Natural hair is not for everyone....

Only beef I have with her is her stupid backhanded comment about natural women are confident...Therefore women who relax are not... Smh.
I took that completely differently. She referred directly to situations where people think that they have to meet certain criteria like being "pretty", or a having "nice-shaped head" or well-defined curls in order to go natural. She says quite specifically that a woman with those thought patterns maybe should not go natural. Also, women may have to face resistance from loved ones about the choice to go natural. I didn't hear anything stated implicitly or explicitly that relaxed women lack confidence. Of course, YMMV.

Why does your nap have to be nappy? Why couldn't it be a "natural nap" or a "kinky nap"?

Lmaoooo! :lachen: :lachen:

Let her take her "Not subconsciously trying to be white" nap girl. Power to the people.

wow...I just read this entire thread! I hate y'all! Smnh (the n stands for nappy!) :lachen:
anywhoo...I'm gonna get some cocktail shrimp and when I come back I better see some more fireworks flying!

Saying natural hair is not for everyone is like saying someone's skin, eye, hair color, lips, eyes or nose shape/size is not for them. Hair texture, like those other traits are things people are born with and cannot control, so it makes no sense to say that someone's natural characteristics are not for them.

Aaaah. I see. Now I understand that some people are taking this literally. I thought "Not for everybody" or "not for everyone" was a figure of speech. I never took it to mean something literally can't happen for everybody. I take it to mean a particular thing or activity is not something that everybody has to partake or participate in... At least that's how this figure of speech is usually used.

wow.. some of you are very extra. Anywho, The video made was her opinion and she is entitled to that. All the name calling and put downs were uncalled for. Maybe if Black people learned to "RESPECT" each other views and differences we would get along better. If someone make a statement and it bothers you that much than you need to take a look at yourself and figure out why. The reason why these threads turn out this way is because some women here debate with emotion instead of logic. Ad-hominems and deflecting. IMO the woman made some good points but I didn't agree with everything she stated. I took it for what it was worth. At the end of the day its your hair and you don't OWE anyone an explanation for it, relaxed or natural...

This is a very novel concept. Us learning to agree to disagree. While it's been suggested many times, for some reason each person feels like she (or he) needs to be heard, and the way most feel the need to be heard is not by listening to a POV that differs from yours, speaking your opposing view point, and then walking in opposite direction. Instead it is "accomplished" by seeing who can bark the loudest. I quoted accomplished because when we look at it, nothing ever really gets accomplished at the end of the day.

I've had a few giggles, but at the end of the day I take it all with a grain of salt because there's been a fine mess made of this thread. Oh well.

Thats how I took it as well. It kind of reminds me of a FB post a girl made a while back. She had just done the BC, and was being all extra and said "Everyone can't be natural" and when people went in on her, she was saying that certain peoples natural texture wasn't "nice" enough to rock naturally. Smh. I really think she meant this in a sense of going back to natural, because everyone has had natural hair at some point. Maybe she should change the title to make it clear, cause people really like to take certain things to the head. I don't agree with hardly anything she said. Some of the people I know who went natural weren't super confident, they just got tired of struggling with the relaxer.

this is the song that doesnt eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeend

Empressri, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways

:2inlove:

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height

My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight

For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.

I love thee to the level of everyday's

Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.

I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;

I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.

I love thee with the passion put to use

In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.

I love thee with a love I seemed to lose

With my lost saints, - I love thee with the breath,

Smiles, tears, of all my life! - and, if God choose,

I shall but love thee better after death.

:deadhorse:

Honey. They are anorexic. That's my biggest fear. An anorexic ponytail. Smh. A little part of me dies inside every time I see a girl with APL hair...But it is nothing but 6 measly strands in a ponytail holder. Like...How long did you leave the relaxer on for honey?

I like you.....you are so passionate in all that you say no matter what thread you're in. You stick to your beliefs and don't sugar-coat or act "prudish" toward anything. You're my new LHCF friend!

Oh? So all girls who are natural are confident? H* please. See this is the kind of bs that just irritates me. This is why there is so much conflict between naturals and relaxed heads. There really shouldn't be. Don't say stuff like "Oh it takes confidence and balls to go natural" And then she goes on to say going natural takes the time to try new methods and products... I do that as a relaxed head just as well... Talking about you have to be prepared for the un expected....I'm sorry but when I switch relaxers I gotta be prepared for the unexpected just as well. You never know wtf that new brand is going to do to your new growth.

"A lot of us we make going natural look easy. We make it look good."

Um. I'm sorry. But outside of youtube and LHCF the natural heads I see on a daily basis are not as stylish as my LHCF divas. Nope. Nope. No they are not. This is what irritates me. Someone with barely neck length choppy natural hair coming up to me and my healthy APL relaxed hair telling me what I need to do. No what you need to do is join a hair forum. I am so over it.

Why is she talking about "Not fit to be on the front lines" ....I did not know natural hair vs. relaxed hair was World War Three.

"Some people need to join us ten years from now after we've already paved the way for them." Is this chicken head serious? Wtf? Did she just BC like 4 months ago? And now she is some expert or advocate. Walking around like she is LongHairDontCare2011 when in reality she is just Amber Rose with a tan. Girl BYE.

You don't know until you walk in the shoes of others. Some people re not confident naturals. Some you would never know are natural because they hide their hair. I think she makes a load of sense. Been there and still am a natural person who is not confident. That woman did a second BC because she wanted to see what it was like to grow out a TWA. Sunshine really is trying to see things from the eyes of others. MAybe you should listen to her video and see what she was talking about.

How u wear your hair is up to u! I went natural because I wanted to. I'm not gonna judge anybody's decision on how they wear their hair because it is 'their hair'
