*****MY DOMINICAN DISASTER*****

I recently told you all about my Dominican experience and how pleased I was with the results.
Well, that was all before I decided to wash my hair last night.
As soon water hit my hair a terrible burnt smell filled the shower and my hair was not reverting like it usually does.
I washed it and conditioned it and as I de-tangled it with my fingers, clumps of hair fell out.
SO was in the shower with me and he had to pry my fingers out of my hair while I was screaming and crying. (He knows all about LHCF and my obsession with my hair).

So I did an overnight protein treatment and my hair is still limp and dead. It looks like I had a bad perm, some pieces are stick straight and some pieces are wavy. My thick, bouncy and curly natural hair is ruined and as of today I am starting my second transition. 2 years of growing my hair out and being diligent and protecting my hair....down the MF-ing drain.

I am do disappionted and totally devastated.
I don't want to post any pictures at this point because my almost APL natural hair is gone and I don't need any forther reminder of mo how effed up my hair is.

I just hope that if you are considering doing a DB, think long and hard, and never underestimate the damage heat can do to your hair.

I feel your pain. I went and got myself a DB for my birthday 4/17 and first of all the man didn't want to detangle my hair. He took me straight from the washing bowl to the chair to blow fry my hair:wallbash: then he proceeded to brush and dry my hair without detangling. I was complaining, blah, blah, blah, fast forward, my hair is now thinner in the back. Mind you, that was the first time since finding this site that I have EVER been to any shop:rolleyes: but I didn't want to relax my hair just yet and I was loving how the ladies at my job hair was blinging so I decided to go. Now I'm in the process of thickening my hair back up again. I will never, ever, in my life step foot into another shop:nono:I've been going hard on my vitamins, boundless tresses, and protein drinks and my hair is thickening back up. You'll get through this and once you get past this, don't ever step foot inside an ****** shop again. Those ppl are :drunk:.

I like 2 mins from the salon you are talking about and the chick name Maria is actually my best friends cousin and I don't even go there anymore. And if you don't know Spanish they will talk about you like a dog. A lot of women still go their because its cheap and your hair does have that swang when you come out. But I'm Dominican and I never get a dominican blowout...it's just way to much heat. Yea they will charge you extra if you are natural or have any type of kinks sometimes they will even try to convince you to get a relaxer. They will hook your hair up though.

I am so sorry about your hair girl. You shoulda hit me in PM first and I would have told you not to get that service done. But everyone learns their lesson. And again I am very sorry about your experience.

Sounds like my story this weekend i went to Lopez and got a wash and set but i only make them blow the roots out. The dam wash lady washed my hair with some bullcrap and i got a deep condition with mizani hydrfuse so how the hell my hair came out feeling like a brillo pad i was so tight anyway after the roller set i got my roots blown out then wrapped my hairi came out fine but looks dry because of whatever foolishness she washed my hair with. this morning im checking my ends out i was like what the hell happened because i look at my ends everyday to make sure no split ends are coming in my ends were fried tips were white and all flipping jacked up now i got to get some help im going to get my scissors and get rid of what ever i can find dam them never again

Hey I'm Dominican too! I go to the salon once a year if that now. I'm a DIYer.

One word of caution to anyone that goes to ANY salon, whether its a Dominican, Ethiopian, African American, etc... always go on a referral. I've had Dominican stylists jack my hair up, I've had some make my hair look like a supermodel LOL its all up to the individual person. Please don't let anyone do whatever they want with your hair. If you feel something is wrong please speak up. Now in the case of MissNorway I'm starting to wonder if the lady was mad that she had to deal with somebody with natural hair (it happens to me too) and she just put the setting from hot to on fiyah. If a stylist gives you an attitude about your hair, please walk out! Maybe its superstitious of me, but I feel like people can send those negative vibes right to my hair. Oh hell no.

Miss norway DO NOT cutt your hair. I had a similar thing happen to me. You just need to be dilligent with your protein treatments. Your hair will come back.

I'm so sorry this happened to you sweetie :bighug:

That's how I feel, but I didn't know if it was okay for me to voice it lol. As soon as I read that she was making faces, whatever...about your natural hair, I was like "Oh lawd..." :nono: I'd have walked out too. I'd be mad because I didn't get what I came for lol, but I'd rather be mad about that then be mad later because she jacked my hair up. As someone else stated earlier, I think you're due reparation fees as well...Bet that *insert expletive here* knew what she was doing.:swearing:

You are not alone MissNorway. I too have some heat damage now, after so many folks gave this stylist good reviews too! It's just a small patch in front though, I am going to try my darndest to nurse it back to its curly glory though. :yep: Heat is really Russian Roulette, one time is enough. :nono:

In no way would I ever laugh at anyone's bad hair experience, and I am sooooo deeply sorry that your DB didn't work well. Thank you for reminding us of the damage that high heat can do. I am crying with you.

....but pouring likka for your dead hair is pretty darn funny. You
have a great sense of humor...better than me, lady.

Again, I am so sorry this happened to your hair...

Sweetie I am soooooooo sorry. I hate that happen to you. Keep working with it. Lots of hugs to you..

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. That is crazy. Dominican salons really do use to much heat!

I was thinking the same thing.
I know a tiny little Spanish ans he said things like; I had bad hair, that I had a huge head and that i had horse hair. And she laughed real good at it too.
Unfortunately I am a very non-confrontational person and I just let it ride out. I think she might have put some bad energy on my hair, because it smells like a perm and it feels like a perm. At any rate, I will put this in the book of life along with back stabbing friends and cheating boyfrinds...they are all lessons and blessings to take along with you as life rolls along.

Girl, I would still be crying my eyes out..I have to laugh about it...lol

No, I am a very non-confrontational person.
I wouldn't know what to say.

I will take this as a very bitter learning experience.
Girl, I am right down the street. I'll do it for you!

I haven't finished reading the thread yet, but I hope you can undo some of the damage. I just hit 2 years of being relaxer free/1 year post BC and have no clue what I would do if someone burned my hair straight, other than burn something of theirs.

I am so sorry this happened to you.

Umm...are you sure he said horse hair? Your hair is so beautiful so I can't imagine that. I am just hoping he said 'cabello' which means 'hair' and not 'caballo' which means horse. Pelo & cabello = hair.

Don't get me wrong...I am still ready to kick his butt for you all the way back to La República Dominicana I just don't want you to feel worse than necessary!

i am so sorry this happened to you. your hair will turn around in no time. plus your hair grows so fast, it will be back before you know it!

((hugs)) im so sorry this happened to u. Damn I know this is traumatizing. Ive' been going to dominican salons in NYC since the 80's, grew up around them(wash heights) and understood a lil. Caught a few saying stuff. i never went daily. the most was probabaly a once a month blowout and rarely that.

I agree, its like making a Chef mad..you dont know what hes going to do to your food while hes cooking it:nono: Although i know you did nothing to deserve this but if your getting bad vibes walk away slowly..lie if you have to:lachen:

OP, i know how you feel about the clumps of hair falling out. I relaxed my hair way back in October and my hair was looking delicious right after rinsing..then i started to comb and clumps of hair was coming out..i mean GOLF ball sizes. I was in shock i couldnt even THINK, i swear my heart was jumping out of my chest:crying3: I just sat there and looked at it..thats how much i was in shock:lachen::nono: I hope you feel better and i can just feel how much pain you are in, just think that your hair will grow back 3x better:yawn:

MissNorway, I hope you are ok.

Can you go to a professional salon and see if the woman really did indeed put a relaxer in your hair? I believe that it's illegal to put a chemical without consent.

She used heat protectant, but no heat protectant in the world could prevent my hair from damage after all the heat they use.
Just because your hair is 100% natural doesn't mean it's unbreakable. Our hair is still very fragile.

I am truly sorry that this happened to you. I had a bad experience at a Dominican salon years ago, and I have sworn those salons off ever since. I went for a press & curl.

First of all, I had to get my hair washed twice b/c I didn't like how the shampoo guy washed it. After he was "done," there were still soap suds in my hair. Plus, the first question he asked me was, "When's the last time you had a perm?"

Then there was the blowdrying experience:blush:. I've never had anything so hot against my scalp in my life. In fact, I'm surprised that I had a scalp afterwards.

Then the beautician flat ironed my hair. She just sprayed some oil sheen on my hair before flat-ironing. My already-fine hair looked limp to the 10th degree.

Never again will I visit a Dominican salon.

I have been admiring your progress. I am so sorry to hear about this. With lots of TLC, I hope your hair recovers quickly from this

Hey, sorry you had to go through this. I have had many a hair disaster over the years but with patience and prayer my hair has grown back even better than before...Give it time, its a great healer...

God bless...
