*****MY DOMINICAN DISASTER*****

Big hugs to you Ms. Norway. I can completely relate to you. I had my first and last dominican experience. My hair smelled like it was freshly permed, I had similar results too with straighter pieces. The stylist I got to now Monica from Hair USA gives me the same results without as much heat.

I'm so sorry to hear that this happened to you. My hair is relaxed & I get blowouts all the time - the pic in my siggy is a Dominican blowout.

I can't even imagine what I would do if something like that happened to my hair. I go to Judith's in DC & they are always very gentle with my hair.

Wow! I have been looking for a salon to go to so I could get a DB for my 1 year nappiversary. After hearing your story I think I'll just stick with my kinky curls. You should definately let the stylist know what happened to your hair. It will grow back but its just the thought of having to take a step backwards. I feel your pain.

That is awful! SORRY! I remember when you did your BC and look how quick your hair grew, so I know you will have no trouble getting it back fast!!
With that said, It still sucks!

That's horrible. I had a similiar experiance a few years ago. i got a blowout, hot comb and flat iron used on my hair all at once. When i went to wash my hair a few days later my hair would not curl up...i was so scared. After a few more days of co washing and dc'ing most of my curls were back to normal. After a month or so it was like it always was...with minimal straight hairs (there were some that never did revert).

Best luck to you:bighug:

Wow, I am really sorry this happened to you :(

Maybe you can snip the damaged pieces? are the damaged pieces so long that you snipping them off will be obvious?

I am really weary of dominicans who use too much heat. I find that my hair looks as good as I'd like it when coming from a dominican salon is when they use medium or low heat, which allows the hair to have LOTS of body and bounce. Super high heat makes my hair hang limp and straight.

I hope as you continue to wash and condition, some of the strands will return to normal! or that you won't have to cut so much.

I am so sorry about your hair...that is horrible!! Ugh!!! I just cringe thinking about it! I'm glad your SO was there to help you :nono:

I NEVER thought those DB's were a good idea from what I heard about how they use those brushes and blow dryers. My hair just would never withstand that type of abuse. To me a pressing comb used by someone who knows what they are doing is much kinder to the hair.

I'm sorry to hear of this happening to you and I support you as you work to grow your hair back to its healthy state.

I'm so sorry this happened to you, maybe your hair just need a little while and a couple deep and protein treatments.

MissNorway,
Your hair will bounce right back. So sorry you had to go through this mess. TLC and moisture will get you back on track!

so sorry to hear this, but you have fab hair that grows really fast and beautiful, you'll be back and beyond your length in not time.

Oh my! I could feel your pain as you were typing! I'm so sorry this happened to you! I hope you don't have to cut it all off. Hopefully with TLC it willr evert to it's normal beautiful state!! much love!

Kris

I recently told you all about my Dominican experience and how pleased I was with the results.
Well, that was all before I decided to wash my hair last night.
As soon water hit my hair a terrible burnt smell filled the shower and my hair was not reverting like it usually does.
I washed it and conditioned it and as I de-tangled it with my fingers, clumps of hair fell out.
SO was in the shower with me and he had to pry my fingers out of my hair while I was screaming and crying. (He knows all about LHCF and my obsession with my hair).

So I did an overnight protein treatment and my hair is still limp and dead. It looks like I had a bad perm, some pieces are stick straight and some pieces are wavy. My thick, bouncy and curly natural hair is ruined and as of today I am starting my second transition. 2 years of growing my hair out and being diligent and protecting my hair....down the MF-ing drain.

I am do disappionted and totally devastated.
I don't want to post any pictures at this point because my almost APL natural hair is gone and I don't need any forther reminder of mo how effed up my hair is.

I just hope that if you are considering doing a DB, think long and hard, and never underestimate the damage heat can do to your hair.

OMG!!! Babygurl....please get a good reconstructive treatment...like Biosilk or K-pak..something like that. It'll take awhile to revert. My daughter's hair took 1 year to revert back to clumped curls rather than frizz. We'll never go again. You could also probably get some very good Dominican conditioners llike the garlic, sperm whale, la bomba (I think that's the name)....you need long-term deep conditioning. I'm sooooo sorry. Sounds like they were careless because you didn't have in the "alisado" or relaxer perm. And this thought comes to me too, after deep conditioning, try an organic or Indian almond oil to put in while it's still wet. This will help reconstruct and moisturize the hair.

Miss N I told my SO about your experience and showed him. He told me he was unsure about me trying that but agreed once we looked at your experience. I know you have any entire post of I'm sorry but I want to say thank you for sharing your EnTiRe experience. It has altered my decision but honestly for the good.

You are beautiful and your experience was not in vain. Thank you. Grow healthy, grow strong..:yep:

I"m really sorry that you experienced this. Thanks for sharing your experience to help others make their decisions. I know it's discouraging to have a setback, but if you got your hair to be gorgeous once, you can do it again. All the best..

Get Paul Mitchell's Hair Repair Treatment - it rebuilds hair from the inside out.

Then follow with Goldwell Kerasilk Rich Care Conditioner - will leave your hair feeling beautiful, soft, shiney, etc. It's expensive, but completely worth it.

I would use Paul Mitchell at least THREE TIMES a week until your hair is better. You can use Goldwell with every wash.

Both of these will get your hair back on track.

Another product that I absolutely LOVE is Tigi Bed Head Ego Boost - Split End Mender & Leave-in Conditioner! I have used this on my entire head, but now only concentrate on the ends and boy does it help keep them from breaking. You don't need a lot and can use it under your favorite styling product.

I notice that when I wash my hair now not that much hair breaks off as before. Maybe I'll start to see some length in a few months. I don't do controlled styles, so retaining length is not as easy as it would be if I kept it tied up in braids and such.

Aphogee Protein is another old-school standby that works great too. Again, you MUST follow it with a moisturizing conditioner (either their own or the Goldwell).

Sorry about your experience. I don't use heat on my hair in any capacity, except when I deep condition. I remember reading years ago about naturals who went through the same exact thing you did (minus the hair falling out) and deep conditioned like mad until their hair came back to normal.

Good luck!

People tend to forget that Dominicans are NOT natural hair people and if it was up to them, they would just strap you in a chair, slap the perm in your head and get on with business.

The DB is meant for PERMED hair that has been released from ROLLERS. They never created it for unprocessed hair. The heat of the dryer is INSANE and this was back in the days when I was relaxed. After awhile I just opted for a doobie and just called it a day.

I'm so sorry this happened to you! :nono: I would've been n crying too.:needhug: Keep giving it the same loving care you have been for the past two years and it'll come back.:giveheart:

Sorry this happened to you...I went to that salon to and refused to pay because when she finished my hair smelled like it had been burnt to a crisp and now my left side will not curl like my right!!! I should of known better because they kept asking me to get a relaxer (im transitioning) but i let them proceed anyways...we live and we learn and i found a shop in va beach that doesnt use as much heat but that made me aware and i only go every few months!!! With love and care i am sure you will be back on track :)

WOW! Ms. Norway. That makes me feel very sad. I know in time you will get your hair back on track.

Just treat it with lots of TLC. I am glad you didn't have to go through that alone.

I know. Because, I lost over 90% of my Hair due to Overprocessing (at a Salon). And I was at home alone Literally Watching Clumps and Handfuls of Hair Fall Off my Head.:ohwell:

Anyone that's ever been there knows it makes you feel Nauseated and Light-Headed like you are going to Pass Out. It's a terrible feeling. And it will bring you to Your Knees.

You are in the Right Place and You have so much Knowledge from being here. When it happened to me....I didn't know where to turn. Until I found LHCF.

My Heart Goes out to You and I Sinercely wish you the Best.:yep:

Gurl....

that is just HORRIBLE!!!! I am so, so sorry that this happened to you!!! :(
