How hot do you set your flat iron?

I have been reading some threads on flat ironing and they mention temps in excess of 400 degrees . I couldn't ever remember setting my iron that high, and sure enough when I went to check my trusty iron was set to a whopping....160 :lachen:. Mind you last time I did my hair I used a blow dryer to straighten followed by the iron (and heat protectant between both) and it was swingin like nobody's business.

ladies who flat iron: are you natural or relaxed? how high do you turn up your iron?

I'm transitioning. That being said I set it to about 250 my hair never became silky straight. I recently ordered Sabino Moisture Block and read a few threads so once I get my product I am going to turn my flat iron (sedu) up to 350 max. Although Sabino recommends that you turn your flat iron up to 450 I just cant.....:perplexed

I use my Maxiglide and that goes up to 430 and I put it on an 8. The max is 10 so Im guess an 8 is just under 400.

My hair is natural. I used to use a Maxiglide and had it set to 3 or 4. I purchased a Sedu one year ago and started out at 320. A few months ago I read an article that scared me into turning it down to less than 280.

I set mine at between 230-280. With that said, it doesn't get my hair as silky as a higher temp would & that's part of the reason why I rarely flat iron; I, personally, can't put that high heat on my hair while I'm trying to retain length (I'm relaxed).

I've set mine as high as 450°F in the past, don't think I'll be doing that again. 400°F is perfect for my hair.

370= silky smooth :lick: Sometimes I turn it down a bit... But anything 300 & lower is pointless. My hair just poofs back up again.
