I just bought some shea butter for the first time. Any advice on what I should mix it with to put on my hair? I'm sure there are previous posts. I'll search for those too. Thanks for your help.

Virgin Coconut oil...i mean I couldn't imagine anything else mixing so well together to the extent that it feels like silk!

I mixed it w/ organic (now brand) jojoba oil and rosemary (weleda).

Started using it w/ heat (flat irons) after i straightened. I had lots of shine and i used it straight.

Past 2 weeks i used my homemade mix after straightening and ilove it even MORE!

But it gets heavy after a couple days on my fine hair.
I also used it last night for a braid out and that seems to have gone well also.

I mixed it in my blender and it does feel very creamy and silky since i mixed.HTH.

whip it with coconut oil.
shea butter is way heavy to my hair, so i whip it w/ coconut oil and use it when i need something hardcore.
i love it.

the last batch i mixed was with organic coconut oil, organic olive oil, hairobics growth stimulate oil, olive oils wrap/set mousse (*1/2 ounce) and john friedas frizz ease styling gel . I always twist or braid my hair wet and I saturate my hair with a spritz (olive oil and water lol) section by section *as i go* with the product.

It always looks crazy when I'm done because its just sitting on my hair but the next day let me tell you my hair feels like a cloud lol. I like my hair to be moistured and soft and I like to have that hold in there so I experiment with products. I'm too lazy to oil my scalp every day and even every other day but when I do my super mixes 9thats what i call them) then my hair really stays moistured for the next 3 to 5 days. I love it!And that last batch was the best mixture yet

I do my hair at night before I go to bed. Also I used Giovanni's Direct leave in. I have very thick hair so this may or may not work for you. I also co wash after about 4 -5 days and dc (and I mix the hell out of all these conditioners also, and add olive oil to that) with heat. If I dont take my hair down then I just moisture with giovannis leave in, and my spritz until the next time then I may do a light shampoo (hairobics again) and start all over

I'm not natural but I'm taking notes. I love shea butter. Actually, I love heavy pomades and creamy leave-ins too. My hair is pretty coarse.

I might start mixing mine with raw coconut oil.

coconut oil, castor oil, and aloe vera gel....in that order :)

(and 2 drops of vitamin E oil to preserve)

I am glad you mentioned Vitamin E because shea can go bad (real bad) after a mix. :nono:

I use shea butter, cocoa butter, castor oil from Wal Mart, EVOO, Jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, about four tablespoons of Vitamin E Oil and as essential oil....enough to have a clear scent. Vit E is such a great healer, so that's why I add more of it.

I start with 2 tubs of shea and 5 cylindrical containers of cocoa butter and make enough for the whole family. DH loves it!

It's very soft and creamy-like....great for the winter and not as heavy or hard to use as regular shea. It emulsifies so well.... (I use it on my body too....especially my feet.:grin:)

Well I don't mix my shea. I emulsify it between my hands then add any nearby oil on top and rub that with it.
