2013/2014 Brides Roll Call & Random Thoughts :-)

My Save The Dates just arrived and they came out beautifully! Can't wait to address them all and send them out!

I mailed my second batch today. I was so nervous. Wondering what people will think when they see it. Knowing that everything is really in motion now. I feel so silly feeling antsy. Lol

Congratulations to all the ladies in this thread! I have just read this whole thread and I start a new job tomorrow so need to get to bed!

I got engaged on NYE and the wedding is 6th September, I have booked the reception venue, need to pay for the ceremony venue, I have given notice of marriage to my borough, I have booked a registrar for the ceremony, tasting session with caterer is 2nd march, I have a super organized friend of a friend who has agreed to coordinate on the day and find me some non expensive waiting staff (we have 200 guests), I have found the lowest price possible for chair covers, crockery, my FH has organised the DJ, hoping to bash out STD this weekend, but I am waiting for the slate board that we will hold in each pic, which will have the date scrawled on. I've decided to have fake flowers apart from my bouquet and I know that I want a mermaid dress without a doubt and have seen a few online, but I think I need to have the 'going to a shop' experience.

I have felt quite stressed but I am making progress so should hopefully be OK.

In terms of what's left:
Book honeymoon
Book photographer
Buy drinks
Bridesmaid dresses
Book hair and makeup person
Buy center pieces
Build wedding website
Print table plan, place names
Arrange car
Book hotel for the day
Send actual invitations to those deemed too technologically unsavvy to RSVP online

Mailed out my Save The Dates and a few people have already let me know that they received theirs.

I miscalculated how many I would need and I'm going to have to order about 10 more. Between that and postage, I will have spent about $230 just on Save The Dates alone. I see now that my dream of having super fancy invitations isn't going to happen. It would end up in the thousands for what I want. That's just too expensive. :nono:

^^^^^^^ yep the costs do add up, this is why I wanted to do the STDs send everyone to the wedding website and only send paper invites to the oldies

FINALLY going to give my final approval for my invites so that the printers can finally start since they will be letterpress. It's almost too late, but I obsess over such little details. smh

Also, decided instead of a second dress (which I wasn't going to do anyway, but lets me justify this), I'm going to get a 2nd pair of shoes! Just placed my order. Plus, I'm afraid the CL's will be too uncomfortable to wear the entire day. So excited since I can wear them again after the wedding.

Ladies I went to a bridal expo this weekend. Oh em gee it was super fun!. I thought I knew it all, but there were so many vendors with different ideas it really introduced me and made me think of new things. The photo booths were so much fun. And the slow motion video booth was amazing yet way out of my budget. Lol

There was so much free stuff it was ridic. By the end of the day i had 3 totes bags full of stuff i felt like i was stealing. Lol

I can't wait to go again. If there is one in your area you should def go. I won a free tux for fh's dad. And they gave $500 bucks(on paper) to spend towards any vendor you want. I was so happy for the girl that won the honeymoon to st. Kitts. ;-)

Apart from that fh customized a logo for our wax seal so that should be coming in the mail soon. We will incorporate that on our invites.

(I tried to add pics but the app keeps crashing on my phone as usual ugh)

Hey @CandiedLipgloss,

Do you mind sharing the name or website for the event you attended?

I have not found one comprehensive list of local wedding shows! I would love to attend an all-weekend CONVENTION-type event with multiple venues and multiple vendors under one roof.

TIA

Hey @ CurliDiva I use this site: http://www.perfectweddingguide.com/

What I like about them is that you can put in your city and it will pretty much pull up all the bridal shows for the rest of the year. I am going to another one on Sunday, I am excited. The ticket was $25 but I contacted the event organizer and she gave me the ticket for free. Let me know if you have any luck!

Yes, ladies. Keep going to those bridal shows. I won some many things going to them including an all-inclusive honeymoon to Mexico!

Is it terrible that I don't want my (only) sister as my Maid of Honor?

No. If you're not close like that, then don't ask her. Ask who you really want and then have your sister do something else(maybe a reading?) if you have to put her in the wedding somehow.

Don't feel pressured to do anything you don't want to do.

Yes please pick who you really want, and who will be super supportive. I made that mistake and picked her because shes my sister. Even she expressed her surprise stating that she thought i would pick a cousin that i was closer too.

Im not.going.to renege now. But i have friends that are.my bridesmaids and they are far more involved and supportive than her. :-/

I agree with the other ladies. I almost chose my sisters as MOH's out of guilt when I didn't pick them initially. I'm so glad I stuck to my guns because the way they are acting now, I'm reminded of why I didn't choose them in the first place!

And, oh geez my guest list has grown out of control. My mother just called me to say she forgot to tell me about more people to invite and to order more invites. Mind you, my invites are being printed as we speak! Does she know how much they cost?! Now I have to order 25 more, which are likely going to be more expensive had I ordered them initially (per the company's policies). :spinning: I was okay with the price for my invites, but going above budget does not make me happy. :nono:

I would.let her pay for the extras she wants.

FH just proposed on 2/27 and we set a date of 10/3/14.

We went to a bridal show where we won free engagement photos and 50% off of full wedding planning services. I hadn't planned on hiring a wedding planner but so far she has been worth it and for the price I couldn't say no.

Already done:

Secured the venue

Still need to do:

Everything else!

I am going to my first dress appointment tonight. I am going alone because I have no idea what I want. So i'm hoping this will help me narrow down a style before I invite my mom and maid/matron of honors along.

By week's end I will have a photographer secured. We are still deciding on a videographer. I would love one but they are so expensive. We also have a few caterer appointments this weekend.

I know people have planned fabulous weddings in less time but I'm already feeling strapped for time (maybe in my head).

Picking a VENUE is hard! We're planning to keep our headcount small, so I don't need a huge ballroom but I want a really NICE venue since his family is travelling in (from Canada) for the ceremony.

Ideally, waterfront views for an outdoor ceremony and then an elegant, indoor reception in Maryland.
