I took a page from Glamazini and added the following to my Afrikan Republic Shea Butter:

Coconut Oil
Castor Oil
Amla
Essential Jasmine Oil
Glycerin
I might have added some Vatika also, I don't remember...

cinnamin2891, try fromnaturewithlove.com
I get mine from sheabuttercottage.co.uk, but I'm in Europe. I've read positive things about fnwl. HTH

thanks anherica. i've been to the site, but they actually refine their shea butter, which is supposed to take out most of what's good about it in the first place :(.

anymore suggestions? :yep:

^^I found my shea butter at an african store in KC but I also bought it off them computer at africansheabutter.org. My sister made my batch and I believe she whipped it up with jojoba, coconut, and rosemary oil. I use it when I twist my hair and when it feels dry when I do a wash and go

thank you - will try this site!

I have ordered from camdengrey.com and mountainroseherbs.com. I have been pleased with both sites.

r u guys melting the shea butter first?
i did the glycerine and castor oil with it but i need to find a scent it stinks so bad

yah I think you melt the butter a little but my sister used one of those high tech mixers that turn for u...(u see I have no clue...lol). And lets it mix for an hour or so. Try some essential oils for the smell! Lavender or rosemary are my favs

Actually, question.

Do you melt your shea butter repeatedly? I run my bottle of shea butter under hot water to get it to soften/liquify, but it always firms right back up a few hours later. Does this happen to you too?

Subscribing. I hope if I whip/mix it with something else it will actually moisturize my hair instead of just drying hard on top.
:nono: thats what happened when i used unrefined SB a couple times... I could never understand the raves from people with the same hair type as mine until I saw this video on YT
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qDiYyMnwXc....best moisturizing SB mix ever...only difference is I added moisturising gel (instead of aloe vera gel...my hair doesnt like AVG) and vit e oil (instead of honey...to preserve mix) to my mix:yep:...HTH

I melted my shea butter only once in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds b4 I mix in other ingredients....my mix is creamy and since I apply to braids I rub between the palm of my hands for a few seconds b4 applying to hair...HTH

Thanks. For some reason, I just imagined it in a spray bottle. Maybe this is why it was perplexing. Thanks. :yep:

Thanks for this! I'm glad this mix worked for somebody. I have this video in my list of favorites on YT but have been too lazy to actually make it:rolleyes:. Maybe I'll get off my butt this weekend and put this mess to some use! Honey is not a preservative right? I don't have any Vit E oil or any essential oils, what else can I use to preserve it or should I just refridgerate it?

I thought it was.. I might be wrong though...maybe the ladies can chime in?

To my knowledge, Honey is considered a natural preservative b/c it discourages the growth of bacteria. That's why it's so good for acne, and has been used to treat wounds.

Anyone tried mixing it with Mango Butter? I ordered unrefined Shea and Mango and I've been going back and forth over what I should mix it with.

Have any one tried adding MTG or MEG TEK to Shea Butter and what happen?

I hope not. For hair growth those should both be used on the scalp not the hair. It is definately NOT a good idea to put MTG all through your hair, that stuff stinks to high heaven and it's super greasy.

im going to buy some aloe vera gel this weekend so that i can make a really creamy shea butter mix. i have some she butter just sitting around so i might as well do something with it.

im also going to add coconut oil, cocasta oil and maybe some unrefined avocado oil.

Ladies, as I have said on the natural forum, when you mix shea butter with glycerine or aloe gel unless your going to keep in refridgerated, it will be a breeding ground for bacteria and mold. Best bet, go to a place like www.fromnaturewithlove.com
and order some preservative. Nothing wrong w/being a kitchen chemist, but when you start mixing oils and butters w/water bases then that becomes dangerous. And no grapefruit seed extract or vitamin e DOES NOT COUNT!

I make a butter with castor oil and Olive Oil:lick:
Next batch I'm going to try mixing it with Castor and Avocado oil
