You are really trying to get it cracking in here, huh? There was nothing "oh snap" worthy about that statement. :ohwell:

Welp....... On that note....

I would say certain natural hairstyles aren't for everyone. I love twists and twist styles but they never look good on me, I'm good with pinned chunky twists, or twist braid outs. My hair does wash n go, but I haven't found a style that fits me like my big stretched hair.

I agree naturals on here and yt are fly. I get so many tips and inspirations that def set me apart from other natural I see on the daily. I love being unique.

If the case really is that natural hair is not for everyone because some women do not know how to take care of it in its natural state, then HAIR IN GENERAL is not for everyone because I see horrible relaxed heads just as I see horrible naturals. Relaxed or natural, if your ends stay crackin like pop rocks, it just might not be for you. #fullstop

Does it really matter? Even if it was made scientific fact tomorrow, that "natural hair was for everyone" it makes not one difference. People will relax, and others will go without. Make your choice and be happy. No need for debate.

If one is all about being natural and relaxer free, how come they are the same ones shaving their legs, bleaching their hair color, wearing makeup, eating processed and genetically modified foods, getting long acrylic nails done, whitening their teeth etc. Nature didn't intend for us to have silky smooth skin or eagle claw nails. We all modify our "natural" selves all the time. Hair is only one aspect. Get over it :ohwell:

:lachen: are you on level 10 at all times? Every single thread I've seen you on you've had the 'going hard' meter pushed all the way up. Just wondering

I like her posts. They add variety and a different point of view. Sometimes group think and being politically correct has a way of taking over this board.

Let's not forget morning breath and sweat :lachen:

Seriously... Thanks is not enough.

I do not buy the idea that natural hair is not for everyone because relaxers and hair straightening is a relatively new phenomenon in the history of black hair care. For centuries, black people "dealt" with their natural hair. They styled it in intricate styles utilizing beads, clay, and other ornaments to dress up their hair for various occasions. They wore cornrows, twists, braids and other hairstyles. There was no alternative (in other words, there were no relaxers) to wearing your natural hair texture.

It is only recently that people started to feel like they couldn't "handle" their natural hair. If relaxers no longer existed anymore, if flat irons and other straightening tools were never invented, then we would still be wearing our natural hair because it is the hair that we are naturally born with. I never get how something that grows from your scalp is not for you.

So what if the light bulb was not invented. According to your logic we would only rely on sunlight and the day would be done at sundown. My point is there have been sooo many advances in technology and many people choose to take advantage. Some people don't (ie. the Amish) and that's okay...neither one is right or wrong. There's nothing to "get" really. If you think it's wrong don't do it...

I just want to know why black people must want to wear their natural hair. Other than the "self hate-you want to conform" arguments, why MUST we wear our natural hair? Who said so and why? Are we trying to prove a point? Are we trying to be self righteous if one is natural and another is not? Are we trying to make a statement? Are black people now unable to make a choice in how their hair is done in terms of chemical proccessing or not.

I'm just thinking out loud, that's all. All this is just....I don't know. Divisive I guess.

Nothing is for everyone except air, water & death...

ETA: I'm tired of ppl assuming that people who make a conscious decision not to be natural are "scared" or insecure.

Just the other day I had a woman come up to me & compliment my hair. She assumed I was natural. I told her that I was actually texlaxed... She then goes on a tangent lecturing me about how I should go all natural & not be afraid of my hair texture :blah:

I stopped her asked her how long she'd been natural. She said 1 year. I said... "Awesome... I was actually natural for 8 years & I'm not at all afraid of my hair texture". That shut her right up.

For me... Being natural isn't some sort of declaration. It's just a choice. Back when I first went natural, I BC'd on a whim. I texlaxed because I wanted to. Tomorrow I could wake up & BC again. Who knows. It's just hair.

this natural v. relaxed hair thing is so ridiculous
i love all hair thats healthy esp. when its long...regardless of wether its relaxed natural texlaxed watevr...with that said i cannot stand it when naturals find out im relaxed and start preaching about how i have "self hate" and how i should accept my natural texture&stop being insecure..blahblehblah-freaking-blaaaah...
first of all youve been natural for 2wks, ive only been relaxed for 2yrs so i dont really think i have a problem accepting my natural texture.i know my texture[4a in the back,3c in the middle&front] and i know what products work for my natural hair[beyond the zone noodlehead, mane&tail,i hated KCCC..],you my friend just discovered your natural hair 2weeks ago if anything maybe i should give you advice.
second of all just because im relaxed doesnt mean im insecure.I was natural at the time when pretty much nobody was natural and people would make fun of my hair all the time saying how nappy it was and how i needed a perm and how my hair isnt the "good" kind therefore i shouldnt be natural.so trust me i dont think im insecure at all.

All the natural ladies i see on this board have beauuutiful hair however in real life[esp.at school] the naturals i see dont even compare to the ladies on the board most of them have dry thirsty twa's thats just helplessly screaming "DEEP CONDITION!"....and i could also say the same thing for the relaxed heads i see in real life also

the point is its just freaaking hair.like seriously whether its relaxed or natural...its juuust hair.some of you people are more concerned about hair then you are about your own health to the point where some would rather not exercise because they dont want to sweat&mess up their hair.oh trust, some of yall will set aside time to do your hair but wont even set aside time to workout.and then you go on the health forum and complain about how you gained 20lbs this year and how you needa start incoorporating a "healthy body journey" along with your "healthy hair journey"....ahhh crap i think im rambling a bit..i got a little off topic...dont mind me...carry on lol

"Natural hair is not for everyone" is just worded funny, sounds wrong, and I disagree with that statement with the way I interpret it. If it was worded like "not everyone chooses to remain natural" I 100% agree with that statement and take no issue with it (nor do I with people getting relaxers).

For the record, I don't mind relaxed/straighten hair either. It just works my nerves when people say is like..."well, I know I'm natural but it's not for everyone." What the **** are you talking about? It doesn't take specialized training or skills to be natural. Just let it grow and leave it alone. There are 60 thousand styles, lengths, textures under the sun even if you like straight hair.

And I say relaxers aren't necessary *for me* because I still had to rollerset, blow dry/ flat iron, etc to get my hair straight and I still had to worry about frizz when I was relaxed. Maybe that's not the case for others though. IDK.

Fun fact: The vlogger's name is Sunshine and she runs a pretty successful forum (Natural Sunshine). Her video is a reponse to a blog post that a member posted on the forum (I'm a member). That's where the title came from. It's supposed to reference that blog - not necessarily her words. She was giving her opinion about the subject. She's been natural for a while, I think she just went to a fade. (Not sure.)

Just wanted to throw that out there. And that's all I have to say about that right thur. My "Thanks" button is doing the rest. :yep:

Agreed. I think the wording "Not everyone has to want to be natural" is even better :yep:

I'm about to give you a backhanded compliment.

Your straightened hair looks nice (full/thick, nice length)

But your natural hair (the way it grew out of your head without the chemicals) was the biz-NASS and runs circles around your hair now (yes, i've seen pics).

I say all that to say that it has been my observation and humble opinion that black women simply tend to look better with highly textured hair. I think many black women are beginning to see that and are moving away from the straight looks that aren't characteristic of their hair anyway. I don't think wearing one's own hair the way it grows out of your head has lots to do with being militant or self-righteous. To assume so speaks volumes about how we are conditioned to prefer straight hair and in turn find it odd (or militant or self righteous, or fetish-ish) when folks actually like and prefer the look of their own kinky hair. There always has to be some ulterior motive as to why blacks prefer and wear their textured hair, like something must be wrong or we must hold an extreme mindset for us to prefer the hair the way it grows out of our own heads.
