3rd Big Chop on 7/18/2016
I knew her since JH, and she only had shoulder length hair until maybe just late 2006 to early 2007! She moved away and all of a sudden her hair grew to BSL! I asked her what she been doing and she told me that she does touch ups every 4 to 6 months, only go to the salon every 2 weeks for wash and sets, only uses hairspray (this is the part I don't believe to tough!) and only wears it one style which is wrapped at night and straight and flat in the day!

What do ya think could have made it grow so long

P.S. even though her hair is long, it's kinda got that bone straight look!
 
what exactly you think she's lying about? Her regimen? Or is it that you don't think it's all her hair or what?

Why do you think she's lying? You don't think her hair was able to grow past SL?
 
I know everyone hair regardless of your nationality can grow! it's just I think she's lying about her regimen! Hairspray! Come on!!!!!!! and only washing every two weeks

What do you mean by the bolded statement?

Her regi in JH may be totally different than what she does now. I was taught to only wash my hair once every couple of weeks.:ohwell: I can't imagine doing that now, but since she is going to the salon every 2 weeks it looks like her hair may be getting the proper maintenance it needs to grow.

Oh yeah one more thing, when people ask me what I do to get my hair "long" I give them the basics. She might not be necessarily lying to you, she probably just doesn't want to go into detail. I personally know people who look at me crazy:spinning: when I start giving them an entire breakdown of my regimen.

It is very possible to grow hair from shoulder length to BSL in a year. I Joined this site in June 2007..when I BCed in February my longest layer was 1 1/2 from BSL. Had I continued to grow my hair I would have been BSL by my one year anniversary.

I wonder why it matters to the OP so much... ok, say she IS lying?? Does it make YOU feel any better?? Vindicated?? its HER hair....

Maybe when she says hairspray, she's talking about something like oil sheen. I think it's very possible for hair to grow from shoulder length to brastrap in a year. And if all she's doing is wrapping it and going to the salon every other week, it seems like she's keeping her manipulation to a minimum which is likely how her hair grew. I know a lot of people that do the exact same thing and have long hair. I don't think it's that odd :ohwell:.
 
I guess you don't believe the hairspray thing. Maybe the hair spray is some type of moisturizer spray (ie scurl)... Why didn't you ask for more details? I would have since I'm actively growing my hair out.

She may not be lying because she is stretching, doing wash & sets, and wrapping at night...could be true...

Isn't she your friend? Wouldn't you be happy for her and her hair victory?
And - if it is a weave or fake, do you really care?

I am not sure I understand.

LOL that could be true! I'm glad that her hair is long and growing because alot of girls when they are younger learn the wrong way on how to treat their hair and now learn to properly treat their hair, I just wish she would share her ideas more in details because I tell my friends how they should care for their hair and it's no hating!

That's what friends are for, I know how to treat my hair now much differently than I did just a year ago and I tell my friends about the things I learn on this site and things that I knew all along!

Before I was natural I had a relaxer for almost 8 years, and my hair grew and was 1/2 inch from APL, but I didn't know what to tell them to get their hair that long and once I put a color in my hair I didn't even know what do for my own hair anymore!

Now that I'm a relaxed head again I know specificlly what works and not work for me! I tell all my friends what I do for my hair. I tell them about 65% and the other 35% I kept as a secret! lol
 
Maybe she just didn't feel like explaining and gave a very general and brief synopsis. I do the same thing all the time, especially if I just really don't feel like talking about it. Given the basic info, she sounds pretty low maint so why wouldn't it grow? If there is more to what she does and she just didn't want divulge all of her hair secrets, that's her right. The hairspray thing could be like someone else said an oil sheen or it could literally be a hair spray, like a scalp treatment, or her way of saying she doesn't use oils or grease. I don't know why we automatically think Aqua Net when we hear hair spray.

:lachen:PEOPLE ARE ALL UPSET! talkin about why can't u just be happy for her. . . and I am sayin that it ISN'T that u aren't happy for her. . . but u might really have wanted to know her secret. . . everyone just assumed that u were either "hatin" (I hate that word) or that u thought she was lying about her product or not tellin the truth about it being her hair. . .

i simply said that I would be hurt if I asked a friend "what made your hair so amazing?" and she lied or told me a half truth OR she was playin off a weave as her hair. . .
 
My girlfriend uses hairspray and spritz every single day she has waist length hair and its dyed black. she only washes once every two or three weeks. Her hair is extremely thin and see through when pressed, when washed and blowed dried its thick, very thick. She wears her hair in an updo 98% of the time. with weaves
 
She may be telling the truth.......I don't think she holding out on you.......When my hair was the longest ...I did not do anything special to it...

Don't worry about it....There is more than one way to get to the same place
 
I dont think she is lying. 3 yrs ago my hair was at midback and i washed every 2 weeks and i really didnt do anything..but yea check her scalp:lachen:

Try her regimen. It might work for you too.

IN MY OPINION, It's probably because since they've know each other for so long the OP figured her friend shouldn't be as secretive as she's been.

Lonei has wl hair and only washes every 3 weeks.
Sylver has wl hair and only washes every 2.
There are other long-haired ladies who have similar wash schedules.
In fact, I just switched from washing weekly to biweekly, in order to manipulate less during the later weeks of my stretch.

The hairspray is a bit surprising, but if she is not using harmful types of heat, and is using an oil-based sheen, then her regi is pretty solid.
