I'm really sorry Miss Norway- I had a similar experience- I ended up cutting a little at a time and as my hair grew out it wasn't that bad. just trim a little off a time. You have suckh thick and fast growing hair it seems- so I know you will get where u want to be in no time.

I am so sorry that you are losing your hair! I've been there and done that myself, and there really isn't really anything that can make you feel better right now but getting your hair back! I wish there was something I could do, but I have a feeling that you'll bounce back with better hair than before! Sending lots of hugs and better hair days your way!!!!

oh man..I'm sorry. I got a DB..and I also experienced the burnt smell..and my hair did shed. I will only get this done once in a blue moon.

I am not a natural but maybe you should wait it out for 2-3 weeks to see if the hair comes back around in terms of your curls and then, cut. I AM SO SORRY that it happened.

I am doing heavy treatments right now. I bought the Paul Mitchell deep treatment and I will just soak my hair in moisture. I don't want to be a pessimist but it doesn't look good, my hair is so thin. And my hair smell like perm...go figure.
I am just really disappointed...but thank God it was just hair and nothing serious...

Sorry, but it's not just hair when you've been doing your best to take care of it just to have it messed up by some overzealous stylist who probably used the highest heat setting on the dryer. Who knows how many times she went over the same spot to give it that super sleek look? You were better off blowdrying your hair yourself, then using a chi to straighten.

Just give it plenty of TLC and keep using the Paul Mitchell Treatment as many times a week as you NEED to followed by a good moisturizing conditioner. Try not to manipulate it too much if you can.

It will get better. At least now you know.

Sorry this happened. Stay on top of your moisture regimine and give your hair some time to bounce back, you've gotten some excellent advice here. I hope it works for you! Thanks for sharing this, I don't think I'll be going to any Dominican salons again.

I know, that's why I put the face there. I am seriously depressed over the state of my hair.. But all I can do is take heed and follow your recommendation. I found the Paul Mitchell but not the Goldwell Conditioner. Where did you buy yours?

MissNorway,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I had my regular hair dresser to burn my hair in a spot in the back of my head. When I washed my hair it broke off in one spot I guess she kept the hot comb there too long. (years ago)

Thank you for sharing with us. As long as it is not scalp damage your hair will come back better than ever. I personally don't trust hair dressers anymore, most are too business oriented.:dollar:

i am so sorry you had this experience. :bighug:you made such great progress. i wont say its only hair and it will grow back. (i and you know it will.) but what i will say is that your hair journey isnt over and it will be healthy and beautiful. just a setback, a little bump in the road.

*gasp* OMG. Girl, I am sooo sorry to hear about that, and we appreciate you taking the time out to let us know about your unfortunate situation. SMH. I am truly sorry, and I hope that you keep your head up and stay as positive as possible. :bighug:

MissNorway, you are probably entitled to some money for damages. Take pictures of your hair to document the damage.

I am so sorry this happened to you MissNorway!!!

You have a positive outlook and with that your hair will be on the grow and healthy in no time. Good luck with everything.

So sorry this happened to you, Miss Norway. You'll bounce back from it. I remember when I burnt the hell out of my hair. Clumps came out to. I was devastated. :( Take it one day at a time.

OMG I'm so sorry!

I just got a DB 3 weeks ago and my curls came back just fine. I had to tell the woman to take it easy with the heat tho. Did they rollerset you first?
Please don't cut your hair without first doing some serious deep conditioning! The curls might come back!

Yes, they did a rollerset first.
I don't think I can salvage my hair, it's thin and dead..It's worse than when I had a perm.
But I will continue to care for it. I just rinsed out the treatment and it's still breaking off and coming out in clumps.
All I can do is wipe my tears and start over...

MissNorway I am so sorry this happened to you. It just really sucks. I know what it's like to lose clumps of hair and it is quite traumatizing. I'm glad you are focused on moving forward though.

I have a question. Do you think they may have slipped some perm in their somewhere? I know somewhere in this thread you said it kind of smelled like a perm when you wet it. I was just thinking maybe you should neutralize just in case. I'm sure the conditioning you've done so far helped with that, but I'm just throwing it out there.

What's your plan going forward?

I'm sorry you had to deal with this. :nono:

Don't cut yet though. Find a protective style you like (maybe a phony pony?) that doesn't use too much tension and be gentle with your hair. Go out and try to enjoy the summer w/o thinking too much about it.

It needs some time to make a turnaround. Good Luck, like everyone else said, your hair grows in really fast, and really thick so it'll be back before you know it. Especially with what you learned here. :yep:

So sorry this happened to you... I have no advise at all but I can only imagine how you feel right now.

People tend to forget that Dominicans are NOT natural hair people and if it was up to them, they would just strap you in a chair, slap the perm in your head and get on with business.

The DB is meant for PERMED hair that has been released from ROLLERS. They never created it for unprocessed hair. The heat of the dryer is INSANE and this was back in the days when I was relaxed. After awhile I just opted for a doobie and just called it a day.

This may be true, but I know a TON of people with natural hair in DC who go to Dominican salons, either for blowouts or to get their hair flat-ironed. Trust me, their type 3 and 4 hair always reverts.

DBs get such a bad rap on this board, but it's definitely up to the individual to make her own hair choices. For instance, I tell them to use the blowdryer on my roots only & if they try to go over my hair with a flat iron at the end, I say no. It's as simple as that. You don't have to sit there in the chair & let them use more heat than your hair can take.

I commend Miss Norway for sharing her experience so that other people can be reminded how quickly our hair can become heat damaged.

Oh no MissNorway got the 40 Bouncer out!! :thud:

I got a headache just looking at this!!

I agree with the posts about you wearing your hair in protective styling for the summer, get a couple of half wigs and or phony ponys and nurse your locks back to health. Do some light dustings every 4 weeks or so....until it grows back in thick.

I lost and entire head of hair back Dec. 07. I mean I was near about skee-bald so I know how you feel and I also know how quickly you can turn this thing around. Trust me. I grew my hair back and I'm an old chick, I know you can do it easy

MissNorway I'm so sorry to hear this. My heart was literally in my mouth as I read your story. But it's hair and it WILL grow back. ((((HUGS))))
