 inches of hair:look::lachen:! But, why is it important to use heat to maintain your hair? I have used heat a little bit, but I was wondering why transitioners have to do this.

Very, very nice...i'll look into a sedu and using shea...i can not for the life of me, flat iron and get results like that...now if i go to the salon, yep, on target. i'm 11 months post...

It's not important to use heat. In fact a lot of transitioners opt to not use heat at all - I did this back during the summer. Cowashing every day might've worked back then, but then I got

a. bored with bunning
b. tired of cowashing and attempting to airdry
c. i was losing more hair by manipulating my hair every single day into a ponytail or bun.
d. my hair was getting mushy and limp from all the daily cowashes.

That's just ME. I can't speak for everyone else, but once I put heat back into my regimen, my hair is thriving. I've trimmed my hair once back a few weeks ago which was the first time in over a YEAR (yes, that's right) that I had trimmed my hair. I get a few split ends here and there, but it's the same amount that I've always had even while protective styling and everything, so all it takes is an S&D session and I'm good.

Plus, its easier to blend the textures and I keep this style for about 3 weeks or so before it's time for a wash again. I DC often and I don't really manipulate my hair much when its like this because all it takes is letting it down in the morning and pin curling it at the end of the day.

Once all of my texture is 100% natural though, I'll be switching back and forth between curly and straight. (Which is what I'm most excited for!)

Right?! Them buns had me feeling like a librarian all the damn time :lachen:

You can do it! I use small sections, and I use just a dollop of warmed up shea butter on my hair wet, then I blow dry, and flat iron in small sections.

Beautiful new growth and final result! I think you're gonna have alot of fun with your hair when you reach your goal. happy journey to ya:yep:

You did an awesome job with your hair. My hair could grow to my feet and I would still be trying to find a way to bun it! I don't have the patience for anything else.
